UM Football Analyst position now open
Looks like there is still a position to fill. Thought I'd post, as there certainly seem to be an abundance of qualified candidates.
Posting here.
Only two requirements: one is a Bachelor's degree, and the other ... isn't that.
Upvotes for the best nomination to fill the spot!
Will there be a Hello post?

Hello: timtebro

Does tweeting at recruits count as, " experience assisting with the management of the service and support functions of a Division I football program"??
*edit* DON'T TWEET AT RECRUITS
January 18th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
If course it does. Why wouldn't it?
January 18th, 2019 at 8:58 AM ^
That job sounds like a pain in the ass.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:04 AM ^
It really does. How would you like your evaluation criteria to include, "Evaluates how student athletes are living and ensures they make the right lifestyle choices?"
Edit: For instance, every time that a football player makes "a poor lifestyle choice" does this poor sap bear the brunt of the athletic department wrath? And what counts as a "poor lifestyle choice?" Selling sneakers online?
I'm reminded of one of my wife's friends from our early parenting days who was constantly encouraging her child to "make another choice." Riley* could be whacking my child with a dumptruck, and while I was rushing to remove my child, she was cheering, "Make another choice, Riley*! Make another choice!"
*May or may not be real name.
Edit 2: I can just see the poor analyst encouraging an OL at a party: "Don't crumple that bigmouth, Behemoth! Make another choice! Make another ... oh shit."

Behemoth*
*(May or may not be real name)
January 18th, 2019 at 10:01 AM ^
I have a 14 year old and an 11 year old, I feel monitoring lifestyle choices is in my wheelhouse.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:07 AM ^
+1 awesome. It reminded me of some extended feckless parenting I saw years ago.
"Brandon" (real name) was constantly being asked to "cooperate" by his clueless upper-middle-class mom who would never consider using a 2 x 4 on him. "Brandon, please cooperate! Brandon ... Brandon!!!"
Last I knew, Brandon grew up to be a high-maintenance underachieving pain in the ass

"It reminded me of some extended feckless parenting I saw years ago."
My wife works as a preschool teacher—she has to deal with the consequences of feckless parenting every day. Most of the parents are well-educated and compensated professionals but they can be as clueless about raising kids as anybody.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:36 AM ^
The older I get, the more I realize that nobody knows what the fuck they're doing.
January 18th, 2019 at 11:19 AM ^
Everyone wants to be "friends" with their children instead of being their parent. One of my favorite lines from an average movie.
"Listen kid, I am not your best friend, that is your mother's racket. I am your father, I tell you when you screw up."
January 18th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^
I'm not just talking about parenting, nobody knows what the fuck they're doing in most situations.
And you can be a good parent while still being friends with your kids.
January 18th, 2019 at 11:23 AM ^
The good thing is that the young are too ignorant to realize you don't know what you're doing either. So long as you act like you do, you're good.
I remember having a discussion with a young man who brought my 15 year old daughter home at 1am. The entire time I was lecturing him about how that is not an appropriate time & such I was marveling at how I had a lot of experience on his end of this conversation ("Yes sir") but this end was more about not laughing.
January 18th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
Oh my...just "Oh my!"
January 18th, 2019 at 8:59 AM ^
Well shit. I don't have that other thing.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:00 AM ^
That pesky second required qualification is preventing me from applying...
"Must possess prior experience assisting with the management of the service and support functions of a Division I football program."
I don't got that! Too bad, "Spent countless hours on MGoBlog instead of working" isn't a qualification...
January 18th, 2019 at 10:06 AM ^
I have never let something like that stop me from applying for a job, and I have probably only met about 50% of the requirements for any position I have interviewed for.
Further, now that I am in a hiring position, I have found that most of the time the "requirements" are typically written for what the perfect candidate would be and not what the person who is hired must have.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:44 AM ^
^^^^THIS!! Knowing that the requirements are what they want from the perfect candidate and they will never get a perfect candidate is almost a life skill in and of itself.
Don't let the "requirements" stop you from applying. Now, if they want you to spend hours providing something (writing sample, code, artwork, etc), well, that is different. But if all you have to do apply is submit a resume and a cover letter, you have to go for it.

