The only newsworthy part about this is that they felt the need to wear college football playoff patches on their jerseys, which is the most MSU thing ever
I'm sure he'll be great as a DL coach, but I've always doubted him as an Xs and Os guy. I shudder at how our defense would've looked under him without Mattison. Good luck to him though, hope he does well
The state of Michigan would probably worship the Harbaugh family if your scenario played out. Statues of Jim and John in front of the state capital perhaps?
This actually wouldn't be the most far fetched idea of all time, the lions do have a ton of talent to work with and you'd already have a solid DC if you could retain Teryl Austin. I don't see the Ravens actually letting him go after one bad season due to a crazy number of injuries though
But should Bush really feel indebted to us because we offered two of his teammates and they accepted? (If we'd be disappointed taking them without Bush, should've never offered them IMO.) Or because we worked with his father for a satellite camp that was clearly mutually beneficial? I want him to make the decision to come here because he actually wants to, not feels pressured to.
The 2012 team went 8-4 in the regular season with losses to the #1,2, and 3 teams at the end of the season, with the 4th loss to Nebraska when Denard got hurt. I really don't get why everyone is so quick to bash that team.
Damn. I definitely did not see this coming, was very excited for him to be a part of this class. I'm really wondering what made him decommit after being solid for so long
Kobe has absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. He was the face of the sport for a decade and has had the career that every NBA player dreams of. It's sad to see that he can't reach the level we've become accustomed to seeing him play at, but I have nothing but respect for him
As far as memorable games vs OSU, it's not a pleasant memory but the 2010 Big 10 tournament game where Evan Turner hit the buzzer beater is definitely memorable
Okay, what's your explanation for why almost every running back since Mike Hart has been mediocre to bad then? I'll give you toussaint in 2011, but that's one year out of several, and otherwise the results are very unimpressive
Because I think the degree of difficulty for some of those shots was way too high. And doing that doesn't allow other players to be as involved. Luckily he made some of them but you can't rely on that consistently
Has anyone else noticed LeVert is trying to do way too much on offense and not getting others involved? Seems like every time he gets the ball he tries to shake the guy for about 10 seconds before taking a tough shot
Even more surprising considering he's Andre Rison's son, who had a great career at MSU and most assumed he was a lock to go there. Also this trend has to be concerning for them, with 4 decommitments in under a week. I'm loving every second of it.
Can anyone comment on whether Michigan uses this rugby style tackling? By many reports it seems to be safer and more effective, and I'm naturally curious after reading articles that many teams, including both MSU and OSU, have already switched to it
I couldn't agree more. For anything that is not a live game, I have no reason to watch ESPN anymore. Their daytime talk shows are awful. Most of their talking heads often try to just get by with offering commentary on drama that is going on within a sport, instead of the sport itself. And even for highlights, sportscenter has gone from must watch TV to unnecessary for me. It's much easier to take out my computer or iPad and find highlights of just the specific games I'm interested in, and I don't have to watch all the ads or fillers that come with watching SC.
I got a notification on my phone with the title of this, saw "Cole Absence" and thought Mason might be hurt, and proceeded to have a mini-panic attack. So thanks for that. Otherwise great work as usual.
They had almost the exact same timeframe the last time, when they fired Kiffin mid-season, and look how that turned out.
IMO, they need to stop looking for a USC guy like Sark was. It's that same thinking that got us Hoke. You hire the best coach, period. And I don't think Haden should be the one doing it either.
I know TDs thrown for a QB is usually a very important stat, but I wonder how well it translates to our analysis of Rudock, as it seems that our offensive playcalling seems to heavily prefer to run the ball in for a TD rather than pass in red zone situations (nothing wrong with that IMO). I mean Rudock himself has at least 3 rushing TDs as far as my memory serves. Doesn't mean Rudock isn't doing his job as far as moving the offense down the field. Edit: Also, some quick googling shows we're ranked #14 in the country in red zone efficiency, so maybe the strategy of running it there is a good one.
And as far as INTs too, if you acknowledge the Utah game as an outlier (possibly chemistry issues with Perry), you're looking at 3 interceptions in 5 games, putting him at 7.2 INTs/12 games, which are fairly close to Cook's numbers.
Plus don't forget the whole "WE WILL WALK THESE STREETS" speech, which did nothing but reaffirm that their biggest source of self-validation is beating us
Some great points. I've been amazed by the improvement on defense as well, but that's what great coaching will do. The secondary looks so much better it's absurd. It's been beaten to death but I think Manning coaching DBs with no previous experience doing it was a horrible decision.
And I'd argue with regards to the run game that they're not exactly identical, we racked up huge numbers against App St and Miami(OH) last year and that probably makes those stats misleading.
Apologies, was looking at it on the app and all the columns didn't show up at first. Knowing the TD/Int ratios are the exact same, all I have to say is wow. It's amazing how everyone else elevating their game can mask mediocre QB play.
There were many who said the only reason RR wasn't successful here was because he couldn't or M wouldn't put up the money to get Casteel as his DC. And now that looks like a flimsy statement at best, so yeah I'd say it's pretty relevant.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Harbaugh would have done wonders with Gardner, and it's a damn shame Gardner never got the coaching he needed.
As far as your analysis though, you left out turnovers, which would be a major factor to compare as well. The YPA is also interesting, Gardner's was 7.65 to Rudock's 6.46.
Because the objective is to win the game, not hurt other players. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that we play very physically and as long as we're playing clean, it doesn't bother me too much if other players get hurt. It is football after all, and players will get hurt. But do we have to make a thread counting the number of opposing players we hurt, and treat it like it's an accomplishment?

Now this would be a perfect gameday sign.
Same with Colquhoun or however the hell you spell that, I've seen him burned at least 4-5 times this year.

I've gotten to the point where I've become more of a cynic than a fan, it won't be long before I stop paying attention entirely.
