I think my happy hangover from the football championships has allowed me to settle for an apathetic view of M hoops. I just don’t care anymore. Any other year and I’d be ballistic with the state of hoops.
Since the outdoor temp warmed up a bit during game time, I used that time to give both cars a nice bath. I listened to the M radio broadcast just out of morbid curiosity (kind of like how you can’t help looking at the bad accident you are driving by). Poor Terry Mills - that has to be torture doing games for this awful excuse of a basketball team.
I've fallen into the "I just don't care anymore" mode. I have this running in the background while I work on spreadsheets. Sad that spreadsheets are more interesting today
I had a very nice 1997 National Champ sweatshirt. My wife entered a 25k race several years later. It was a bit cold to start the day, so she chose my sweatshirt out of my closet to wear that morning to start the race, and then DISCARD it a mile or two into the race. She seemed bewildered at my reaction when I found out.
There are too many patterns with this program that can provide any rational person with hope for improvement. Constantly out hustled, out rebounded, and lacking the kind of effort you would expect from a premier program. Add to that losing virtually every close game.
Juwan’s success as a player has not translated into coaching success - which seems to be common with many star players from the last few decades (Ewing, Manning, Mullin - to name a few).
It seems clear to most that the Juwan experiment is over. Now it’s just a matter of how long will that reality will be clear to Warde. I’m not optimistic for that to happen as soon as it should.
This is such a frustrating team to watch. They were lucky to have a close game while allowing 21 offensive rebounds. And for much of the game, especially in both OT, offense consisted of much dribbling, no motion/standing around, followed by a forced shot (or turnover). This is definitely a pattern, and it rolls up to coaching. I don’t see anything to make me believe a turnaround will happen.
Our guys did indeed keep it classy after the game. While Ohio and their pathetic fanbase has been wallowing in the mud for weeks, it was great to see our performance on the field do the talking.
I did mute Gus and Klatt for a chunk of the game and listened to our radio guys. I've never been able to sync that with the TV broadcast though. Always seems to be 15 seconds or so off.
I like Gus, but in this game it felt like he went overboard with heaping praise on Ohio - I'm guessing that was an attempt to not sound too homerish? Either way, it got old very quickly.
Considering everything that the team has gone through this year, win #3 in a row feels even more satisfying than the last two. I'm just so happy for the players to be able to rise above all of the garbage tossed at them and come out on top.
Process crime (cover up, obfuscation). With every capitulation, the program seems to further reinforce that there IS something there. Even if it ends up being a nothingburger. I was really hoping for some show of fighting against the mob justice.
Just leaving the B1G for football doesn't sound like a good option. The damage caused to the M brand by our fellow "member" universities transcends the football program only.
SwampFox, that is what I was wondering. Is it possible to demonstrate that the B1G members have damaged the M brand to such a degree that M can leave the conference with minimal penalties? A few weeks ago, if anyone had suggested to me that M needed to leave the B1G, I would have called them nuts. Now.........not so much. Burn the B1G to the ground.
Stephen, 1973 was horrible. Bo never got over it. That was a snub of horrific proportions indeed. A slap in the face from many other Big Ten members (including Sparty).
What is happening now is beyond a horrible snub. It is a direct attack at our school, our team, our head coach, and the integrity of our athletic department. All while having nothing to do with due process.
So.....barring an injunction against the B1G, M wins out and then destroys the pathetic loser team from the west in the B1G championship game. At which point we take the trophy from Petitti, and immediately give him a colonoscopy with it without fentanyl or versed.
It is time to go fully nuclear on the B1G conference, Petitti, and his Suckeyes buddies. Our lawyers are going to rip them to shreds over how they handled this.
I think that take is spot on. I also doubt that Petitti thought that M would fight back like this. I hope he has soiled his shorts multiple times due to the M response
