Rob Pelinka and James…

Rob Pelinka and James Voskuil would have absolutely thrived under Beilein.

That one hurts more than the CMU loss.

No Isaiah Barnes on the…

No Isaiah Barnes on the bench tonight.  Interesting given the fact they mentioned the coaches/staff that were out sick.  Also, Yoyo on the bench but didn’t get in that final minute.

Sad to hear this news.  Like…

Sad to hear this news.  Like many of us in our late 40’s, the ‘89 team got me hooked on Michigan bball.  Calip was a “little” dude but could throw down the occasional dunk.  Thankfully he was there for the 90-91 team that needed an experienced leader.  He could really fill it up and was fun to watch during the Raycom tv days.

Crazy…he’s now the third player to pass from the 90-91 team. Tony Tolbert (Covid-last year) and Sam Mitchell (carbon monoxide-1995) were the other two.  RIP, thanks for the memories.

Thank you.  What a prick!  …

Thank you.  What a prick!  “Pretty sure he traveled on that two”.  He was at least 1-2 feet behind the line!  Not a travel either.

The jackass in the yellow…

The jackass in the yellow hoodie gets my vote for Most Obnoxious Fan.  Dude must really think he has some influence because he won’t shut up or sit his ass down.  Loved when Hunter threw it right back at him in the first half.

And then temporarily shuts…

And then temporarily shuts me up with a three.😄

It’s becoming more clear…

It’s becoming more clear that Joey Baker needs to be starting over TWill.  He’s an actual threat from deep.

Would love to see Williams’…

Would love to see Williams’ minutes reduced and more Jace and combination of Tscetter/Baker/Khyatt at the 4.

  • I just want to see him get a chance.  It seems like after Kentucky he’s earned that.  Happy to see Yo Yo playing well out there tonight.
Strong probability Barnes…

Strong probability Barnes hits the portal…hits two threes and plays solid defense in first half of Kentucky and hasn’t sniffed the floor since.

My thoughts exactly!!  I don…

My thoughts exactly!!  I don’t get his allegiance to him as a small 4 when we have 3-4 other dudes the same size who shoot the ball a hell of a lot better.  I cringe when he fires from deep.

Noticed Brandon Wade hasn’t…

Noticed Brandon Wade hasn’t been on the bench?  Maybe I missed something, but I’m curious if he left the team along with Zeb?

Unreal…..game is a blowout…

Unreal…..game is a blowout and he still keeps Houstan in the game.

Based on what I’ve seen…

Based on what I’ve seen tonight and the past couple games, Bufkin should be getting more of Houstan’s minutes and the same for Jace taking TWill’s.

I don’t get BJJ playing less…

I don’t get BJJ playing less than 10 minutes in a critical road game.  I just know that Houstan should not be playing starter minutes (25+).

Bingo

Bingo

Watched David DeJulius last…

Watched David DeJulius last night for Cincy and couldn’t help but wonder how he’d look as a senior starter.  Always liked his game and thought he had a game similar to Derrick Walton.  Also, he had 24 points against a good pretty good Arkansas team.

Quick correction.  Tolbert…

Quick correction.  Tolbert and Talley were part of the 89 class with Sam Mitchell, but Mitchell played a year of prep school ball in 89-90 (prop48?) and wasn’t technically a freshman at UM until 90-91.  Bossard and McIver were the 1990 recruits.  It’s referenced in the fab five book that Bossard and Montross were roommates on a recruiting visit.  That 90-91 team also had Kirk Taylor and Freddie Hunter.  Bossard was a legend.....not a top 100 recruit, but could light it up and averaged over 30 points in high school.

There will be a lot of…

There will be a lot of parity among the top 10-11 players.  Now that all the seniors have had their meetings with the coaching staff, I’m guessing the underclassmen are up next.  Expecting Franz’s announcement tomorrow or early next week.  Outside of Dickinson, would not be surprised if we see a transfer or two over the next two weeks.

So true?

So true?

John Chaney was a goon and a…

John Chaney was a goon and a mean looking one at that.  Definitely not the “great man” news articles are making him out to be. Sore loser after losing to Michigan in 1993.  He HATED Steve Fisher and the Fab Five.

