So the other day I made the post about the championship bottles in Lowell, MI at Showboat Spirits...  I ordered one of each and working out the shipping with a friends.

Well, I just saw where Woodson Whiskey just released their team 144 commemorative bottles.  Fortunately THEY SHIP!!!

So if you like whiskey or just a collector, then hit up this link:

For the skeptics, Charles Woodson Whiskey is LEGIT good.

This isn’t just a “support a Michigan guy” thing - you’ll genuinely enjoy drinking this if you like bourbon. In that price range, I switch between Woodson and Angel’s Envy as my personal favorite.

Oh, and Woodford Reserve made a National Championship bottle too. VERY good.

I actually don’t believe it’s a white label product. I think he actually does own the process end to end. Obviously the mash is made in Kentucky, but it’s definitely barreled and bottled in California because it uses the Woodson wine barrels for aging.

I don’t have a bottle in front of me, but I think it’s a 2 year whisky with rapid aging.

This is what I was told by a gentleman in the local Total Wine shop.

Barrel proof is 125. That's the starting point. Everything else is diluted to get to a lower proof. This one seems to be 45% vol by alcohol, so 90 proof. Chances are it's going to be smooth. Should be similar to Eagle Rare 10 years in "bite".

People need to understand smooth can sometimes mean watered down as well. What is harsh to some is just cask strength and its natural form before diluting it. There are people that add a ton of cubes to 80  proof whiskey to make it smooth. My first adventures in the whiskey world I thought 80 proof was plenty bitey. We just did a 143 proof Jack Daniels hazmat project back in a barrel to age a bit more. It was incredibly smooth (yes we have issues) already with a grape bomb note to it.

If you are local, Stadium Market on Packard and Stadium has a nice selection.  I bought 3 bottles of the National Championship Woodford engraved bottle (15-0) at a very reasonable price.  I have purchased quite a few Woodson Whiskeys there as well, I haven't seen if they have the Team 144 but you can call them.  I got my very last bottle of Eagle Rare from them last fall, the 1.75L version, so they get it from time to time. Seem to have plenty of Buffalo Trace as well.

His whiskey is smooth. Charles also has pretty good Paso Robles Chardonnay, Cabernet and Red Blend under the Intercept brand.

One morning, after the lousy 2019 home loss to OSU, I was sent  out to the local A2 Meijer on Zeeb Road to pick up eggs and some other stuff in the dairy section. Luckily the wine section (why is it next to dairy), Charles Woodson was in sweats helping a guy load up his wine bottles in a display. Nobody was around so we got to grumble about the state of UM football then ( seems like a million years ago) and then talk a little wine, which he got into when he was playing for the Oakland Raiders. Just a great , great passionate UM guy.

I bought a few bottles  ( to go with my eggs) which he autographed and he made an awful weekend very memorable in a good way.

Got a bottle, undetermined if I’ll drink it or just keep it as a memento.  No idea what would make me decide one way or another.
