Hadn't heard that about Lotief. Know that Hutch admired him and seemed to be on collegial terms. The charges seem somewhat on the "thin" side. Looks like this may be more of a case of him pissing off persons above him in the athletic department.
position to Mike Candrea this year. He has already picked up 12 games this year and is now only 4 games behind. Arizona presently has the most wins in D1 softball.
The team's present team ERA of 2.66 is higher than any final team ERA in the history of M softball. Betsa, our ace, has an ERA of 3.06. This is not good. 20-0 Florida team ERA is currently 0.58. Good pitching is essential when you get to the elite WCWS level. Gotta hope that Betsa is working through something and that she will right the ship.
If preliminary 1m diving placements held up for finals, UM stands to lose 20 pts to IU. The 17th through 24th places from the prelims also get points even though they do not dive tonight.
Freshman freestyler Mokhtar Al-Yamani has had two very disappointing swims so far...well off his season's best times, in the 800 fr relay and the 500 free. Appears he is not in top form for whatever reason. Need points from him in the 100 and 200 frees yet to come.
Teams I am more worried about than Oklahoma are the ones with top pitchers...Kent State, UCF, come to mind. It's pretty much about pitching from here on.

I looked up the NCAA D1 medical hardship rules. Driesenga would qualify. Needs to be applied for after the season is over. I am thinking that Hutchins will finish the year with Betsa/Wagner and bring back Driesenga next year.
the team would set a new season record for HR's - 127. 2005 team hit 103 HR's. NCAA Division I record is 158 HR's by Hawaii (2010 in 66 games). I'm guessing small park and maybe favorable winds.
Alabama had the schedule set up to have an advantage against M. They had UM as their first scheduled game each day - Friday and Saturday, while it was UM's 2nd game of the day. They also cancelled their Friday night game against JMU due to cold weather. So, when we played them today, it was their 2nd game of the weekend and they had only used 1 pitcher. We were playing them in our 4th game of the weekend and had already used 3 pitchers on Friday. (Though pitchers routinely go again sooner in SB). Impressive work by all of our pitchers. If we stay healthy this team should go far.
Not only was this year's class the highest rated in program history, next year's class is even more highly rated. As high as #5 by one service, and consensus of about #12. It includes a highly rated 6'5" big, the one thing we have really lacked - size. The future is very bright.
They really went farther than I thought they would. The name of the game is elite pitching... like Ricketts, and others. Haylie Wagner was our #1 last year, was a pre-season watch list player. Expectations were that she would be improved from last year. Just didn't happen. We don't know the extent of her injuries, but the loss of Wagner really handicapped this team. Driesenga did a heroic job and had some terrrific, gutty efforts to get the team as far as it did. Kudos to her and the whole team, but the fact is that this team had the highest team ERA in Micigan history.
You would think that next year looks promising, but again it all comes down to pitching. Wagner needs to get herself right. Driesenga needs to improve. And hopefully one of the two (or our incoming Freshman - Betsa) rises to the elite pitcher level.
All in all, a good year given the above. I am hopeful about next year.
Looked up B1G record book. Conference games only HR record was 10. By my perusal of conference box scores it looks like that was Sierra Romero's 11th conference HR.
She is still two HR behind the conference HR record for all games - 24, but of course has probably at least 6 more games to play.
With the 16 ER Wagner and Driesenga gave up this series M now has a team ERA of 2.33. This is the worst ERA (by far) of any Michigan team since 1980. That's as far back as the record book goes. It's great we have a good hitting team, but big time softball is about pitching. Can't see this team going any farther than a Super Regional.
From articles in the Salt Lake Trib, it appears his stats are basically for 1/2 a season, as he only became the starter in mid-season after the senior ahead of him went down.
Story is up on Mgoblue now. Apparently it is the longest Michigan streak the athletic deparment sports info people can find, so yes, it is an M record. 43 games!, wow, she still has a ways to go, but awesome job for a Freshman.

Good to win, but note that Canisius is now 0-3 and this was actually the closest game for them.
Have you, or will you put up a torrent for the NC bb game?

Ask them about who/when to get in touch with. That's a for sure safe way.

Believe we only had one weekend sweep all of last year.
Gentry listed 6'-7". LOL, the DB's barely come up to his shoulder.
Think Betsa's streak now at 41 consecutive scoreless innings is more impessive than the strikeouts.

year. But won by over 150 pts last year. Problem is the momentum they have now given to Indiana in their home state.
Edges Stanford by a couple tenths of a sec. Assume Stanford will put up a faster time in their conference championships upcoming.

WD. It's actually 5 goals in 8 games.
Siobhan Haughey (UM Soph to be) will be swimming for Hong Kong.
challenged for her starting spot.
Good to see the return of Ramirez to the lineup.
Don't like bring in someone who hasn't swung a bat in a long time for someone who's already 1/3 in the game.

Star pitcher/player - Lauren Haeger and only one other starter from the WCWS.
"Bonk" is interesting and hilarious.
B1G tourney title path just got a little easier. Iowa 2 Minn 0

but Pac12 and B12 championships yet to go. Could get surpassed.

Hurt? Ineligble? What?
Michigan ranks 25th in Div I in points per game.

(Fr) Nicole Sappingfield hit in both games to extend her hitting streak to 19 games. Not sure if that is a Michigan record.
