Finally. Some good news in 2020.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:34 PM ^
FIFY - Looking great for The Game.
No 100 for Day or Heisman for Fields. 2020 isn’t too bad after all.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
Good. Epic troll job by UM to cancel the game so OSU can’t get to B1G playoff and loses out on CFB playoff.
I have been asking for this outcome .... maybe there is a God?
December 4th, 2020 at 6:38 PM ^
There's not.
But it's still pretty cool.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:26 PM ^
I like how people, whether religious or not, state with absolute certainty, that there is or isn’t a God, when there is literally 0% evidence either way.
December 4th, 2020 at 9:26 PM ^
Wrong. You can’t prove a negative. You can only accurately claim that something people say exists lacks empirical proof.
December 5th, 2020 at 6:31 AM ^
There are people that think men can have periods. No empirical evidence that they can, but they still believe it.
December 5th, 2020 at 6:26 AM ^
There is and and still pretty cool

They may not get into the B1G championship game, but they will still get a game against Wiscy most likely, whom they'll beat, and also probably get a playoff bid. The playoff committee doesn't care about conference champions or number of games played, they want the best 4 and think OSU is one of them. They'll get blocked from the B1G championship, but will get their shot at a NC if they win out, which is all they really want.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
Which will be an advantage of course for OSU. Football is a game of attrition and they will have less wear and tear than the field.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
Bama is going to nuke the field. If you've watched the games this year, they are playing the best football in the country right now and it's not close.
Last year's OSU team was much better (specifically on defense) than this year's team, but they choked against Clemson - again. Of course, anything can happen, but Clemson, ND, OSU, Florida, Texas A&M, and other contenders look a level below Bama this year.
OSU is obviously a monster program right now, but they've also left a lot of national championship opportunities on the table over the past 15-20 years. Of course I'd love to swap places with them, but it also must be painful for their fanbase to have squandered some truly great talent and teams.
I do wonder sometimes if the weak B1G leaves OSU a bit untested going into the playoff every year.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
OSUs fan base is grumbling about their defense right now.
December 4th, 2020 at 8:03 PM ^
Huh, I wonder who is missing on that side of the ball vs last year....
Could it be.... HAFLEY!!??!??
Brian: "But guyz thats dumb he's never been a HC until now don't be retarded"
Oh hey yeah, ever heard of a guy named Ryan Day? How about Dabo? Idk, seems if you get the right guy it works out just damn fine, and if there's anyone who has all the markings of "the right guy", it's Hafley.
December 4th, 2020 at 10:28 PM ^
Never trust a guy who plays an Epiphone.
December 5th, 2020 at 9:55 AM ^

It's not a coach, it's Chase Young, Damon Arnette, Jeff Okaduh, Davon Hamilton, Jordan Fuller, etc.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
From the CFP committee perspective, a win for OSU vs Wisconsin is probably better than a W vs Northwestern, especially after their loss to MSU last weekend. I could see a situation where OSU is 6-0 and there best win is by one touchdown at home to Indiana. I assume Wisconsin beats Indiana at home this weekend and jumps Northwestern in next week's playoff rankings, so if they will be a solid second W for OSU.
December 4th, 2020 at 8:12 PM ^
They should not have bailed on Illinois, F’em!
December 4th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
So what do you guys think. If the B1G Presidents could see where this thing is ending up do they still vote to play this season?
I wonder.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:39 PM ^
My guess is no.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:41 PM ^
How much money did they get from ABC/ESPN for the handful of games that were played?
December 4th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
Presidents? No. Tv execs, plenty of ADs, many "fans", and many coaches and players?! Yep.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:46 PM ^
My guess is yes at this stage. They would have been getting crushed by public opinion throughout and it would have been used against Big Ten Football regardless.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
Anyone who was paying attention knew this was the inevitable outcome; it's a testament to these schools and players that a lot of them didn't have outbreaks until late. But I think we're going to see a lot of programs lose way more money than they thought they would this year, possibly even more than if they had just delayed or cancelled the season.
