Jabrill Peppers Blogging for USA Today
Jabrill Peppers has agreed to blog for USA Today about his life and football recruitment. Here's a link to his first entry... which also has a link to his music video.

I do feel like I'm gonna be coming to a decision soon though. I just want it all to be over and done with.

Actually a lot better than what I was expecting. Props Breezy.
That's the first time I've embedded a video, so you can bet I'll be overdoing it from here on out.
Although I've kinda set the bar high for myself by posting easily the best song ever written about having your period. No where to go but down from there, really.
Produced by MF Doom. Wow.
I'll definetly root for him too.
The life has been hard on him but the kid is hungry as hell ! Wish him the best
One small correction, he's not the consensus number two across all sites. In fact, all sites don't even have a consensus number one.

Correct, I completly forgot about 247 for some odd reason. He is currently ranked 9th overall on their site.
is he another music major like the db from last year who committed to usc?
does the music school have a major in rap performance?
But the music school does have the Performing Arts & Tech Program

The music theory & piano performance requirements are pretty rough on a non-formally trained musician (reading music and all, if you can't do it you're behind the ball). But if he's a smart kid it's doable.
Seems like he is working hard . . . I will follow him either way now!
Not singling you out, but I think that this sounds silly. It's one thing to say that he sounds like a good kid and you wish him well wherever he goes, but to say that you will personally be rooting for him on another team just sounds like fluff.
/end rant
"I'm serious about schoolwork so when things start affecting that it's time to cut that part of it off. I just want to focus on keeping my grades up and getting my team a national championship."
I really do like his attitude towards this - he seems very focused on "doing", if you will, and the present and wants to do just as well now as he hopes to do in the future, both academically and athletically. It seems like he has found a nice balance for himself now, a grounded approach which will definitely help him in both arenas later.
It's nice when prospective Michigan players are guys who you'd like no matter their team. Both football and MBB seem to recruit a lot of said dudes.
The kid is talented, but I hate this because it's going to be very hard for him to resist the "Snoop close:" "Come play at USC and I'll use my connections to get you a recording contract."
This does raise a question, though. How many of the players Snoop closed actually recorded an album, or even a single in a professional studio?

He plans on committing in June and wants to visit Stanford before then, no visits planned for USC.
USC isn't a threat in his recruitment, so I'd say it'll be very easy for him to resis the "Snoop close."

I agree that the blog was clearly a move to gather more attention for his music career by leveraging his position as one of the nations top football recruits. As a musician with nothing to leverage for publicity, I can't blame him. Particularly since isn't seem to be doing music to stay in the public eye after his athletic relevancy; the vast majority of both his music and athletic careers are ahead of him.
I also like the tune. It doesn't sound like self-paraody or patronizing to his fans; he sounds like a young rapper fighting for his slice of the pie. That's cool. That's genuine. And I hope it works out for him if football isn't all he dreamed it could be. Two risky career choices; to be sure, but he seems reasonably well equipted to roll with either.
I think he likes the media atttention, and that sorta thing, but that he's getting sick of talking to coaches and schools that he knows he won't fit in at. He wants world-class academics; particularly in the music program, and world-class football. It's pretty easy to see why his decision will probably come down to Michigan vs Stanford. For any kid making that decision I have the deepest respect; you really can't do better either way.

So we get an awesome football player and rapper repping the U of M! Hail!
Having recruits all into football is great, but I love seeing the guys like Jabrill who are also interested in academics and other pursuits as well and seem mature beyond their years.. I hope he selects Michigan, but he'll be easy to root for no matter what school he chooses.
comes a knocking and either wants to sign him immediately to do his rap thing for huge cash money do you think he goes in that direction instead of playing football?
