1-0 Wings from a PP goal by Mantha late first period.

I would give Brian's left nut to be there tonight awesome venue.

Go Copper Kings!
September 26th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
2-1 Wings after a really pretty solo effort from Mantha only about 15 seconds after St Louis tied it at 1-1.

This is my parents’ hometown. My dad played for Calumet and played for Tech and won a national title in the mid 70’s. Lived there for 7+ years managing a pharmacy in Hancock; 2007-2014. Different world up there! Moved back to Kzoo in ‘14. Wouldn’t change that experience for anything.

My family is from Hancock. I didn’t know there was a pharmacy in Hancock... besides the hospital up there on the way to calumet
September 26th, 2019 at 10:03 PM ^
It’s the Apothecary LTC pharmacy at Portage Health that I was affiliated with.

This is awesome! LGRW
Hilarious camera angles with ceiling beams in the way.

Being from Munising. Its awesome seeing them play in the UP.

I wished I lived in the U.P.
Wings look good

Calumet, Michigan. That was the original invasion jump-off for the Soviet army in Red Dawn.
But they settled on Colorado instead

What a great setting. The oldest indoor hockey rink in the US
September 26th, 2019 at 9:33 PM ^
Thanks for that cool factoid!
I just tuned in when I saw this thread 5 minutes ago. Great that the Wings and /or NHL are doing this game in such an off-the-beaten-path location. What a treat this must be for those Calumet/Keweenaw Yoopers!
LGRW!!!
(edit: since I don't see it mentioned yet, the broadcast team mentioned one long-term benefit Calumet got by hosting the "Hockeyville" game tonight: the NHL pumped $150,000 for renovations into the Calumet hockey arena over the summer.
Holy wah!)

Pretty cool concept by the NHL. They've done this at least the last 4-5 years now. What a great way to promote the game. I'm sure Kraft picks up the tab for the advertising too.

Pretty cool to see NHL playing games in small venues and especially up in the UP. You can't get much further north in Michigan than Calumet.
September 26th, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
My son's played there a couple times. It's a great area with a proud hockey tradition.
I think it's so cool that the NHL and Kraft do this. It means a lot to the people of Calumet.

I like the home and home every other year between Cranbrook and Calumet high schools. I attended the game last year at Cranbrook.
September 26th, 2019 at 9:51 PM ^
Holy wah!
when we lived in the UP, I/we were many time NHL champions. Seriously. I would add that the 'N' was for 'negaunee', not 'national '
admit it, I had you there for a second....

My dad graduated Calumet High School in 1945 and my grandmother was the captain of the Calumet women’s hockey team in 1926, in the team photo she is a big, mean-looking Joe Thornton style center-forward. Cheers to the Copper Country!
September 26th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
Super cool! I try to get up there every year because my father graduated from Sacred Heart in 1948. I voted to put this game in Calumet.

Too bad NBC let Pierre McGuire have a mic
September 26th, 2019 at 10:06 PM ^
My dad went on a recruiting visit at UM for hockey. He actually met Bo and was given a Michigan Stadium tour on his visit. Cool story, bro!

Was just drinking out of my Red Jacket Brewing glass the other day. Check it out if you go, inside Michigan House. Very good for a small brewery in Calumet!

Calumet once had a much larger arena-the Palestra. It was dismantled and moved to Marquette where it became home to a lot of great hockey, including the Marquette Iron Rangers of the old USHL. The Carlsen brothers, who played the Hansen brothers in the movie Slapstick, were among the players

Hoping autocorrect got the best of you there on the movie title.
September 27th, 2019 at 7:15 AM ^
Oops. Should proof better I guess. The movie was Slap Shot of course. Great movie.
Bonus Calumet trivia. Georgie Gipp was from Laurium, a little town next to Calumet. Calumet claims him as their own.
September 27th, 2019 at 8:43 AM ^
Well to be honest had a fair bit of slapstick comedy in the movie.
September 27th, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
After all of the OP garbage that has been posted the past 2 weeks, I enjoyed reading about this game, the factoids and even some of the personal stories from some of our MGo UP brothers.

Highlights if you missed the game in beautiful HD
September 27th, 2019 at 8:35 AM ^
This was a great game. It was really fun. The sounds of the game were excellent, not sure what it was but I could hear the skates on the ice, the puck on the boards and pads, it was excellent. Something about the acoustics in that old barn.
September 27th, 2019 at 9:51 AM ^
late add, from one of my yooper buddies. pro hockey literally started up in calumet/houghton area.
September 27th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
Having family in that region, this was really cool. The Wings should go up to the UP every now and then. That really is hockey country.
September 27th, 2019 at 10:45 AM ^
That was cool, what a fun environment and great treat for those hockey lovers, eh?
Plus this team is going to surprise people this year.
LGRW!
