In a miracle of miracles, MSU finally fell out of the top 25. 7 teams ranked ahead of them in receiving votes, including Rutgers, who they destroyed this week

Do we need to observe a moment of silence for the death of the Sparty basketball program? NOT!!!!
January 11th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
Serious question... Why do these kids out of high school still think Izzo is some coaching genius?
Give me Juwan Howard and the Michigan program any day of the week.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
He gets credit for getting kids to buy in but be tougher than everyone is not always going to work and has a shelf life.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
I always assumed it was because they were naive and had stupid handlers.
January 11th, 2021 at 1:08 PM ^
Look, I don't like the way Izzo has handled some bad off-the-court stuff and I don't like the way he treats players during games. But you can't argue with his coaching success. They've been in the tournament for like 23 straight seasons or something crazy and he's hung a ton of banners. Go ahead and hate him for all the right reasons - but "success" is not one of them.
January 11th, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
But his players haven't really succeeded at the next level. I understand that his job is to win for MSU but as a player I would be expecting him to prepare me and improve me for the NBA.
January 11th, 2021 at 1:19 PM ^
I'm talking about how he's misused players like Jackson and how he encourages players like Bridges to stick around when they should have gone pro. The opportunity cost for these players is so incredibly high.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:58 PM ^
Agreed. There is no doubt that he intentionally throttled some players for his own self interest. That in itself makes him a POS in my opinion.
January 11th, 2021 at 1:21 PM ^
I get it. But Jim Harbaugh used to be a good coach too. There is a huge difference between historical success and recent success.
January 11th, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
No argument from me about the football staff somehow being able to identify, pull in, and misuse football talent
January 11th, 2021 at 3:13 PM ^
The most perplexing part of his formula is how he gets high 4 and 5 stars to come to MSU, after they see the last crop of high 4 and 5 stars underperform their rankings, stick around for 5 years with a significant amount of time spent backing up weird guys who walked on, and not getting drafted.
I scratched my head at this, while Beilein's teams were sweating out the departure of less heralded recruits who were expected to go as lottery picks or early in the first round.

Do we need to observe a moment of silence for the death of the Sparty basketball program?
I think we all know what happens next...

Golly, ya hate to see it........LOL
January 11th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
Just keep winning as they say.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
No real issue with any of the teams ahead of us. Kansas has two losses, both to top 4 teams (even though the Texas was a blowout). They have wins over WV, Creighton, Texas Tech, Oklahoma. If we come out of this week with a pair of top 25 wins, we should probably approach the top 5.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
Agreed---winning takes care of everything. The back half of our schedule is road-heavy which will be tough in this conference. With 15 games to go, you have to figure a 10-5, 11-4 finish gets us to at minimum at #2 seed if not higher.
Go blue....can't wait to see how this team plays it out.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:44 PM ^
With 15 games to go
Assuming the game @PSU gets rescheduled. I don't think there is any news on that yet, though. There are currently 14 scheduled games (7 road, 7 home).
January 11th, 2021 at 12:40 PM ^
All those who complained about early rankings were RIGHT!
If only we'd started at 15 or so, by now we'd be 10 slots higher. So . . . ranked -3?
January 11th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Pretty fun to look back on the threads that questioned the Juwan hire. Man, the guy can coach and recruit and lead. Give the guy a 5 year extension.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
What's so awesome is that everyone knew he was gonna be able to recruit, but his coaching is maybe even better.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:59 PM ^
You make a good point. We need to keep coach Howard around a long as possible. Take some of the savings from Harbaughs pay cut, and transfer them into a new deal for Howard!!!
January 11th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Yep, follow Teddy KGB's directive: Pay that mi-an his mah-nee.
January 11th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
Just win baby!

#5 in Coaches poll. About right - the coaches know
January 11th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
Think the way we took down Minnesota - a complete thrashing - was a huge eye opener for any remaining skeptics regarding the depth of Michigan's team on both ends of the floor. A convincing win against the Badgers would further solidify the growing consensus that we may have the best team in the BIG.
Go Blue!!!
January 11th, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
Food for thought, of the six teams ranked above us, the only one we haven't beaten in our most recent game was Iowa, though we did beat them last year. Kansas, Gonzaga, Texas, and Villanova all lost their most recent match up to Michigan. And if you wanna include Creighton who's right behind us, we've beaten them most recently too.
(from the research I've done, we've never played Baylor. Correct me if I'm wrong though)

Calipari helped Juwan with Martelli, and openly saying how good of hire it was, and how he will help him however he can, yet now Kentucky is nowhere to be found, which is a shame. I've always liked him and wanted him to coach here.
What isn't a shame is Izzo and MSU are also nowhere to be found... and gotta think Izzo will retire soon when they fall too far behind.
Duke at 19.
There might be a changing of the guard this upcoming decade... with Gonzaga and Michigan among the new big boys.
January 11th, 2021 at 2:47 PM ^
Wait...do you mean you always wanted Calipari to coach here or Juwan? I assume Juwan because I would not want Calipari anywhere near Michigan's program.
January 11th, 2021 at 1:39 PM ^
Keep winning boyz!!!!! This is a fun team to watch.
January 11th, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
Being able to pound the paint, defend and rebound has us looking real good. Win tomorrow and we get some separation in the standings.

Is Dicky V on the broadcast team? I wonder what the echo will sound like in Crysler
