META: MGoBlog coup nightmare
I had a bizarre, pertinent nightmare the other day. I've been working on starting a blog and am having a hell of a time sorting out domain issues (I don't have any idea what I'm doing and am trying to learn on the fly.) One of the posts I have prepped for the launch gets into some of my challenges with mental health over the last couple years. In particular, I suffer from manic episodes. There's no telling what idiotic thing I might do during these spells.
Anyway, to the nightmare. I dreamed that I accidentally spent all of my lifesavings to somehow stage a coup and take ownership over the mgoblog.com domain. I awoke to dozens of angry emails, from my friends, parents, Seth, and Ace. The worst one was from Brian, who sent me a defeated email that just said, "Why, man?"
I opened up the message board to thread upon thread discussing the fallout. The top post was stickied by rob f and called "Getting to know our new overlord." You all had gone through my all comment history, ruthlessly picking apart every dumb ass thing I've said on this blog. The cunning, rare insults bore through my soul. I scrambled to reverse my actions. But when I reached out to the Drupal support chat, the only response was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I don't remember how the nightmare ended. All I know is that I grabbed my phone as soon as I woke up to check MGoBlog and make sure that crisis was averted. Then, I went to my blog site to see if my problems there had magically resolved. Alas, no luck.
Has anyone else had a MGoBlog-themed dream or nightmare in the past?

Besides this one? No.

Keep drinking and go back to bed.

He should definitely drink less before bed.

I had a weird dream that some guy named Dennis wanted us to all go camping together this one time. Then, when we got to the camp site, WD was there in an Adidas brand hockey mask and slowly killed us all one by one over the course of the weekend.

Is Dennis, Jason's brother?
February 10th, 2021 at 3:50 PM ^
Just keep telling yourself it was not a coup but a rowdy tailgate and you won't feel like a traitor when you keep coming back here.

Your nightmare is pretty wild. Having just watched the video of January 6th events, a coup seems all too possible. Methinks you might be spending too much time at mgoblog, something I am guilty of. (Hope I never have this kind of nightmare.)

There is nothing more boring than other people's dreams.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:13 PM ^
This is the exact kind of comment that hurt the most. But, I'd challenge you that hearing about other people's fantasy football teams is worse.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
Having to spend at least one morning a week listening to my wife describe a dream she can't quite remember and can't quite put into a linear narrative, can confirm I would rather hear people rapturously describe how Deshaun Watson gets Rushing AND passing yards all day long over another damn dream story. At least with fantasy football I know what the hell they're talking about and can predict when it'll be over.
February 10th, 2021 at 8:31 PM ^
Let me know when your wife gets mad at you because you were in the dream she couldn't remember, but she knows enough that you did something wrong.
February 10th, 2021 at 10:18 PM ^
+1
Been there, man. Mrs. Sleepy acknowledges that she's being completely irrational when this happens... but is still kinda pissed at real me for stuff dream me did.
February 10th, 2021 at 5:00 PM ^
Nope....Who do you have winning your bracket this year? Who's in your elite 8? Mine is......Wait, you don't fill out a bracket? I have 7. I usually do about 10, but my friends wussed out this year. I love brackets. Brackets, brackets, brackets.......

I used to know this guy who lived a very dull, loner existence, and he used to get up very early in the summer to play golf at a shitty local muni course. He would then come in to work and proceed to describe his round, shot-by-shot, in minute detail on a course I had never played.
Now that is one boring mo-fo.
February 10th, 2021 at 7:41 PM ^
You obviously haven't heard about MY fantasy team. You have two hours? Let me tell you about it...

True, until I reached this part:
I opened up the message board to thread upon thread discussing the fallout. The top post was stickied by rob f and called "Getting to know our new overlord."
Tell me more...