I worry about basketball and hockey as well, especially since hockey seems to be the youth sport with the highest concentration of cases.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:43 PM ^
I’ll actually go the other direction: it will turn out to be a mistake to have delayed the start. They squandered the window before this winter time case numbers ramp up started. Eight game season, even with a bye week, starting at the normal timing would have been done already.
December 4th, 2020 at 8:11 PM ^
Yeah, they should have started earlier or not started at all. But the choice they made seems to have been the worst possible decision.
December 4th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
Agreed. Once they made that decision to cancel they should have stuck to their guns. Some would have blasted them for it, but others would have admired their commitment to safety.
Their decision to reverse tack after a month had already gone by way the stupidest one they could have made and was the worst of both worlds.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:54 PM ^
The B10 reversing their decision after they had cancelled the season was monumental stupidity. End of story.
December 4th, 2020 at 10:53 PM ^
Is this even a question? Unless a major COVID lawsuit is awarded somewhere down , even a single game had a positive NPV compared to no games. Money trumps literally everything.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:40 PM ^
I still don't understand why Fields came back for this bs season.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:47 PM ^
Because he saw an opportunity to win a Heisman Trophy and a National Championship. A rare opportunity at a lasting legacy.
December 4th, 2020 at 9:30 PM ^
I don’t fault OSU at all. They have a great team and want to win it all. the program owes it to the players to fight for a championship since they make millions off those young men.
December 4th, 2020 at 10:25 PM ^
Maybe because when he made that decision Fields, like the rest of the country, had absolutely no clue how devastating the COVID pandemic would be.
He’s a star QB, he’s not a wizard who can see the future.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:41 PM ^
Put this in the other post;
Big Ten.. Simple Call it now
Minnesota and Michigan out for 12/12
OSU @ Maryland
Rutgers @ Nebraska reschedule
New teams get screwed. oh well
Then we're no the "bad guy"
and 100% if the shoe was on the other foot OSU would cancel and laugh about it for decades
December 4th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
If they needed to cancel this week the 21 days won't be up by next Saturday. There was never a chance we were playing.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:01 PM ^
What I don't get then is OSU apparently being able to play considering they had to cancel last weekend. I know there are differences between positive rates of coaches/staff and players in terms of how long you have to sit, but they do seem to be playing a little fast and loose with the timing as well.
But yeah, if UM misses this week it's unlikely they'll be able to play next week. Not that it'll matter to OSU's chances at a NC title shot.
December 4th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
You do make a good point, it's unclear what the actual "rules" are.
December 5th, 2020 at 10:20 AM ^
OSU has a subset of rules within the Big Ten Rule book.
December 4th, 2020 at 9:25 PM ^
We will see who shows up on the field for OSU tomorrow. Anyone involved in their outbreak (tested positive) can't play this week or next week.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:46 PM ^
No games past Thanksgiving weekend have been some what common for Michigan football since 2008.
Also if this OSU scrimmage doesn't get played ,
December 5th, 2020 at 9:59 AM ^
What stop at 2008, when the championship game wasn’t played until 2011? May as well say ever.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Some of the best news of the year
December 4th, 2020 at 6:49 PM ^
For me, not playing the game represents optimism.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:54 PM ^
Darn.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:57 PM ^
Oh bummer. Now these kids won’t be subjected to complete and utter humiliation in a loss that sets the program back five to ten years by itself.
I know the players and coaches want to play this game. As they should, and I’ll never fault them for that. They’re competitors. But as a fan with no real vested incentive in Michigan being on the field to play this game, its my opinion that it’s in their best interest to miss this game.
There is no hope of an upset. None. All this team would be in store for in this game is pain, and quite possibly the worst loss in the history of the rivalry. That’s not an exaggeration. The disparity between both teams is that big, and Ryan Day will be out looking for style points. He will run up the score and get to 100 if he can. He knows he’s got to try and make up ground for missing games and his secondary looking awful against IU.
Whatever Michigan has left in its corner, not just this year but as a program, they stand to lose all of it by playing this game.
December 4th, 2020 at 6:57 PM ^
Was this posted here? I may have missed it. If this turns out to be the case it will be the most Big Ten thing the Big Ten has ever done.
