Stanford: David Shaw has resigned as head coach at Stanford following a 35-26 loss to BYU in the season finale. Shaw was 96-54 in 12 seasons at Stanford, which struggled to a 3-9 finish this fall, and finishes his career with the Cardinal as the program's winningest coach. He won three Pac-12 championships and also won two Rose Bowls.

This may be the most difficult Power 5 job, just given the academic standards and requirements.

His and Harbaugh’s successes there are testaments to just how damn good those two are.

Very much true but could one argue that Harbaugh gave Shaw the blueprint on how to be successful in such a difficult place for football to be successful?

It also reminds us just what a brilliant coach Harbaugh is in how he has taken beaten down programs and transformed them into winners everywhere he's been.

It's time, he's run his course at Stanford and the program has been going downhill for the last several years.  But what an outstanding run he had!  He not only sustained Harbaugh's rebuild of that program, he took to a higher plateau.  He had Stanford on equal footing with Harbaugh's Michigan program recruiting wise from 2015-2017.  High level OL recruits were choosing between Michigan, Stanford, and ND routinely.  Dude was a really good coach, and was just adored by his players and fans alike.  His personality was so different from Harbaugh's that I wonder how they could be friends!

Forget what Stanford looks like today and realize that David Shaw earned his retirement with aplomb.  I would love to see him on the sideline Saturday as a guest of JH.