By this criterion, if you-know-who can be President, then any one of us can do this job.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:00 AM ^
Hmmmm I wonder if this means McDaniels will be a full fledged assistant rather than an analyst. Which would in turn mean Pep is gone.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
Exactly what I was thinking.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:21 AM ^
Hopefully.
The downside could be Pep is staying and McDaniels has decided to leave. But I'm sure we'd be seeing smoke if that had happened.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:26 AM ^
Perhaps a dumb question but is there a limit on the number of analysts teams can have? I seem to remember as recently as last year that the ncaa was weighing restrictions but wasn't sure if that was implemented
January 18th, 2019 at 9:32 AM ^
No. For now - with every P5 team having palatial facilities and a multimillionaire HC - this a $1.5MM+ coordinators seem to be the only remaining arms races.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:33 AM ^
Not yet.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
This is more of an Administrative Assistant role. Something like David Piche holds right now. One of his main duties is to keep a watchful eye on players and help them understand the NCAA/Team rules, compliance, and team/Univ. of Michigan expectations.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:55 AM ^
Thanks, looks like "experience putting out major fires" can also substituted for the second requirement.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:29 AM ^
"You sendin' in The Wolf? Sheeeit. That's all you had to say."
January 18th, 2019 at 10:33 AM ^
Don’t think it’s necessarily related. Don’t forget the fact that analyst Ron Prince also left to be the head coach at Howard. So there’s already a spot open with or without McDaniels becoming the WRs coach.
January 18th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
Was thinking the same. I saw that McDaniels was tweeting about being on the road visiting recruits this week.
As far as I know he can only do that as a coach or as an “acting coach” while there are openings on the staff.
To me this means either he is a coach but unannounced (which would mean Pep is gone) OR that he was able to do this up to the exact point that the new DL hire became official.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:02 AM ^
Speculating...but could this mean one of two things?:
1. Pep gone, McDaniels promoted
2. Pep staying, McDaniels unhappy and gone
January 18th, 2019 at 9:04 AM ^
We need umbig11 for an update...?
January 18th, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
Well McDaniels was out on the recruiting trail as of yesterday and um Pep was not. If I had to guess, I’d say Pep will eventually find another job elsewhere and McDaniels will be the 10th assistant.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:06 AM ^
Wow, how do you know pep was not?
January 18th, 2019 at 10:37 AM ^
McDaniels was able to be out on the recruiting trail because Michigan hadn’t officially hired Shaun Nua yet. Meaning we werent fully staffed so McDaniels still held that unofficial interim role.
If McDaniels continues to recruit now that Nua’s hire is official, then THAT would point to another departure on the offensive staff.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:11 AM ^
He’s the analyst. He just hasn’t updated his Hello post!!!
January 18th, 2019 at 9:17 AM ^
Or Devin Bush Sr is leaving now that his son will be gone and he hasn’t been promoted yet.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:33 AM ^
Yeah I'm expecting this to he announced soon. Surprised a small Florida school has not gambled on making him a full time coach yet.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:45 AM ^
Nevermind I thought there was a limit on analysts, but I see that is not true, so this is not a zero sum situation.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
Is this one of those positions where the university is legally required to post the opening even though they already know who they are going to hire?
January 18th, 2019 at 9:34 AM ^
That's like 2/3 of job openings everywhere. There's a lot of "company policy says we have to interview at least 3 candidates...so we will... but start picking out your office decor now."
January 18th, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
7 day posting window :)
January 18th, 2019 at 9:18 AM ^
where's the vulgar koala? i'll volunteer to proofread his resume
January 18th, 2019 at 9:21 AM ^
There isn't much Analysis involved in this position, seems like a glorified babysitter.
January 18th, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
Well, there is the whole "Maintain and update football computer database." thing.
I was struck by the "Ensure Head Coach adheres to offensive game plan" requirement, though.
er, /s

UMBig11 for the job
or Mineral King
Maizen is over qualified
January 18th, 2019 at 9:28 AM ^
Maizen is only interested in the Recruiting Coordinator job. That way he can ensure no 3* or lower recruits.
January 18th, 2019 at 10:01 AM ^
Could you imagine 4 man recruiting classes because there was no one else Maizen felt was worthy?
