There are...
...days until Dick Kempthorn (FB 1947-1948) sees Michigan break new ground in 2019!

Go Blue.
Enjoy highlights from across the college football landscape during #38's Junior season:
The Michigan highlights start at about the 2:40 mark, featuring a couple great plays by Bump Elliott, including a punt return TD.
That Wikipedia article on Dick Kempthorn is pretty enlightening, too. Besides being named Michigan's MVP in 1949, he was also a Korean War hero and successful businessman. Kempthorn passed away in February of this year. RIP
Good stuff, OP!
Bump was the Iowa AD in 1973 when that turncoat Burt Smith, a UM grad but the MSU AD voted to send OSU to the Rose Bowl after the 10-10 tie where Denny Franklin broke his collarbone.
I was in my freshman year at UM at the time. I am still outraged.
And rightly so my friend. That vote was a travesty. Bo was pissed and took it out on the rest of the conference for the next 16 seasons.
More throwback. Very cool.
I wish my name was Dick Kempthorn
I would prefer it to be Kemp Dickthorn.
As I began reading the wikipedia piece, I realized that I read it previously. Wonderful post in February upon Dick Kempthorn's death.
JWG,
After this years "There Are"s, would you be willing/able to post a list of all of the players noted and their numbers? There are at least a few who I would like to read again and remember.
Thanks again.
Absolutely! Just remind me to do it when it’s all over.
In the mean time, you can always click on the “there are...” tag at the bottom of the OP and go back in “there are...” time to your heart’s content.
I was lucky enough to have met and spoken to Mr. Kempthorn a few times. He was a die hard Michigan supporter until his death and was a kind and generous man. Thanks for including him.