What’s with Livers’…

What’s with Livers’ obsession with rolling up his shorts?   Maybe it’s all about showing off his ink, but they’re already short enough.  Riduculous look when he’s constantly screwing with them at every stoppage of play.

So, Izzo didn’t get his way…

So, Izzo didn’t get his way this time so he has a hissy fit and resigns from the board....what a guy.  Hauser loses NOTHING by sitting out a year like everyone else.  Remember Brynn Forbes?  That whole transfer was total BS....knocked up his lady and he gets immediate eligibility because of a “family hardship”.  That was unheard of until then.

I like how you think.  I…

I like how you think.  I vote for Bossard as strength&conditioning coach if Sanderson leaves.  Dude knew how to hit the weights....too much actually.  He was a good enough shooter that he may have thrived in Beilein’s system.

Please, enough of this Steve…

Please, enough of this Steve Wojo, Bobby Hurley talk.  Two of the biggest Duke Villains of all time.  There are better candidates with Michigan ties.

Player comps Yeah, good point, I missed that. I hope all these guys have higher ceilings than where they currently are ( especially guys like chatman, maar, donnal, doyle). Wasn't trying to be a downer, but guys like donnal and chatman were really disappointing based on hype we heard prior to season. Trying to be realistic with Duncan Robinson, given the fact that he played d3 ball. Always fun to make comparisons to guys we watched in the past. By the way, Seter was around between 87-92, really only played meaningful minutes for a season or two, as was Kirk Taylor, who was a top reserve and part time starter for most of his career. He tore his acl as a sophomore which affected his progression.
Player Comparisons

Chatman- Surprised nobody has compared him to Willie Mitchell.  Both 6-8, overhyped and soft inside.  Mitchell had a decent career at UAB, but never lived up to the hype.  Hoping Chatman can become a DeShawn Sims type player in time.

Robinson-James Voskuil.  Voskuil was better than his stats showed.  Probably would have been a double figure scorer anywhere else since he only played 10-15 mpg.  Actually, watching Jake Layman from Maryland reminds me of Voskuil and if Robinson can be that type of player as a starting 3 or first guy off the bench that would be great.

Doyle-I like the Graham Brown comparison posted earlier.  He could surprise, but I don't see the same type of athleticism as Jordan Morgan.

Donnal-Chris Seter.  Similar rankings out of HS, both redshirted, both versatile yet soft down low.  Seter had a few injuries that didn't help him either.  This coming year will tell if he can become something more.

Walton-Daniel Horton?

Albrecht-no one from my memory compares to Spike.  Yes, maybe a little Dugan and Garde Thompson(too young to remember), but Spike has more flash to his game than Dugan and is a better ballhandler.  As good of a shooter as Dugan was, I'd take Spike any day.

Wilson-will he be more like Maceo Baston or Leon Derricks?  I like the Maceo Baston comparison much more.

MAAR-Kirk Taylor.  Both versatile enough to play 1,2 or 3.  Taylor was good, but final year was spent on the bench behind jackson, king, voskuil, pelinka.

Dawkins-has some Jimmy King to his game.  I hope he sticks around all 4 years.

Irvin-Lester Abrams/Jerod Ward

Hatch-would love to see him on the team for the next three seasons and hope he can contribute on the floor by senior year.

Makhtar ....really hurt that 1993-94 team more than anything. Was always called for Offensive goaltending( one that burned them in elite 8 against arkansas), technicals, etc. Plus, took minutes away that should have gone to Olivier saint-jean. Losing Olivier was a shame.....fisher over-recruited at tne 3 in 1994....should've stayed away from mitchell, white.
James voskuil I think he's one guy who would have flourished in belein's system. Would have have been a great "stretch 4" at 6'8". One of the reserves behind the FF who maybe should have kept his starting spot as he was a better shooter than Ray jackson.
Jason Bossard.... ....left me wanting more after his wild senior night game. Also, bobby crawford, rob pelinka, james voskuil.
Bossard

I'll always remember Jason Bossard's senior nght - it was amazing!  If I remember correctly, he hit 5 threes and ended up close to 20 points.  Sportscenter gave him props too.  Granted they were playing PSU, but it was great to see him make good on getting those few minutes.  Maybe Fisher should've given him a few more minutes his senior year - I hear he was an absolute lights-out shooter in HS......I bet he would've found a spot on a Beilein team.
