Today's Schedule of Games
It's ON! November football - 2 days early - is upon us. Lots of meaningful games in the Big Ten especially.
At noon: Michigan - Michigan State. We have been critical so far of how Harbaugh wants to play football, complaining that Michigan does not have a dynamic enough offense nor dominating enough defense to keep up with Ohio State. Fair points for discussion, but that is a topic for another day. For this game against Michigan State, the way Harbaugh wants to play football is the right way to play: establish the running game, take advantage of play-action passes, play contain on defense, don't give up big plays. If he does that, he wins 9 out of 10 games against MSU. Take care of business and hope for no stupid shit.
Also at noon: Iowa - Wisconsin. In spite of themselves, Bucky is in control of their fate in the Big Ten West. They looked down and out a couple of weeks ago, but I think they pull this one out and take the lead in their division.
Also in the Big Ten in the afternoon at 3:30: Purdue - Nebraska. Purdue is trying to keep pace in the Big Ten West, but I think this is the game that Nebraska finally gets off its slide and wins a game on a key play instead of losing a game on a key play. If you gave Nebraska just 5 plays to change, they would be leading the Big Ten West by a comfortable margin. Too late for that now, but they will show what they could have been.
Also at 3:30: Georgia - Florida. People are sleeping on Florida as if they have no chance. They do and they will give Georgia a game. But they are too disorganized to pull it off for 60 minutes, and the Dawgs stay at #1.
Also at 3:30: Texas Tech - Oklahoma. Texas Tech has changed coaches in the middle of the season. This often leads to a level of turmoil where the team just packs it in and kills off the rest of the season. But sometimes . . . it has the opposite effect and lights a fire under the team's ass and they play out of their minds for at least a game. This could happen here, and if it does, Oklahoma - who has been living on the edge all season - goes down.
At night in the Big Ten at 7:30: Penn State - Ohio State. Penn State is a mystery. Nobody has any idea if the most important person on the team is 100% or not. I'm talking about James Franklin. Clifford is an enigma too. Penn State has the defense to stay in this, but will they get any help from their offense? It doesn't look like it. Ohio State wins big and Penn State is out of the picture in the Big Ten East.
When that gets out of hand, I'll turn to: Ole Miss - Auburn (starts at 7:00). The fight for second place in the SEC West. Hide yo' golf balls. This will be intense, Nix versus Corral under the lights. At least one of them, probably both, will do something spectacular. Not sure if Corral will do something Heisman-worthy, but I think that Ole Miss gets it done on the Plains.
Finally, late at night, your Pac 12 After Dark Special - crazy meaningless football just for the fun of it. Looks like we are making up for last week having no proper Pac 12 After Dark Special by having two of them: UCLA - Utah (10:00) and Washington - Stanford (10:30). Why does it feel like UCLA has already played at Utah like three times already this season? Any way, this is an actual meaningful game for the Pac 12 South and I'm going with Zach Charbonnet and the UCLA Bruins. For the Washington - Stanford game, I've given up on watching Washington as a measure to see how good we are or are not. They are a disaster versus pre-season expectations. Stanford will make that even worse.
