A devastating diving accident has paralyzed a University of Michigan student. But a wave of support is pouring in for the young man, now fighting at U of M Hospital to get back to living life.

Taylor Janssen was set to start his junior year at the U of M this fall.

Just a week and a half ago, the 19-year-old from Commerce Township broke his neck when he dove into a shallow part of Lake Sherwood attempting to retrieve a volleyball.

The life-changing accident prompted friends and family to make sure Taylor is ready for the challenges ahead. Taylor's father Mark Janssen says his son will likely be paralyzed from the chest down.

There's a gofundme page for Taylor if you're interested. Averaging almost $90.00 a donation. Pretty damn impressive. Give 'me hell Taylor!

Perhaps somebody in the MGoCommunity can connect these two so the former can mentor the latter for the betterment of both? Taylor has a lot of joy and contribution ahead of him.

Yah I reposted something and people reacted overly aggressive without seeing my edit comments.

Anything I need to be mod-worried about? Didn't see what evolved after my last comments

between freshman and sophomore year.  he missed a year but came back, graduated, and now 30 years later has lived an incredible life, wonderful wife, 3 sons, works for U of M.  i have told him a number of times over the years how much I admire him and how i don't think i would've been able to do 2% of what he has accomplished.  go blue!

Last week on our vaca trip we spent the night in Richland, MS on our way to Gulf Shores.  We were traveling with another couple and they went to pick up take out while i monitored the 5 kids at the Hampton Inn pool.  Nice, new hotel, but the outdoor pool was only 5 feet deep.  I was that dad and said "no diving", even though the other guests had all their ankle-biters diving all over the place.  I didn't win any "dad of the year" comments from our disappointed group.  After reading this article I don't feel so bad.  Prayers out to this young man and his family.

i had a role in spine surgery for like 5 years and ive seen a few of these. on the worse end of the spectrum they have to basically bolt someone's head to the rest of their body.
