I got a Solo Pi as a gift…

I got a Solo Pi as a gift last summer;  it wouldn't work for your requirements (too small).  It's fun but there's only 2 of us so the size is fine, and it stores in a deck box when I'm not using it.  I went with the gas kit I've never tried it with wood.  Gets plenty hot.  I've only bought the ready to use fresh dough at Busch's, making my own is the next step.

First of all,…

First of all, congratulations on getting your doctorate.  That's something.

My niece graduated U of M this weekend, and we realized in the 3 years she had student tickets (she transferred in 2021) she's never seen a loss at the big house, because there hasn't been one to see.  Pretty cool.  But I'm not flying her back for games this year!

Just saw one of these last…

Just saw one of these last week.  I gotta say (and I just had to get a new plate the old one was toast from salt) the 'maize and blue' aspect of the current ones didn't even register for me - it was just a new yet 'retro-style' plate that looks like the old ones nailed to the garage wall!

They can have their green plate, but no blue jeans they should have to wear green ones all the time.

Thanks for putting these…

Thanks for putting these together.  I don’t follow the NHL that closely and it’s great to see some of our favorites get the opportunity to keep playing.

Didn’t read the article ($),…

Didn’t read the article ($), but the quotes from the player highlight one of my issues with players being convinced to return for NIL.  I don’t know why anyone with a legit shot at getting drafted would pass on that to take money without the protection of the CBA, pension vesting, disability coverage, and any other benefits afforded to pros.  Maybe if they think they will move up enough to cover losing a year?  It seems foolish.  It’s not even like the brown bag days, now it’s taxable.

Congrats!  Our niece…

Congrats!  Our niece graduates from nursing school at Hill on Saturday.  So happy for her.

This was our move when we…

This was our move when we dropped actual DirecTV satellite - since the interface was the same, even the channel numbering.  Unlimited (okay it's 20) devices, works in multiple states (and out of country with VPN), unlimited cloud DVR, and stable service.  If I had to nit pick, the 'auto extend' for live sporting events is problematic but that's easy to work around.

In Ann Arbor now and since…

In Ann Arbor now and since you are obviously familiar, I would recommend.  Have lived in Dallas and Chicago, neither of which I would move back to.  As to the people recommending MN - that is on my short list of 'yes' destinations (Mrs. Jones has frequently hopped jobs, and I'm full time WFH).  But Minneapolis stands out for another criteria you did not mention - air travel, since it's a Delta hub.  Whether in the old days of my business career, or currently travelling just for enjoyment, being within easy reach of a major airline hub is really helpful.  having to make connections to get anywhere from smaller airports just invites pain.

Toyota Hilux; the US…

Toyota Hilux; the US-specific Tacoma is a poor substitute.  We are starting to plan a retirement to Mexico and I can have one there.

At least he got those gold…

At least he got those gold pants to remember… oh wait never mind.

Not sure what’s next because…

Not sure what’s next because my preferred ride for the last 15 or so years, a Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel, is no longer available.  Love it for the road trips from MI to CO.  But the last time I did the ultimate old guy purchase: in 2022 I traded my white 2016 with 120k for the lowest mileage 2018 (last year) in the country.  Same colors, everything.  Total dad move.

I don’t remember that,…

I don’t remember that, because I chose to ignore it and follow the ‘trust the coaches’ crowd.  That worked out well.

Felt like it took him a long…

Felt like it took him a long time to start to show the potential talent we knew he had.  But he represented the M well and we’ll always have that highlight play against Sparty.  Best of luck Frank!  But fuck the Blackhawks, lived in Chicago in the 00’s and the Wirtz family’s intentional neglect of that team was criminal.

I remember walking by it by…

I remember walking by it by accident in the late 90's, it was 1/2 a block south of the World Trade Center Marriott and had that iconic awning that was always shown on TV when they had the ceremony.  I though it had closed, and per Wikipedia it never reopened after 9/11 and is now condos.

Oh yes, if you are old…

Oh yes, if you are old enough,  'pulling an OJ' was the term for making a mad dash through the airport to catch a plane.  That went away after the murders.  Not to mention with post-9/11 security measures, you'd probably get tackled anyway.

(oops, meant to make this a reply to the old Hertz commercial someone shared)

Cool!  Leaders and best etc.

All this thread needs now is a Conor Stallions sign-stealing joke, and... sorry I don't have one.

