i am as well. Some of the "firm handshake" 5th years that I had on my list i.e Godin and Braden are definitely NOT on it anymore. Not sure how we can get to the 28 projected -- and with top 100 guys seemingly starting to line up for those last spots!

I doubt we will get to 28 now precisely because the RS juniors have been better than expected. You can always give the "firm handshake" to a couple current commits. Might make some people feel uncomfortable but it's not like you'd be stripping them of the chance to play CFB on scholarship.

Strictly in terms of on-field performance, Gant, Richardson, Strobel, and possibly Bars are really the only redshirt juniors I can see who could be given the "handshake."  That, of course, ignores the fact that some or all of them may be excellent locker room guys, exceptional leaders, or personalities that the coaches wouldn't want to see walk out the door.

But my primary point is that unrenewed redshirts gets us to 3 or 4 additional scholarships at the absolute maximum.

It wasn't like David wasn't perceived by many as an excellent kicking prospect. The fact he hasn't shown the form he had as a HS Senior doesn't mean he won't get there.

Four years is a long time. 

FWIW, a Nordin flip is a plus increasing the kicking competition (and bottom line, it doesn't look like Kenny Allen is giving up that job too easily).

Sounds like a bit of a reach...neither Nordin or David have been considered elite punters and Baxter even said last week they are looking at a couple Aussie punters. That would mean 3 scholarships for those positions. Unfortunately its hard to read this as anything but a knock on David.

They're willing to use 2 scholarships between K and P. And we will not have a scholarship punter on the team.

David and Nordin would be the only scholarship guys - unless Allen returns (I assume he got a scholarship)...but even then, that's just for a year.
