Confirmed: S Quinten Johnson is Returning for 6th Year
I think I've seen two outlets reporting this. Here is the report from 247's Zach Shaw.

Imagine how mad Ohio fans are gonna be when we have another 6th year player laying the wood on them.

Maybe new user "Harmon4Heisman" (https://mgoblog.com/users/harmon4heisman) will share some more (https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/anybody-got-line-chatter-something-bad-broiling-within-athletic-department-stuff-about) juicy punishment rumors with us.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:14 AM ^
He explicitly told us he is not an OSU troll, which is a totally normal thing to do. Some of you have serious trust issues.
March 12th, 2024 at 12:45 PM ^
...and has TWO Michigan degrees.
...neither of which were in grammar and syntax
Since when did they start taxing syns?
March 12th, 2024 at 10:06 AM ^
Yeah, a really nice return and helps with depth concerns at safety.
I'm interested to see how the team does post-Spring and if they pick up another guy in the secondary, preferably at corner, and maybe a receiver.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:11 AM ^
S Quinten gonna lock you up!
March 12th, 2024 at 11:58 AM ^
To the tune of LL Cool J's Momma Said Knock You Out.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:11 AM ^
We'd better rename him Sexten Johnson, then.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:59 AM ^
/golf clap
March 12th, 2024 at 10:15 AM ^
Glad to have him back but it does worry me about being able to keep Zeke Berry.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:26 AM ^
Why?
March 12th, 2024 at 10:31 AM ^
We rotated QJo, Rod Moore, Makari and Sabb at Safety last year. Replace Sabb with Berry, potentially.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
That’s a fair concern but I think Berry has to prove that he’s, like, good first.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:33 AM ^
Zeke is going to get A LOT more snaps this year, now that Sabb has transferred out. I imagine he'll be eating into a lot of the snaps Sabb was otherwise going to get
And then with Moore, Paige and Johnson all graduating next year, Zeke is virtually guaranteed a starting spot in 2025.
March 12th, 2024 at 12:52 PM ^
Nothing a Mercedes or two can't fix.
I doubt Bama would give him a Mercedes to stay at Michigan
March 12th, 2024 at 10:16 AM ^
This is great. Between him, Berry, Hillman, we have enough safety depth to allow them to help cover the NB spot with McBurrow/allow McBurrow to compete outside as well.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:18 AM ^
That still isn't a confirmation that he will be returning -- just that he intends to return. The article puts forth the requirements for him to return and then says...
[I]t’s not immediately clear if Johnson officially met every threshold, was granted a waiver or is still waiting to hear eligibility specifics
I wish I could say I wasn't nervous, but I'm always nervous when it comes to the NCAA. I'm still scarred by Jeremy Clark not being granted an injury waiver back in the day.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:25 AM ^
But Warde has repaired the relationship between Michigan and the NCAA/B1G!
March 12th, 2024 at 10:40 AM ^
Typical.
Here we are (prematurely) celebrating some fantastic news and without fail, some random jerkface poster has throw cold water on the party by injecting stupid facts. And, also without fail, those stupid facts are unpleasant but factually accurate.
Thanks a lot Obama.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:56 AM ^
Hey now..no alternative facts either man. Let's live the sporting life.
That said. Thank You Jesus! Good news!
Michigan confirmed that he is returning per Twitters and to reporters.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:06 AM ^
I mean, is the NCAA in a position to enforce anything anymore? They're now running a professional sports league that they call "amateur."
Against Michigan led by Wimpy Warde, yes.
Against the rest of CFB, not so much.
"I'll gladly serve a suspension today in the hope of being treated better next Tuesday."
I'm not seeing an issue for returning:
- 2019 redshirt
- 2020 COVID
- 2021 year 1
- 2022 year 2
- 2023 year 3
He should have a year left. Also shouldn't be an issue with agents, bc you can have them now.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:32 AM ^
So now are we down to 17 players in the draft? And 15 is the record?
