Well first off, Go Blue! Beat Ohio! Second, how does scoring work?
February 3rd, 2012 at 4:25 PM ^
Ok, I will try to simplify as much as possible. First individual matches are scored:
4 Points (Near Fall 5+seconds)
3 Points (Near Fall 2-5 Seconds)
2 Points (Takedowns, Reversals)
1 Point (escape, each min of riding time)
Then from individual matches teams are awarded points as follows:
6 Points (Pin, Forfeit, Disqualification, Default)
5 Points (Technical Fall, with near fall points scored)
4 Points (Technical fall, with NO near fall points scored)
4 Points (Major Decision)
3 Points (Decision)

have the near fall points always been like that? Perhaps I am just exhausted after an extremely long week but for some reason I remember the near fall points being different a few years back.
Maybe i'm just having a moment, though.
sorry if im just being dumb.

To be honest I am not sure. I had to look up the actual scoring break down. It could be that all near falls are scored as 4 point take downs because it is tough to reverse such a position in 2-4 seconds.

1 point for 2 seconds
2 points for 3-4 seconds
3 points for 5 seconds.
You can only get 3 back points during a single pinning hold. A 5 point takedown is 2 points for the take down that goes directly into a pinning position and is held long enough to get the 3 back points.

yeah thats more like it.

12-7 Ohio. Tough overtime loss at 157 would have given Michigan the lead. They are basically going to have to win 4 out of the 5 remaining bouts to win.

Zeerip gets screwed by the officials and it's 15-10 Ohio. Should be 13-12 Michigan with 3 bouts left.

That is actually not true. Regarding near fall - it is either 2 points for 2-4 seconds, and 3 points for 5+ seconds, with an extra point that can be awarded if the defensive wrestler is injured or bleeding profusely and the action has to be stopped.

Beat ohio!!

the only person to beat Russell in the last two years is the kid he is facing today who is a freshman. So I really hope he gets him this time.

Hunter Stieber is hurt so he will not get his rematch till the big ten championship.

in OT? We must have won the match but how?
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:44 PM ^
he got an escape then jumped on the guy who was still on the ground which is either takedown after escape or at worse a reversal... they gave us 1 point not 2 or 3 he got an escape the ohio guy did to tie it in the next 30 seconds and he won cause he had 15 second more riding time. but it was horrible cause after getting the escape he jumped on the guy and rode him out for close to 15 seconds so basically after the escape for zeerip the last 15 seconds didnt count cause the ref is a idiot

Looks like we are about to get jobbed
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:31 PM ^
And we did
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
That was some awful call. That second ref was just as clueless.
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
Michigan's Justin Zeerip just got robbed. That is the worst call I have ever seen in 10+ years of watching wrestling. I understand the possible confusion in calling the reversal vs escape plus takedown... but to not even award the reverse of control with 10+ seconds at the end of the period, which ended up costing the wrestler the match? Those two refs should somehow be penalized, whether by a fine or by being suspended from wrestling for a period of time. Unbeliebable.
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:45 PM ^
The ref was so flustered when he was trying to explain his reasoning to McFarland. Hopefully zeerip can get revenge in the tournament.
February 3rd, 2012 at 8:05 PM ^
But 184 and 197 got murdered so it didn't matter in the team score. Still awful tho.
February 3rd, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
we ended up holding out our good wrestler at 197 pounds Max Huntley cause the match was already over and he got hurt and had to forfiet two mathes ago against Minnesota, so if we had not got robbed and the match was still winnable he would have wrestled and then who knows. The ref took the steam out of our team and it is sad to see Zeerip lose considering he has never won head to head versus that kid from Ohio. And every match was close one thing goes his way he could have a few wins head to head.

this would've been the perfect time to have instant replay. Or just, you know, a polaroid camera. Or a courtroom sketch artist.
