M Remains #2 in BBall AP Poll
https://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll/2019/9
9 first place votes.
Also, Arizona St drops out and Nebraska moves in. UCLA officially fires Alford.

I am good with not being #1 until the end of March.

April?
December 31st, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
And May - November
December 31st, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
It's a huge PR boon for the program to sit #1 in the rankings
December 31st, 2018 at 9:44 PM ^
#2 is good too.
My wife was impressed, and she's a Dukie.

B1G slate resumes Thursday with psu coming to town and Indiana on Sunday. Crisler is becoming a crazy atmosphere.
December 31st, 2018 at 12:54 PM ^
This is always something that annoyed me earlier in Beilein's tenure, the fans finally understand and respect how great this program is.
December 31st, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
There is zero excuse not to sellout every game. Crisler is an amazing atmosphere. I was there for UNC and Purdue. The place was rocking!
December 31st, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
How about the shitty parking? That's my excuse.

Wondering what the coaches seem to be concerned about when voting for Michigan at #4. Are there a handful who think Belein is gimmicky or something?
December 31st, 2018 at 1:09 PM ^
These next two games will be huge tests for us. We've seemingly regressed a bit these last few games since Northwestern, but hopefully that was just due to the holidays, playing once a week, and lack of motivation against mediocre opponents. Penn St will be a nice team to play to transition in to conference play and Indiana will be our first real conference test. They're ranked #25 right now and have some talented guys. Curious to see if we put Poole or Simpson on Langford and we're gonna need Teske and Livers to lock down Juwan Morgan
December 31st, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
Not Matthews on Langford?
December 31st, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
I guess he's an option too. Was viewing Langford as a guard, but he is 6'5". Having too many quality defenders is a good issue to have
December 31st, 2018 at 3:04 PM ^
With the last four games in view, I'm glad we get PSU before IU.
December 31st, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Let’s beat psu first

If Iowa misses the Tournament or flames out early yet again, does Iowa think about bringing back Alford?
December 31st, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
Why? Alford's a downgrade from McCaffrey
December 31st, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
Nostalgia? I admit it doesn't make a lot of sense as I think Alford is a junk coach, though I've likewise never been impressed with McCaffrey. His sideline tantrums are very juvenile.
December 31st, 2018 at 1:53 PM ^
I always thought McCaffrey did well enough at Iowa, all things considered, whereas a poor man's Steve Alford is still Steve Alford.
December 31st, 2018 at 1:37 PM ^
McCaffrey is a good coach. Just has to get his defense figured out and they're a top 25 team
December 31st, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Iowa is going on three seasons of having a garbage D. I don't think it's something that's magically going to change.
December 31st, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
I hope you see the irony of this statement, given the thread and blog on which we post.
December 31st, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
Yes, I realized the irony when I made the post, though I'm not aware of McCaffrey making any meaningful changes to address Iowa's porous defense.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
Thank God there is only one Yacklich
December 31st, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
Iowa fans loathe him. Also he's a shitty coach.
December 31st, 2018 at 1:40 PM ^
I can't wait for the IU game!.
Old-time, lockdown basketball!
December 31st, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Glad to see UCLA fire Alford so I can go back to hating them.
December 31st, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
Alford being there gave me just another reason to hate UCLA. Dude's a tool.
December 31st, 2018 at 6:16 PM ^
Alford being there made you like UCLA?! Dude is a shit coach and a slimeball recruiter.
December 31st, 2018 at 2:12 PM ^
I love being a basketball school now.
December 31st, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
I'm with you Craptain. I remember watching Michigan get blown out by Purdue as a student in the Amaker days. How far we've come.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
I remember the Duke fans in Cameron mocking Avery Queen . . . "Little point guard, clap-clap-clap. Little point guard, clap-clap-clap." . . . on the way to beating us by 52 points.
Fun times.
January 1st, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
Funny, I remember the same thing about Avery Queen only I remember the chant (can’t remember against which team) as being Ga-ry Cole-man.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
Basketball team needs to get its edge back. The re-start of B1G play should be enough to get them going. Let’s roll.
December 31st, 2018 at 9:49 PM ^
They have some Ohio State football in them. They just don't play well until they are interested.
December 31st, 2018 at 4:53 PM ^
This is fun but not especially good news in the long run. Puts a huge target on their back and only one position to climb. Not much of an opportunity to show "improvement," if that makes a difference at the end of the year...
Much better for high ranking at the end of the season, though it's great that they are winning against the likes of Villanova, UNC, and Purdue. Now there can't be any letups (except maybe against Rutgers) like the last three games through the rest of the schedule.
Have you ever seen the B1G occupy four of the five ranking positions from #21 to #25? That won't last long! Crazy.