Was Johnson expected to get drafted?
March 12th, 2024 at 10:49 AM ^
I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, I wouldn't have expected him to get drafted. My guess is that UDFA is his ceiling, but then again, I wouldn't have expected guys like Metellus to make it in the league, so you never know...
March 12th, 2024 at 10:50 AM ^
Yeah, Metellus making it i would not have guessed either. And i seen on PFF that Benjamin St Juste is a stud in the NFL.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
You “seen” that? Yikes. User name definitely checks out!!!
March 12th, 2024 at 12:21 PM ^
This board is insufferable when it comes to grammar Nazis. Maybe you’re academics that are just used to formal writing but there’s a thing called conversational language and colloquial use of language that you seem to have missed out on. Wild. I think it’s so you can feel superior; like: ‘ewww, this guy is CLEARLY less smart than I! He used the wrong your! Bahaha…isn’t he dumb? Look how smart I am that I catch these 🤫 most know the proper way as we’ve been through college. We just converse in a different way. Said my piece (sorry for the incomplete sentence).
He also did not capitalize his i's, a grave offense.
Clearly less smart than me
Fergodsakes
Spell it out for us simple folk. How does their username confirm your bias?
March 12th, 2024 at 12:39 PM ^
I live in DC area and I dunno if anyone out here who roots for that team would call him a "stud." He is not sucky on a really sucky team. Draw what conclusion you will.
Why is Mettellus making is surprising? He was a stud in college and scouts watched more film than the dropped INT vs. OSU.
March 12th, 2024 at 12:33 PM ^
Who?
Oh... you mean Martellus, a frequent favorite of Tim Brando.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:21 AM ^
Nope. We've still got 18 in. And I think 14 are sure bets to be drafted, with a chance at 16-18. All 18 are ranked in the top 300 and there are 257 picks. Henderson is ranked 258 and CJ is 270. I'd be shocked if CJ doesn't get drafted. I think Henderson gets drafted. Wallace and Barnhart are 272 and 273; Barnhart is likely to get drafted based on the UM reputation and scouting combine interviews. Jones is at 292 and more athletically gifted than nearly all the other UM OL in the class; he's got a shot.
TL;DR: I think it's more likely we set the record than not.
CJ ran in the mid 4.4s and has a few minutes long highlight of acrobatic sideline catches. He's getting drafted
March 12th, 2024 at 10:34 AM ^
Welcome back QJo! Our depth on Defense has to continue. I can't wait to see who we have replacing Sainristil at Nickel.
March 12th, 2024 at 10:45 AM ^
Those who stay will be champions
March 12th, 2024 at 10:52 AM ^
Those who stay will be back to back champions.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:08 AM ^
Those who stay will be back to back to back to back (B1G) champions!
March 12th, 2024 at 10:56 AM ^
This is huge, he's going to ball out
March 12th, 2024 at 10:56 AM ^
This is great news but our offense is still going to be garbage. We need to hit the spring portal hard
March 12th, 2024 at 11:00 AM ^
Garbage? That is a lot premature. Different without JJ. Let's start there. There are weapons and returning linemen at this point. Bring on spring and conditioning.
March 12th, 2024 at 11:14 AM ^
Yeah "garbage" is a terrible take. We're set up to have a very old OL who have all spent a lot of time in the program OR (in the case or Preibe) have good starting experience. There's a high floor on the OL again. We have a bucket of RBs (Donovan, Mullings, Hall), enough that Donovan can be routinely used in ways other than as a straight RB. We also have Loveland who will likely be the best TE in the country (and would have been least year if it weren't for Bowers).
Yeah there's some questions at WR, and more so at QB. But that's football, you don't get to have 2023 years where EVERY position on both sides of the ball is elite all the time. We're not peak Bama, and in the transfer + NIL age, it may become effectively impossible for teams to hoard talent to that degree going forward.
A good OL and a great RB room is a great place to start. Sherrone and Campbell can build an offense from that foundation.
