SIAP Insane comeback in M Women's Track 4x400 relay
I didn't see this posted (apologies if it has) but it's getting a lot of national attention from the likes of Rex Chapman and others on Twitter:

M was down 4 seconds going into the last leg with Ziyah Holman (freshman) anchoring but she came back and won. If I remember correctly, this was/is Hunter Dickinson's girlfriend.
Pretty awesome, but even more so that it's representing Michigan. GO BLUE!

So the indoor track isn't 400m? Her doing 2 laps threw me off.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:01 PM ^
Apparently not. I was confused initially as well.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:51 PM ^
Did they drop an exchange? Why so far behind? Sorry if I missed something!
January 20th, 2021 at 2:20 PM ^
The first 400 I ran was on a 200m track and it totally messed up my pacing. Was winning after the first lap, and then throwing up in second to last place on the home stretch. Good times

Was a hurdler in high school. Loathed the 300M hurdles. Couldn’t imagine the agony of the 400M hurdles.

Indoor tracks are typically 200m (occasionally 150m). It makes distance running a nightmare, but, as a spectator, it’s nice being closer to the competitors/action since the footprint of the track is so much smaller.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
Most are going to be that 200m distance but sometimes you’ll run into 300 or 150m ones to really mess with your head.
I absolutely puked after my first college indoor 400 as well detroit

So, hypothetically, a Dickinson/Holman son would be a tall, fast super athlete?
Imma spend the next couple minutes thinking about a UM version of Randy Moss.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
DAMN! That's impressive.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:15 PM ^
Damn! That deserved a bigger crowd. That's a hell of an anchor. She was at a completely different speed than everyone else for the entirety of both laps.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:15 PM ^
Damn, that was incredible! Hadn't seen that yet so thanks for the share.

Young lady comes from a great family in the DMV - Amazing person. Two-time Athlete of the year for Track and Field. Oh yeah - and if you are a fan of Michigan sports, watching this video will get to you. Won't be the last time we hear from here in a big way. May qualify for Olympics soon. Lot of heart. Go Blue, Ziyah

Nice, way to stay running really fast Ziyah, GoBlue!
January 20th, 2021 at 2:29 PM ^
That was insane! I don't remember the last time I saw someone come from so far back in a high level race.

Stand by for the kick of Dave Wottle...

It is worth noting that WD made Ziyah's Hello post, BEFORE Hunter Dickinson had committed to Michigan

I did a quick bit of googling.
They had her anchor split at 51.79 seconds.
2016 8th qualifier for the US Olympic team was 51.80.
Considering she is a freshman, this was indoor on a 200m track which is slower, and after that amazing leg it really looked like she had more at the end I think she has a great shot at making the team.
Good luck to her that was an amazing run. For me, 4x4 is easily the most exciting race in track.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
Thanks for the comparison.

1. Absolutely correct that she has a shot at the Olympic team
2. Relay splits are usually a bit faster than normal (the baton exchange essentially gives them a running start)
3. This is an amazing run. Glad she's a Wolverine!

For sure. My fastest outdoor time was always better than my best indoor split. I think she’s got it, especially with whatever gains she makes over her first year.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
I saw that yesterday, and it's still thrilling. Goooooooooo, Blue!
January 20th, 2021 at 2:46 PM ^
Holy. Crap. That was blazing. I can’t imagine being one of the other team’s anchor legs knowing the inevitability of what was about to go down. I imagine it’s a bit like being stranded on a surfboard and hearing jaws music playing.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
Super hard. I always preferred to be the chaser than to be out in front. When someone is that fast you just know they are coming
January 20th, 2021 at 2:54 PM ^
As a former high school quarter miler (yes, back in the 70s we still ran the 440yd dash rather than 400 meters) I fully appreciate what she pulled off.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
Wow! That's gettin' her done!
January 20th, 2021 at 2:56 PM ^
I especially love that she's so far behind that no other runner shows up in the frame for nearly 15 seconds.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:19 PM ^
i love track for exactly this reason. so great.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:37 PM ^
“Holy, Guacamole!”
January 20th, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
Well that was very satisfying. Go Blue!
January 20th, 2021 at 4:08 PM ^
I hope neither one of them wil be "one and done".
January 20th, 2021 at 4:41 PM ^
Awesome running. Thanks for sharing. Glad it's getting some social media love, personally I found the media circus around the Sara Fuller kick annoying, there are plenty women athletes doing way more impressive athletic feats than 30 yard kickoffs and extra point kicks... Like running a 400 in under 52 seconds.
January 20th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
Wow! That was impressive! Thanks for posting. Totally outclassed the other anchor leg runners. So smooth and strong, can’t believe she’s only a freshman.
January 20th, 2021 at 5:10 PM ^
Holy cow! That woman is fast.
January 20th, 2021 at 5:22 PM ^
DAMN. She was what, 100+ meters down? Incredible! GO BLUE! A star is born...Ziyah Holman is a balla.
January 20th, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
She blew by the first runner like she was standing still.
This reminds me that there is a kid at U of D Jesuit right now- Jaiden Reed. He is a sophomore, but I saw him at the CYO finals a couple of years ago and he was running faster then in 8th grade than some of the guys on U of M’s track team. Broke the 34 year CYO record in the 100m. I certainly hope Michigan has their eye on him.

GoCubs!
January 20th, 2021 at 5:43 PM ^
That girl fast.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:26 PM ^
I had a HS teammate do something like this, down 50 yards to begin the anchor leg of the 4x440 against our archrivals. We needed the relay victory in this final event to win the meet, and he ran a sub 50 split to win. But considering the level of competition, his feat pales in comparison to Ziyah's! Videos like this get my heart pumping. Go blazingly Blue, ZH, and thank you for coming to Michigan!
