OT - 5 Star DT Eddie Vanderdoes Not Going to ND
He will take his talents to UCLA instead. This was a weird recruitment overall. Initial commitment was to USC, then De-Commit and surprisingly picked ND over UCLA and Alabama. Now this.

GOOD! Good luck young man
I'd like to see some funny red faced Kelly .gif come up at some point.
I'd find that pretty interesting if he leaves Notre Dame because of an academic issue but enrolls in UCLA instead. Isn't UCLA just as tough, if not tougher than Notre Dame in terms of its academic standards?
I think that may be the PR spin going on. About a week-2 weeks ago he flat out said he simply didnt want to go to ND anymore. Case of cold feet if you will.
I believe he is actually a fairly accomplished student by football student-athlete standards. I don't think there's a lot of weight to that rumor, and believe it's more a combination of people throwing out a possibility for why he's not going to ND to try to understand, people throwing out the possibility and seeing what sticks, and people trying to make him look bad.
Yes, but that doesn't mean they have the same admissions standards for athletes. Remember Anthony Standifer couldn't get in to ND or Michigan even though he met NCAA requirements.I believe they require one more math class than the minimum.
Not sure if the OP is getting that from old information, but the rumored academic issue was reported to be false. If this was an academic issue ND would not admitted him and the LOI would be voided. ND wanted him.
My info was from an insider tweet about a problem with a High School class and was outdated. It looks like Eddie just had a change of heart.
Doubt it. You can have any chick you want as a football player at ND, even if she doesn't really exist.
she is going to die and leave you all weepy.
You should have titled: 5 Star DT Eddie Vanderdoesn't go to ND...
You are correct, this was an opportunity missed.
Automatic upvote from me, someone should assemble a team from ND Scheudenfreud.
I think that, in the last year or so, that would make for at least four players that had five stars from at least one of the services that committed to ND and ended up leaving. I think Davonte Neal, Gunner Kiel and Aaron Lynch would be on that list anyway, as well as Chris Martin. They've lost about 1 in 5 four-stars from the last few classes as well, which is also signifiant for them.
The rumor has been floating around for a while now... Seeing as it's Notre Dame, I'm glad in this case where there was smoke there is now (tire) fire.
btw... for the connoisseurs of Irish 'freude.

Oh splendid. I don't even have to go looking for it. You're the best. Thanks.
There were several people who thought he would commit to UCLA before he committed to Notre Dame. And after he de-committed from USC.
What the hell. Do people just downvote you for shits and giggles?
Yes, they do. It happens with pretty much every post.
BRING THE REAL POINTS BACK!!!!
Woo! Makes the 2014 ND game a mite easier...
Hm. RT @chitribhamilton #NotreDame spokesman says school will not release Eddie Vanderdoes from letter of intent. School will comment today
— Pat Forde (@YahooForde) June 4, 2013
Yikes. I'm guessing Eddie Vanderdoesn't like that response at all.
Vanderdoes was not released from his LOI, and therefore, he is losing a year of eligibility. He will be forced to sit out the 2013 season and will then have 3 years of eligibility remaining in a 4 year period. He must have really wanted out of ND.
From ESPN's Joe Schad:
"Vanderdoes' father, also Eddie, said Notre Dame did not release Vanderdoes from his binding National Letter of Intent.
Because of this, Vanderdoes' father said his son will be penalized one year of playing eligibility. He can take a scholarship and practice this season, but he must redshirt and will be eligible to play only three years of college football in a four-year period."
what a d-bag move by Notre Dame... rivals d-baggery of Derek Dooley...
This is actually one move I agree with ND on. Otherwise a LOI is worthless. The Dooley thing was especially douchy because there was an illness in the family. AFAIK, there isn't such an issue with Vanderdoes.
maybe you're right, I just don't like reading about kids losing a year of eligibility over a change of heart... but I can see how it would open the door for everyone to start reneging on signed LOI
Actually, if you have doubts about your choice, you can just pay separate deposits (UM's is currently $200, ND's is $500 and UCLA's is $100), which is not a terrible route to take.
Down voting Magnus is on my mgobucketlist
Looks like SOMEONE'S not telling the truth...
I wouldn't trust Brian Kelly any farther than I could throw Eddie Vanderdoes.
Thats too bad. I love me some ND football.

...I'd like to know the REAL stories behind their recruitments. Toss Gunner Kiel and that Zeke Pike kid in as 2 other stories I wouldn't mind getting the 30 for 30 on. Lastly, and sorry Michigan fans...Ronald Johnson.
This is a Michigan blog.
Actually it's not. I saw this worthless information on my Twitter feed and immediately thought, "Some dude is going to post this on MGoBlog, as if it's relevant" and sure enough, it happened. It doesn't matter what happens to Notre Dame recruits. We should not care. This goes for MSU and Ohio news, too. I'm so sick of seeing copious amounts of threads about ND, MSU, and Ohio. Michigan fans need to stop obsessing over their business.
THIS IS A MICHIGAN BLOG.
Our three biggest rivals are the teams I noted. What is your point?
Agreed. I've started to have go to 11W for Michigan content. Holy shit, do they have a lot of it. Maybe more than here.
...Michigan recruited the kid heavily. Gunner Kiel's "story" was the same thing.
