Recruiting question: Any word on some of the lesser rated players

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
I don't follow recruiting super closely but I was wondering if those that do have heard any in-season senior year performance updates on some of the commits who the recruiting services haven't rated as highly. The weekly recruiting updates have been taking about Peters and the RB's and Viramontes a little. Just curious if there has been any word on guys like Mettelus, Devin Gil, Weaver, McKeon or Sir Patrick Scott.

Check their twitter or their Hudl.  They have been posting stuff.  For example, Flanagan is doing really well so you can check out their games on Hudl, etc.

Sometimes, MaxPreps have those, but it seems like it is highly dependent on schools and conferences which players see their stats updated with any regularity. It is definitely hit or miss, though sometimes 247Sports, if the player has a page, will have high-level stats from which few conclusions if any can be drawn.

good for him, im sure hes psyched to get some props from espn.  im still not sure where the staff envisions playing his teammate gil (though id guess LB) or why they even offered gil given his tape but metellus has a chance to be really good.  easily one of the most promising safety prospects theyve signed in a while

Gil may never be a stud starter on D, but I am a fan of the offer. He's instinctive and goes hard after the ball. At worst, he's a great special team player who brings the wood and gets the team fired up. I recall reports from Michigan's fall camp saying the team was soft, and not ready for Harbaugh's intensity. These Flanagan kids seem to fit the Harbaugh mold--they're looking to hit kids, they're proven winners at a high level, and they're well coached by Devin Bush Sr.

Sam Webb talked up David Reese during a recent recruiting round-up, ILB from Farmington.  He'd always been a straight-ahead thumper, but this year he's added an ability to go sideline-to-sideline and track plays down.  Has good ability to diagnose and attack plays.  He'd been working on his coverage in the offseason, and Web noted that Scout saw improvement there in the 7-on-7 circuit, and that's carried over to the season.

This is supported a bit by Ace's post a few days ago, http://mgoblog.com/content/future-blue-originals-farmington-vs-southfie…, where he generally liked Reese.  There was a lot of talk around here about him being a FB at Michigan, but he seems to be improving at ILB.  I'd be curious to know if Magnus has looked at any of this year's tape, if he likes him more.  There was also at least one local coach who gave a review of Reese, said he was straight-ahead tough, but not an impact player you had to specifically prepare for.

EDIT: local coach said this about him last year, be curious if that's changed
