Friday Night Drinking Thread
Time to relax and get ready for a big basketball weekend. What’s in your glass tonight my friends? I’m trying some Jefferson Ocean Bourbon Aged at Sea (Voyage 23). I found it at Costco for $65 tonight, read great reviews and that it’s hard to find. It leans towards an Islay Scotch with a bit of saltiness and carmal mixed in. I highly recommend.
box Kirkland Pinot Grigio and Better Made pretzel rods (way better than Rold Gold since there's a lot more salt)
Soooo many Yuenglings
March 26th, 2021 at 10:13 PM ^
Haven't had a Yuengling in about a year. Definitely picking some up next week on my way to Texas. And then again on the way back home.?
Cheers!!
baby back ribs on the grill. bills paid. barn chores done. strong likelihood of some red pop in a coffee cup close to me. very close by.
plowing up a field tomorrow to get it ready to re-plant for better pasture. high school hoops playoffs continue. spring peepers have started up this week. i love those little guys.

Putting my 11 yo to bed. Getting some snuggles. It’s late in the game as he won’t want daddy snuggles much longer. My little boy is getting big and I imagine for the rest of my life I will be so happy to remember he wanted me to be there when he went to sleep. If you have kids, it goes fast. Enjoy it while you can.

we only have seven kids, and next month the 5 youngest will be teenagers. yeah, those years go fast and you don't get them back. savor them.
Killing off a bottle of Blanton's. Going to have a finished High West Double Rye right after courtesy of another poster.
How’s the HW Double?
March 26th, 2021 at 10:06 PM ^
A very reliable source told me it is very good......
March 26th, 2021 at 10:07 PM ^
I'll let you know shortly.
[Update] it's better than I expected. I have a regular bottle of high west double rye that I don't care for much because there's a chemical note in it that now I'm convinced was just a bad bottle. This one is aged in oloroso and it's delicious. That fruity honeyed sweet finish compliments the rye and really rounds it out.
I just noticed, happy new avatar MGH.
Blanton's is some high quality stuff!

Thanks. I know a lot of people rip on blanton's but I suspect they just didn't get a bottle from a good barrel. I've had some very good bottles of it and enjoy the mash bill.
March 26th, 2021 at 10:59 PM ^
I’ve got one that was bottled in 2018. I haven’t opened it yet and saving it for the right time (hard to find lately ya know ?).
March 26th, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
I've only had one bottle of Blanton's and I really enjoyed it. It was a special treat to have as Blanton's is so hard to find in Michigan.
I can vouch for High West Double Rye. Good stuff.

I fell in love with rye’s when Angela Envy Rye first hit the shelves @ what 8 years ago or something. I was an accountant for a chain of liquor stores and had the opportunity to try a lot of stuff from the distributors.
Trying a new one today....not bad actual pretty good for 4.7%, but could only find it in a combo 12 pack.

Ardbeg, an oa
March 26th, 2021 at 10:20 PM ^
looks like someone might be a bit too much 'in their cups'. either that, or i need an interpreter.
March 27th, 2021 at 12:56 AM ^
You need an interpreter. Ardbeg is boss, bro.
March 26th, 2021 at 10:49 PM ^
Can you compare it to the uigaedail or corryvrekian? So many Ardbeg releases and don't know if the An Oa is worth it.
March 27th, 2021 at 12:59 AM ^
Ardbeg Uigaedail and Lagavulin 16 are two of my “go-tos”. I’m never disappointed with either of those.

Eagle Rare followed by a little ECBP C918. So good ?

Apple juice, cinnamon, Everclear, and a dash of my own tears.

Bell's No, Yeah
Bell's Oberon
Great Lakes Irish Ale
Blackrocks Coconut Brown
I like Brandon Johns emerging calmness and confidence....I think he's due for a big game on Sunday.
GO BLUE!!!
I'd react to Brandon having a big game the same way I would if someone offered me an Oberon:
Yes please, thank you very much!

Ha’Penny Rhubarb Gin. On the rocks. Delicious. Anyone put any money on Michigan covering Baylor tomorrow or am I dumb?

Old Forrester Rye and ginger ale on the rocks. Very delightful.

Ginger ale is such a good mixer for bourbon/rye
March 27th, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
My Dad, uncles, grandfather all drank whiskey and ginger ale. They called them high balls. Another favorite mixer was Squirt. I like to mix Squirt with Traverse City Cherry Bourbon in the summer. Very refreshing ?.

Cheboygan Blood Orange at Moose Jaw Junction.

Evan Williams tonight. Cheap, but quite good.
Probably pick up some good local stuff for the weekend. Cheers!!??

EW is plenty good enough for me. Especially mixed or just with a little club soda
I have tried to be discerning about bourbons (and other whiskeys), trying to pick out flavors and aromas, hints of fruits and woods and herbs etc. I find that I don't like to think that much while I'm drinking. All I care about is that it makes a tasty drink and I really don't want to ponder why.

A couple of Juicy at Petoskey Brewing.

Balcones Baby Blue for the hockey game, but so it goes.
Do take pleasure though in wisco getting bloodied by a bunch of beavers. Dominated in all periods. A majora upset!
Go beavers!
March 26th, 2021 at 11:16 PM ^
Balcones does a good job, haven't had their baby blue, just the rye and single malt whiskey. Been to the distillery a couple times. Nice little tasting room ?.
March 27th, 2021 at 10:10 AM ^
I am chilling a few Hopsessed from Petoskey for the weekend. Definitely not a session beer (9.2 ABV) unless I plan on getting plastered in the session.

Elysian Cyclops and Ommegang Three Philosophers with take home bbq. Cyclops kicks ass.

Sake tonight at a local sushi bar! Excellent food. Excellent drink. Very nice evening!
March 26th, 2021 at 11:40 PM ^
A lot. At Burt Lake my happy place. So bummed for the hockey team.

Sylvaner and Pinot Nero, both from the Alto-Adige. Dreaming of the Dolomites.
March 26th, 2021 at 11:42 PM ^
I caved to peer pressure and grabbed some Larceny and a bit of ice. It's my go to bourbon. Prefer it to bourbons that are a hell of a lot more expensive.
Sugar-free Canada Dry ginger ale.
Every foul call in the second half, in the game against LSU kept in the game.
Michigan should have won by 12. We’re gonna beat FSU by 10, mark my words.