I had the same dream...
You were appointed MGoLegate and proceeded to order those here using animals as avatars to be crucified.
While nailed to the cross I sang "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" but forgot most of the lyrics.
MeanJoe07 was there too, he didn't sing, but did scream expletives at John O'Neill who was dressed as a centurion.
Xtramelanin was there herding some cats nearby assisted by 4 shepherd goats. And wouldn't you know it...the cats went where he wanted them to go.
The East German Judge was there wearing a mini skirt.
Evenyoubrutus was running away from 5 or 6 Roman senators armed with pineapples.
WD was arrested for poor fashion sense. MGoHillBilly offered to represent WD, but he was arrested too because he and his wife both got DNA profiles done at ancestry.com.
It was horrid.
February 11th, 2021 at 6:16 AM ^
rgard, as far as you know that was only a dream.....
February 11th, 2021 at 7:49 AM ^
:-) If anybody can herd cats, it's you!
February 11th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
Actually, the natural herder in our house was quite a surprise: my bird dog. She is absolutely nails at herding cattle or sheep when needed. I don’t know how she knows how to do it, but whenever I’ve asked her she has performed like a champ.
February 11th, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
She's obviously the result of a cross-breeding experiment they've been conducting in Cologne. The result is the German Shepbird Dog.
February 12th, 2021 at 4:47 AM ^
close. she is a secret genetically modified labrador livestock retriever.

I heard that O'Neill was hired as Northwestern's DC and thought that he'd look funny on the sidelines in his referee garb, then found out that it was Jim O'Neill and not John O'Neill.
. . . nevermind.

I for one find my wife's dreams quite enjoyable and usually end with me getting laid. Of course, that was all in her dreams and not reality....

Whatever you do, make sure your comment system loads automatically and not have to refresh.
Look into what SBNation does like Maize n Brew...not the stupid one that Pride of Detroit uses now that is similar but you keep having to load new comments and is a pain in the ass and I hardly go there anymore because of it.
Good luck!

And maybe have an edit button for the OP
February 10th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
That's a lot of detail for a dream.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
If you're working on a blog, have you been doing a lot of writing? Writing tends to give me weird dreams.
Also if I'm not mistaken anti malarial drugs like hydroxychloriquine can cause bizarre vivid dreams. Are you taking anything? Not that it's any of my business.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:25 PM ^
I thought I read somewhere that hydroxychloriquine encourages you to drink bleach and lysol. It's a gateway drug.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
I'm not taking hydroxychloriquine, but I am taking a nightly antipsychotic that might be doubling as a psychedelic.

5-HTP works for me when the gears in my head won't stop turning and my mind won't shut off.
I don't take it as a day-to-day maintenance supplement... only when I need it (which is generally around super stressful times).
February 10th, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
I was given anti-malaria pills when I shipped off to Iraq but only took a few. Nearly 18 years later I still vividly remember dreaming about having super powers but not enough money in my bank account to use them. After talking to others and realizing my dream was the least nightmarish I stopped taking them.
February 10th, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
I took a course of Chantix to quit smoking two different times, about 10 years apart. The most vivid dreams I can ever remember. To the point of nearly being lucid dreaming.
Can't recommend it enough. Both to quit smoking and for how much fun it was.
February 10th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Did you ever try taking it in the morning before eating?
Do not recommend.
Other than that its worked for me 3 different times to quit smoking. (I was soft and always eventually went back), but its been nearly 3 years since my last drag so hopefully I've kicked it for good.
February 10th, 2021 at 7:55 PM ^
Yep, crazy dreams on Chantix. Some people can get nightmares, but I quite enjoyed my dreams on it.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:51 PM ^
I took that coming back from deployment for a week and can vouch for crazy ass dreams. Nicotine patches do it too.
February 10th, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
Unisom gives me hallucinations. I’m too lazy of a person to care though. So I usually just shrug and go back to sleep.
February 11th, 2021 at 5:48 AM ^
Magic rooms can also give you bizarre nightmares.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:46 PM ^
That's a really crappy dream.
I'd prime the pump by watching some porn at bedtime, myself.
February 10th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
.....Ok.
