OT: Who do the Detroit Tigers draft at #1

RHP Emerson Hancock - Fastball reaches high 90's (98).  Great slider.

1B Spencer Torkelson - Power Hitter with very good eye.  Not much of a fielder, but is setting homer records in college (crushed Barry Bonds freshmen HR record at Arizona State, which was also a Pac Ten freshmen record, and 1 away from tying the National Record (25)

I would rather they get Torkelson.  He, to me, is more of a sure thing.  Hancock has higher upside (higher upside than Mize probably) but he doesnt have the control of Mize, or the amount of pitches in his arsenal.

The Tigers right now have better pitching in their farm system, and i believe they really, really need a batter to eventually replace Cabrera, and Torkelson is it.  He is the surest thing.

If they do not draft one of the above, i will consider their draft an enormous letdown (unless maybe high schooler Blaze Jordan, who could turn into a Torkelson).

Whats your thoughts on who the Tigers should get?

Definitely a position player who can hit for average and some power.  The minor league system is full of position players that cannot hit a lick.  It is incredible that the Tigers have such a bad minor league system.

Not a pitcher. Not a pitcher.

We need position prospects in the worst way, as in, it is frightening what is NOT likely to emerge from the farm system in its current state.

As many have said, it’s way too early. Indeed, there are no guarantees that the Tigers will hold off the Orioles for the top pick. There are two months to go. That said, if you happen to subscribe to Baseball America, they’ve got a way too early 2020 draft mock up: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-mlb-mock-draft-way-too-early-edition/  . One is Hancock; two is Torkelson.

Head over to portage, michigan.

Try to convince Luke Leto to be born a year earlier or hope that he has enough credits to attend a jc next year and pull a bryce harper.

Problem solved.

The tigers always draft the pitcher with the biggest arm (when drafting high) and have been pretty successful with those picks. Why change?

I just hope they rebuild well and are a good team in 9 to 10 years when I retire. It would be nice to have a good baseball team to follow in the summer.

The real answer is “who knows”! The draft is almost a year away and most have no idea who can rise up and take over as the #1 prospect. At this time last year Zion Williamson wasn’t even thought to be the best draft prospect on his team and Kyler Murray wasn’t even on most QB draft boards.

The biggest issue is our scouting department has been terrible for a decade. Avila shouldn't have a job. A lot of our so called pitching talent in the minors has sucked it up this year. Our top positional players have regressed. Look as Daz Cameron, he looks like he should be sent back to single A.

We need a whole lot of everything. The only thing our farm system has is Mize and Manning. No positional players to get truly excited about. It's bad when the last positional player in our farm system to make any kind of noise was Cameron Maybin who we traded and has been just an average Major league player.
