OT: Malik McDowell waived by the Seahawks
Take your pick: Would Michigan have molded him into a better young man with a brighter future had he signed with us, or did we dodge a bullet by missing on him?
I think we dodged a bullet. Sorry mom, you knew he was gonna get himself in trouble. But I think he would have found it here too, even if not as badly.
I think we would have changed his life for the better. His mother definitely seemed on board and would have supported the coaches and their high expectations of him as a young man.
Mattison would have turned him into a better player as well so he struck out on 2 fronts going to Sparty land.
Well, if I had to pick, then I would say we dodged a bullet.
From the initial recruitment onwards, there were things about McDowell that seemed like they would not work out well at Michigan, and indeed, they didn't seem to work quite as well at MSU as they would have liked......or indeed in the NFL.

I mean, he always seemed like a bit of a head case even in HS, so I guess you could say Michigan dodged a bullet. And the ATV accident and the arrest video just showed the pattern you sort of heard about at MSU, that he was difficult to reach and didn't really care what others had to say. So whatever. I don't wish anyone to not be able to pursue their dreams just because they aren't particularly genial, but at the same time he's not the most sympathetic figure.
Football just delayed the path to full on gangbanger. We will surely be reading his name in the papers again. I have very little confidence is his decision making ability.