I’m not sure I see the…

I’m not sure I see the parallels, but she has been good for the game, there are millions of new fans who couldn’t name ONE WBB player before her.  And I think WBB has a real chance to pick up longer term fans, I enjoy watching the game at least as much as the men.  KBA has been great for Michigan.

Long ski weekend in CO.  Too…

Long ski weekend in CO.  Too far out of the zone, I’ll be curious about the shadows but not planning on active viewing.  Honestly, I remember being underwhelmed with a prior, partial eclipse (I’m old) so I’m not too worried about missing out.

You’ll be good - no exclusions for idiocy.

Toledo regional next year, that’s like a home game.  So they’ll probably put Michigan in Sioux Falls.

Love that they asked Nazar in the post game  if it meant more against Sparty - uhh.. YEAH!

Great win.  Love the…

Great win.  Love the highlight reel pass by Nazar, but Warren’s goal to go up 2-1 was my favorite moment.  Knew they were gonna win after that one.

I know what I just saw, but I don’t believe what I just saw!

No way that’s 5 the boarding call in the first when Estapa got hit was worse.

That was crazy, TV had that puck going right in off his skate!

Only one I care about, but two of them should be playing Sunday in the B10 ‘footprint.’  Stupid NCAA regionals.

His teammate skated up then he laid back down.  Didn’t even look like a hard hit into the boards.

I must have missed it on the terrible TV coverage.  Did they show anything that looked like an injury?

This third period looks like the team that stomped MN 2 weeks ago.  Go Blue!

Interesting idea, as today…

Interesting idea, as today Michigan Medicine just announced their plan to develop a facility at the old Kmart HQ in Troy.  I’m sure they have at least considered whether Briarwood was an option for future facilities.

Adrian has this - women’s hockey and men’s volleyball.  Or course, they also have varsity bass fishing.

Aha!  I stand corrected,…

Aha!  I stand corrected, then.   I did not see Lindenwood listed among the DI programs.  But I guess that makes St. Louis a real hotbed of college hockey.

Thanks for the great…

Thanks for the great illustration, never been to one.  All my experience is with car auctions, so I do have a question - can you set a reserve?  So, potentially go back home with your livestock if no one 'ponies' up? (sorry that was too easy)

The absurdity of this will…

The absurdity of this will pale in comparison to tomorrow's absurdity - 3 Michigan teams playing their regional in St. Louis, which has to be hundreds of miles from ANY college hockey program, right?  In front of dozens of fans I'm sure.

Obviously, I concur.

Obviously, I concur.

Thanks!  This is absolutely…

Thanks!  This is absolutely my favorite memory of all those great Wings teams.  Just a perfect goal.  it felt like the cup was theirs after that.

I'm not going to say that was the greatest moment in Michigan sports history, but it's in the running.

Audi was the pioneer of high…

Audi was the pioneer of high performance awd cars, and they still make spectacular winter rides.  And compared to the weak things in my last few Jeep suvs, Audi heated seats are on another level.  They wild melt your clothes or keep the pizza hot.

Also, whatever you end up with, find a set of used rims and get winter tires.  Awd plus tires is unstoppable.

These guys are ready they…

These guys are ready they aren’t scared one bit.

LFG!

Well, it’s a loop, so what…

Well, it’s a loop, so what goes up must come down.  So purely from a climbing perspective, not that awful.  But everything else about this race IS awful.

I’ve done some mountain racing, and besides the conditioning required to make climbs like that at anything approaching a run, what blew me away was how fast the elite runners were downhill.

Yeah, if you think 5…

Yeah, if you think 5 marathons back to back sounds crazy - add the elevation change.  And mountain terrain.  And mountain weather.  Crazy right?  Oops, also the course isn’t marked and you can’t use GPS, just map and compass.

if all this sounds crazy, but you haven’t seen the documentary, watch it.  It’s worse.

Boo.  Not a Denver fan after…

Boo.  Not a Denver fan after 2022, I spend a lot time out there in MI gear and their fans, rightfully, are proud of their team.  But doesn’t seem to impact Michigan.  Denver dominated OT skated much better.

Watching this SCS/Denver…

Watching this SCS/Denver game, it occurs to me that (big) IF first round NCAA tournament games were played on home ice, a conference ‘final four’ tournament weekend at a neutral site would be kinda cool.
