Meyer Offers Dawson
ohio offers 2013 OT commit David Dawson. Will this count as a head to head recruiting win for Hoke? Thought this was good for a laugh on a Friday night.
Depends whether you consider Brionte Dunn a loss for Hoke.
Kinda the point I was making, no?
Do you get jokes?
more of a valid point than a joke
Actually, it was my question in the OP that was the joke that wasn't... um... gotten. Fans get so fixated on ridiculous "head to head" recruiting "wins" or "losses." It's silly.
Scouting and offering the right guys is way more important than winning mythical offseason recruiting battles (SEE Notre Dame football, 1994-PRESENT). OSU fans are going to continue regretting that their coaching staff "lost" guys like Omameh, Fitz (120 yards on 20 carries against OSU), Ryan, and most recently Frank Clark, whether they got an offer or not.
Then again, if their current coach had given a young dreadlock'd gentleman a chance to play QB, he'd probably still be at UF and who knows where they would be right now. Perhaps it's all some kind of complex strategery I can't even understand.
Set that letter on fire! (Pics please.)
Is it even commitable? Also, with him now offering a flip should be coming real fast at least according to bucknuts on message boards. I mean you all realize Urb's NEVER loses a recruit he offers or wants.
If you don't judge OSU fans based on Bucknuts, we won't judge Michigan fans based on mlive. Deal?
But can we still judge MSU based on RCMB?
But only if you also include the Enlightened Spartan.
Fair request but the difference:
The everyday Michigan fan goes to MGoBlog; Mlive gets the outliers. The everyday OSU fan goes to Bucknuts; Eleven Warriors gets the outliers.
And yes, the everyday MSU fan goes to RCMB with The Only Colors getting the outliers.
I hereby endorse continued judgment on this front.
Dawson should mail him Billy Price's shredded t-shirt from the Columbus NFTC with a note: "I did the same thing to your letter"
If Urbz wants to waste his time by offering a solid UM commit, that's fine with me.
In all seriousness, Urbz does have some intriguing selling points that U-M doesn't . With Michigan, he is part of an AMAZING o-line class. With OSU, he would be THE guy because their current o-line draw sucks. It really depends on how he sees the positives and negatives of each situation.
Luckily, David seems like a bright, young man and chose wisely long ago.
For a kid hellbent on early playing time, being THE guy comes into play. I get what you are saying on the focus, especially pertaining to WRs, but certain players want to be the hero, the star, the focus of the team. It's hard to match that vibe when you are one of five blue-chippers on one recruiting cycle of one position group.
#pathetic
Stay out of my territory.
Walt = Hoke; Redneck = Meyer.
sure UM O-line vs Ohio D-line looks to be a trench war, but we're also bringing in stud d-linemen too...seems not so much for Ohio on the o-line.
I wonder if this rather late offer means that the plans to clone Evan Lisle to beef up OL recruiting for 2013 have somehow gone south. All that Meyer is doing now is cementing his position as a bit of a recruiting poseur in the Big Ten.
I thought I read somewhere that an OSU recruit said they were done recruiting O-line. Meyer doesn't seem like a guy who would lie to a recruit though, so it was probably a load of crap.
Piss off, urban myth.
You nailed it. He knows landing Dawson is a long shot, but he want to get some face time at Cass Tech. Urban said he wants to successfully recruit in Michigan and Cass appears to have the most talent these days.
I can understand why he would want to get in the door at Cass, but I think it is pretty much useless on his part. It is our strongest pipeline and Wilcher will do everything he can to make sure his kids don't go to Ohio. Honestly I hope Meyer spends a lot of energy trying to recruit Cass because all it will do is waste a lot of time they could spend on other guys.
For obvious reasons, Michigan fans are blissfully unaware of a offensive line recruiting battle going on at Cass Tech for the services of Dennis Finley. Finley is a 6-7 300 lb OT who is rated as a mid 3 star on all the recruiting sites except ESPN where he was awarded a fourth star (just barely). Given the fact that most of the OL talent in the Midwest has already committed elsewhere, Urban Meyer is going after Finley pretty hard at this point I believe. Michigan State wants him too as well as Wisconsin and Illinois and some lower tier schools too.
Unfortunately, there's just not enough room for every Cass Tech kid at Michigan. Cough, cough....Delano Hill.
I agree with your general sentiment... there is just too much talent at Cass Tech for all of them to go to Michigan. It's probably just a matter of time before another Cass Tech kid picks ohio. It's similar to the state of ohio. To expect Meyer to "lock down" ohio is kind of absurd simply because there is so much talent there, even if Meyer wanted all of them, he wouldn't have enough scholarships.
But we're not there yet with Cass Tech. Your examples are both kids that did not get Michigan offers. It will be interesting to see what happens with next year's class, as it seems the top Cass Tech kids for 2014 are more interested in looking around than in previous classes. I sometimes worry that our confidence in this pipeline might be a little unrealistically high.
Also, there won't be enough room for all three (or even two) of the Cass Tech LBs, especially if 2014 OH Ferns commits.
It's just bad luck sometimes; there probably would have been room for Hill in this class if we didn't take three probable safeties in 2012 (Clark, Gant, Wilson). There would have been room for Gibbs if Poggi didn't commit, and we didn't take a flier on Willie Henry last year.
But at least the Cass guys are getting solid D1 schollies at BCS schools; hopefully, they won't end up biting us in the a$$ in the coming years.
An offer, you say? Wake me up when it's commitable.
It's commitable as Gary Busey.
Florida is rumored to have picked up six 2014 commits at their Friday Night Lights camp today. Sorry for the threadjack.
Trevor Darling, Dalvin Cook, J.C. Jackson, Jacob McCrary, Joseph Yearby, & Kain Daub off the board for '14. All are Top 100 types from Fla.
My point with last tweet, NCAA tried to slow the recruiting process. They failed. It is speeding up, rapidly. More to come with FNL at UF.
I guess Hoke needs to move up the BBQ.
The analyst made it sound like they were all UF commits, but they are commits to FSU and other schools. Sorry about the confusion.
Trevor Darling- Miami
Joseph Yearby, J.C. Jackson and Jacob McCrary- Florida St.
Kain Daub- LSU
Dalvin Cook- Clemson
We're going to get more commits than that at the BBQ. Safety first, gentlemen.
It was.
and can't keep his crank in his pants. This clown will quit coaching OSU in four years.
I wonder if this is just Meyer trying to destabilize the Dawson situation after the drama a few weeks ago.
What drama?
Dawson said he was going to camp at Florida. Michigan fanbase flipped shit. Rumors of a possible decommitment flew. He talked to Hoke, cancelled the Florida trip, and reaffirmed his commitment for the seventy-eleventh time. All is well.
Wasn't a receiver, was an OG. But then they picked up a 4 star TE later, Josh McNeil, who Buckeye fans for the longest time claimed was their's until a couple monhts ago.
Ended about the same time as Marcus Baugh's commitment around early April. Buckeye fans were more confident about Mike Heuerman than they were about McNeil. Once Baugh committed McNeil stopped showing interest because he "didn't feel welcomed anymore."
