Conley to Ohio [Ed: LOCKED!]
A little birdie saying Gareon Conley has committed to Ohio State. On official visit. Will look to confirm.
Commence reactions.
EDIT" His high school coach has apparently confirmed.
[LOCKED - PGB: Well, I go out for a long lunch break to take my kid to get his haircut and I come back to this mess. It took Ace, BiSB, and now me to weed out one f-ing bad apple. Instead of trying to go through the entire thread and delete any reference to that poison fruit, I'm locking the thread and hiding the comments. Sorry to all who wanted to comment. The news is out there and I assume Brian will post it too so you all can comment in that thread. And, yes, it was fun moderating a thread started by a former mod.]

Damn You!!! I need to get faster at creating topics.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:32 PM ^
It's not a big deal to create a thread. You don't get anything for being the guy who posted a thread. Relax.

If my memory is correct, Brian.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
My expectation was that he would end up at Oregon, but I guess they want him to visit before granting him an offer... and then there are rumors that Kelly won't be there next year...
December 7th, 2012 at 1:33 PM ^
He said some pretty pro-OSU stuff the other day, and I'm sure Meyer pushed him to commit right away...My initial reaction, I suppose, is that I'm a little bit itchy.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
Don't forget how Urban played Bri'onte Dunn. He visited the Dunn family at home and said if you visit Ann Arbor next week I'm pulling your Ohio offer.
He committed on the spot and I'm betting Conley heard that same line today.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:58 PM ^
That woould mean that Meyer has a very similar policy to Hoke.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Hoke doesn't pull offers if uncommitted recruits take visits.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
The only recruit that Meyer actually did that to was a committed Brionte Dunn...
December 7th, 2012 at 3:02 PM ^
And hence your incorrect usage of "that would mean" when referencing Conley.
December 7th, 2012 at 3:09 PM ^
Notice how I said "similar" policy and not "identical", while the post I was responding to had references to both Dunn and Conley. Nice try though.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:13 PM ^
Given that Dunn was committed to OSU, it's almost exactly like Hoke's policy.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:17 PM ^
Seriously
December 7th, 2012 at 2:01 PM ^
Or maybe, just maybe, the kid wanted to play for OSU more than he wanted to play for Michigan. Take off the homer glasses for a second and realize that a kid from Ohio chose to play for an Ohio State program that just went undefeated and is being coached by a two-time national championship winning coach.
I wanted Conley to stick with Michigan too, but it's kind of ridiculous to assume that the only reason OSU would nab a recruit from Michigan is because of some shady reason.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:05 PM ^
I referenced Meyer pushing him to commit right away only as an explanation for why he'd commit on the visit and not take his Michigan trip. It should never be a surprise when an Ohio kid picks OSU.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
I'm not criticizing you. There's just always a lot of "Meyer must be doing X" sentiment on the board when OSU recruiting comes up, and there's plenty in this thread. My response was a more general one to that line of thinking that I just happened to stick in a reply to someone who replied to you.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:15 PM ^
No problem...I was explaining myself b/c my first comment was a little too close to what you described.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:41 PM ^
EDIT: My hilarious "abandon thread" GIF disappeared/failed to embed, so I'll erase my judgy, self-righteous post. But this thread is still getting too ugly to hang out in. Good luck, everybody.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Or he could have just made up his mind or save a spot in their class? Many recruits commit before taking all their scheduled visits.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
As I said, it's never a surprise when an Ohio kid wants to go to OSU. The reality, as I'm sure you understand (but as others seem to want to refuse) is that Ohio kids generally grow up loving OSU, especially when OSU has been kicking Michigan's butt for the better part of a decade. Meyer is also a great recruiter and a great coach, and they went 12-0 this year. There doesn't have to be much to this.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:32 PM ^
Reaction: Someone less suited for Michigan committed to a program he is more suited for, that more suits his needs/interests. Which only makes room for a kid more suited to Michigan to actually sign with Michigan. Its all good.

The sooner the Conley/Dawson sagas end the better. These shows have gone on for too many seasons. Good luck to all! and to all a good night!
December 7th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
best of luck to him.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
Booooo.. Shitty move.. Oregon i could have been ok with, but the Buckeyes..COME ON MAN
December 7th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
Bummer. Not that surprising, but disappointing still.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
They offered him as an athlete?
December 7th, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
Yeah, I believe so. Conley has expressed interest in playing offense. He had a pretty big year at WR this past season.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:48 PM ^
Man, if only there were another team that he could have considered that had a glaringly wide open depth cart at WR. Maybe a team with which he was familiar. Of course, you would want to make sure that said team had a well regarded incoming QB to throw you the ball and a well regarded crop of O linemen to protect that QB so that he had time to throw you the ball. Oh well, it's a shame no such school exists.
/kidding around - I don't really begrudge the kid choosing any school that he wants, but if WR was his thing, we have to look good on paper.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:56 PM ^
Maybe Hoke and co. told him he'd be playing DB and not trying out at WR. I assume it's not a free for all regarding who plays where when they come in.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
I thought Michigan was going to give him a shot at WR, but I don't have a link to that.
December 7th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
You could be right, I honestly don't know whether or not the coaching staff was open to letting him play offense.
December 7th, 2012 at 1:38 PM ^
fuck him just like Meyer, and that shit hole Columbus,

I will be extremely OK with this if we can land LMIII. Otherwise, he will be sorely missed.
