Harbaugh must resign this evening.

Either he put JJ in or didn’t veto it. Up 3, ball near midfield…let’s put in the freshman QB who fumbled it the last time he touched the ball. Great idea!

I have been a supporter of JJ getting more snaps in the past to see what he could do. I have expressed worry about Cade not making the big play. And I can't understand the decision to put him in the game there at all. Cade had thrown for over 300 yards up to that point. JJ had just fumbled. It was clear the moment was too big for him and he couldn't handle the rain. With the ball at midfield up 3 and a chance to end the game, ball security is the first priority. And he brings in JJ. Just a coaching disaster.

Cade was in the medical tent at the beginning of the drive, so...

You wanted JJ and you got him. It is funny how that is bad coaching now lol

One of the worst decisions I have ever witnessed. They put JJ in right after he fumbled. RIGHT AFTER HE FUMBLED.
IN THE 4th quarter up 3 with a chance to ice the game.
When your starting QB is having the game of his life and is great at ball security.
Yeah, let’s put the freshman in who just fumbled.

Our dudes deserve respect. They payed hard. 8 official reviews. Michigan 0.

This game is on the COACHES!! You can’t put JJ in that situation after he fumbled the series before…in the fucking rain.

Blame the terrible run D

Another case of bad timing. No problem with putting JJ in, but to do so in a critical part of the game with 7 minutes left and good field position and where a TD probably wins it, that’s just coaching malpractice. Really ruined a magnificent game by Cade.
To me if there is really a case to be made against Harbaugh it is the inexplicable bad game management with big games on the line. It is a bad habit.
October 30th, 2021 at 4:16 PM ^
It was an all-time coaching blunder. All of the people on this site clamoring for JJ to start should punch themselves in the face. You were wrong. He is not ready.
October 30th, 2021 at 5:24 PM ^
More than that, this resembles the Brady-Henson issue. It is a stretch to compare Cade with TB12 but he shows the same knack for playing his biggest game when the stakes are highest. Why interrupt the flow when he is about to bring you back?
I really feel badly for Cade. Forget about worrying about JJ transferring, I worry about keeping Cade.
Will the judgement of this coaching staff ever improve in critical situations, of will we always be the college football equivalent of the “agony of defeat” image when the ski jumper falls off the ramp?
It’s a valid question after so many near misses. At some point you have to ask if the 2015 punt at MSU, the 2016 Iowa collapse, the 2016 spot controversy, or any one of the other crazy losses is a function of bad luck and officiating or bad play calling and scheme. It is not just because games go down to the wire but because we allow them to get to that point in the first place. Have to put teams away so that we don’t get to that point because the football gods are clearly not on our side.
That said, I hope the team doesn’t go into the tank because we can still win the division and everything remains in front of us. But we need to find some gumption and some good judgment.

I heard Cade was in the medical tent getting worked on. JJ was the only option at that point.

If this is true then I retract my rant but I have seen nothing to confirm this. And if it is true, then it is just one more example of Michigan being snake bitten with bad luck.

Then retract and no need in adding to it with more takes. Just retract

Then you haven’t been paying attention
Of course, 99% of the people here haven’t.
October 30th, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
Heh, this is the exact same thing we used to say back in the Brady-Henson days.
If your #1 QB is playing well you don't disrupt his flow state just to put the other guy in.
I mean, duh.

JJ didn’t fumble because it was raining. It was a miscommunication between QB and RB. If he doesn’t fumble and his legs help us down the field while chewing up some clock the move look genius.
Players have to make plays. Kenneth Walker carried an otherwise average MSU team to a great win. We could not stop him.
The Michigan coaches called an excellent game. We outgained them. We were better on third down. We didn’t allow a sack while living in their backfield. We had one negative yardage play all day. And their perceived advantage through the air against our secondary did not materialize. That is a recipe for a win. The coaches were ready. Some costly player errors at inopportune times. And the refs blowing their usual portion.
October 30th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Too many excuses. Does it sound logical to take out your starting QB who he been playing the game of his life with 7 minutes to go, great field position, and the chance to seal the game with possible TD when MSU had not been stopping his passing the entire game? Any reasonable person would answer no. It’s one thing if Cade had been struggling, but this was not the case. And to be clear, this is in no way on JJ. He did what the coaches asked of him and mistakes happen, but boy oh boy, they picked a hell of a scenario to make that call. I’m not calling for anyone to be fired, but if you want to know why Michigan can’t take the next step toward the elite, that is why.

We are being impatient! Harbaugh hasn't had the time necessary to implement his plan. Let's give him year 8 and we may see an uptick.

Apparently, Cade was in the injury tent when JJ went in at the point where he fumbled
October 31st, 2021 at 2:46 PM ^
McNamara was out because of an injury. This should be in the op post.
