Quiz: Are you a Big 10 homer or OSU hater?

Submitted by PhillipFulmersPants on
It's September 12. The tanned masses from the Left Coast have converged on Columbus. Lights are on in the 'shoe. The Sweater is perfectly pressed for ABC prime time. Pete Carroll's hair looks fantastic, god dammit, and Herbie is practically giving himself an aneurysm trying to sound neutral. Question is, Michigan fan, who you rootin' for? (I know one Big 10 school's answer: http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/content.detail/id/520718.html?nav=5017) Okay, the Penn State stuff is the real reason for the post (already anticipating a showdown with the Bucks before fall camp seems a bit premature, no? And wishing a conference rival beat a team this year that you failed to beat last year because your delicate conference ego is bruised seems a tad lame to me.) So we know PSU's answer. But as I'm bored, how 'bout a little Glamour Mag style multiple choice quiz to find out yours. "When USC plays OSU ..." 1) "I hope OSU rolls over the Trojans so even the fans from crappy SEC schools like Mississippi State will stop laughing at us." 2) "I'm torn. There's no good choice here." 3) "I'd like it to be a good game, and with time ticking away and OSU fans thinking they've finally stood tall in front of an audience of zillions just as Ronald Johnson hauls in a bomb for a TD and rips their hearts out." 4) "I hope 'SC embarrasses them, because it will nicely complement the LSU and Gator embarrassments I have proudly displayed on the mantle." Scoring key: If you answered … #1, you are Jim Delaney's wife and/or Administrative Assistant. Or the equivalent there of. #2, please report to Will Call and return you're official Michigan Fan i.d. card. In our out, Poncho. Those are your choices. #3, you're still probably pissed that RoJo packed up for L.A., and you're hoping no one digs up those gracious send offs you gave him on message boards three years ago. You remember. Like "Have fun getting buried on the depth chart, Rojo! You traitor. I hope you get on the field for some mop up time before your junior year!" Or "Carroll's just telling him he's going to get a shot at receiver, blowing some serious smoke. He'll be a corner within a month." Yeah those. #4, You are the 2nd most interesting man in the world, right behind the guy from the Dos Equis ads. If you don't like these answers, which you probably won't, go to town with your own. My hopes: USC multiple score victory. Also, living in SEC country, my take on the typical fan here is that an Ohio State win over 'SC, even a convincing win, won't sway opinion of the Big 10 or the University of Ohio State much. "Stay thirsty, my friends."

100% of the time, I say "F OSU!" I want the Big 10 to do well. But I want to see OSU fans cry even more. That said, I also hate USC. With a fiery passion. My hope is that they BOTH suck. Then I don't care how it comes out.

I've gotta go with number 3. Its a depressing defeat for OSU, but it also puts the Big Ten in a good light. Anytime OSU loses is good - except when it comes against the ESSS EEEE SEEE! (And from the OSU folk I know, that tends to be the way that they go as well; granted, those OSU folk I know are actually real people instead of the common The University of Ohio State neanderthal)

Hope OSU rolls, and the Big 10 sheds our shitty reputation this year. In fact, I hope OSU is 11-0 coming into the big house and we take care of business. The way I see it, it is good for the rivalry and the conference if they are good, and if they go 12-0, I hope they go 13-0 as much as it pains me to cheer for them in the MNC game. Yes, I'm a conference homer through & through, and while I despise OSU, there's no team whose record matters more for the reputation of the big 10, and reflectively, until we prove that e deserve a positive reputation otherwise, the reputation of Michigan, so I have to hope they look good, ESPECIALLY in OOC play.

1) If UM beats OSU this year, then I want OSU to beat USC. It makes us look better. 2) If OSU is ranked btw 10 & 20 and USC in top5, I want OSU to win. It makes Big10 look better. However, 3) If OSU beats UofM, I want them to lose to USC. 4) If OSU is ranked in the top 5, I want USC to win. While I don't like either team, I have never run into nearly as many A-holes from USC. SC fans in Pasadena were all nice . . . no drunken hillbillies.

Honestly, time for my negative points to roll in, but I want Ohio State to win every single game except the one against Michigan. My rationale for this is if Ohio State is 11-0 and then they lose to Michigan that loss is even more heartbreaking for the Bucknuts. For them to be so close to another BCS title game loss only to get their ass handed to them by the Maize and Blue is my ultimate fan dream. The tears of crushed Buckeye supporters would bring me the most immense joy I could ever imagine. Michigan beating an 11-0 Ohio State is just more satisfying to me than Michigan beating an 0-11 Ohio State.

I will never root for OSU. The fact that USC, who I am not terribly fond of, is the opponent makes little consequence. Beyond OSU and Illinois, I generally have no problem rooting for a Big Ten team if they are not playing one of the teams from Michigan.

I used to cheer for all B10 teams, but since the internet has allowed me to see just how badly OSU fans hate all things Michigan, not to mention their insufferable bragging about their current streak in the series, I always cheer for OSU to lose. I hope, in a bizzare replay of the 1981 UM-Illinois game, with OSU taking the Illinois role, they go up 21-7 and lose 70-21. It would be so great to see a premature celebration by their fans turn into a "premature evacuation" as their fans leave at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

I guess it really comes down to who I've cheered for in past B10 battles versus other powers. I remember cheering for PSU over USC last year (for all of 1 Quarter at least), and I cheered for every other team in their bowl game. I want to say I would cheer for OSU, but I remember my heart would not let me root them on in their battles over the years with UT, USC, Miami, and the SEC. The SEC doesn't own the B10, it owns OSU. If they want to continue their role as the nations choke artists, well then, choke away.

I want the big ten to look good. Plus we have OSU on our schedule and that is our chance to prove our superiority and crush them, why ask USC to do it for us?

Who cares about whether the Big Ten looks good? Cheering for your conference is like kissing your sister. You only do it if you're from the South. I always root against tOSU.
