Disagree on Trey, he consistently averages about 30 min a night and didn't really lose his starting job, he was asked to anchor the second unit. He regularly is on the floor for Utah in late game situations still.
Actually, sets, quick hitters, isolations, continuities look to attack advantages the offense has all the time. A player in foul trouble is just another advantage. That player guards softer, his teammates over adjust to help, etc freeing up your offensive teammates.
And there are tons of offensive actions run to attack particular areas of the zone, to include the players defending those areas. Many times the main benefit of the zone, the ability to defend aggressively because of the help in various areas protecting the basket, is diminished when a player is in foul trouble.
I do also think that although most I read are not overtly anti-Beilein, the fact that many are complaining MAAR was not in the game, considering what we knew about him at the beginning of the year, again speaks volumes to the player development within this program.
Let's say Beilein deviates from his foul policy, leaves one or both guys in, and then they pick up their third. Then what's the coaching move?
I'm not saying Beilein is always right when it comes to his decision making, but a game is a lot easier to manage earlier when you know what you're working with as opposed to later. Michigan can get by with the two walkons on the court knowing that both starters can return sooner. If either guy picks up their third foul being left in, that just extends the patchwork lineup Michigan must play with.
The flashes this team shows are incredible. I know our draft pick potential guys are older than Burke when he made his decision his freshman year, but they need to see the benefit of another year of development and what playing on a top tier team potentially can do for their NBA status.
After responding to an earlier comment of yours, thinking you were some misguided Michigan fan worried about LOIs, I realize I have probably been trolled.
Brian's talk about not signing LOIs has nothing to do with Weber. He's talked just as much about how the kid at Louisville got screwed over and asked to gray shirt after signing a LOI, along with many other examples in past posts.
IMO, he is after a style of recruit that just doesn't lend itself to a true post player. It's a gift and a curse. The offensive system in place isn't designed for a back to the basket player.
We've had games in seasons past where we out rebounded and out preformed defensively teams we had no business doing so against. Just not our break this year.
I think your post was well written. Where I have an issue with the Beilein criticism is again, IMO, many write it in the same tone we used to criticize Hoke with, and that to me is off base.
I'd love for those attacking Beilein to suggest another coach to bring in. You're going to have a down year in recruiting every now and then.
This is what a young team looks like. Streaky. Inconsistent. Lost. There is no Morgan to lead the way. There is no Novak to mentor a young Burke. That lack of senior leadership is the difference.
Have that book in my newborns room, I read him s little bit from time to time. Will continue to do so until he's of age to understand, can never start too early!
I don't think it's as doom and gloom as some may think. Just as we've had some games over this past three year run where we've shot opponents out of the gym, this two week stretch we've regressed in the other direction. It happens.
I think we finish third in the Big 10 at 12-6. Team will really hit a stride come February. This season more than ever these past three years or so we will see John Beileins offense really become the focal point. I know we shattered efficiency records last year, but I think this season will show how effective his system can be without a go to scorer night to night. We do not have that guy just yet who can take over, but I think by tourney time Walton will be picking up the torch left by Burke and Stauskas.
And Harbaugh will just generate a buzz of energy throughout the athletic program. 2015 will be a great year all around. Go Blue!
Felt like there were times where both Zak and Derrick rushed up shots early in the clock, especially right after that run that tied the game in the second half. I think you have to stay consistent to the offense that got you to that point.
Also Walton's shooting form changes shot to shot. There are times he is going straight up, and there are times where he lands four feet in front of where he took off from.

But those blasting Beilein are misguided at best.

Here's a game to get some mojo back. Go Blue!
