Lions vs Bears (Thanksgiving Day drinking thread)

Lions or Bears...who are you picking?

Might as well make it a drinking thread as well. If anything out there makes me want to drink, it's the Lions and the in-laws.

GO Lions!

Traditional Thanksgiving morning. My wife making a brunch and drinking Veuve Clicquot Rose...I might be sipping some myself.

Thanksgiving dinner is prepped, naps around noon AZ time, and then turkey time.

Happy Thanksgiving MGoBlog!!

Go Lions!, but picking Bears to win.

It's kinda funny to hear everyone jumping off the Bears bandwagon because Mitch Trubisky is hurt, like he is Aaron Rodgers 2.0.

Enjoying one of the burgers that I made last night as I settle in for this one. The bulk of the dinner is prepped and ready to go in the oven at various times, depending on what the dish is.

Never quite felt much appreciation for this tradition. It's the kind of thing that would make sense in an alternate universe where the Lions are a good franchise rather than the red-headed stepchild of the league. It feels a bit like as if ABC hyped a NC-Duke football game as a big national TV broadcast...every year.

I’m going to take my boys to a Lions game this year. We’ve never been to Ford Field—or even Detroit—despite a fair amount of trips to Ann Arbor. (We don’t have a strong NFL allegiance; we root for former Wolverines—and the boys like various teams based on important stuff such as uniform colors and where great players have played.)

Any good parking/gameday tips? Places to avoid? We’re mobile, there are 6 of us, and I’m cheap, if that helps.

Thanks in advance, and GO BLUE!

There is quite a bit of decent parking up and down Montcalm, St. Antoine and Madison that isn't too far from Ford Field, and there are some City Of Detroit lots closer to Woodward if you're willing to walk a couple blocks. You don't really have to worry about places to avoid around Ford Field and Comerica Park, and there are plenty of decent places to eat in that area too.

i'm a lions fan.  i will cheer for them and hope they win but am completely at ease with them losing because they are pretty much the washington generals of the nfl.

The Lions are the greatest losing team in nfl history.  can piss away any lead with any amount of time on the clock including 0:00 to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory.

I am unwilling to watch the lie downs in the week of The Game.

I will just drink happily and follow the PBP here on MGo such as it is.

I have not eaten yet and the aroma of Turkey is killing me. Time for a cheese and meat board.

Edit: Blame the wrong choice of words on the drink I am sipping.

After Parkey plonked the uprights four times in one game a couple of weeks ago, they stopped trying extra points. Maybe that made a small amount of sense with Trubisky, but it's not a percentage move when A) you've downgraded to Rex Grossman (I mean, Chase Daniel), B) your opponent is expecting it, and has done extra work on your goal-line plays and C) it forces you to exhaust your good goal-line plays rather than save them for regular offense.

The bottom line is that if you don't think your kicker is naturally a 95-98% kicker on extra points indoors, you should examine the scrap heap.

That is not what happened. Nagy's playing aggressive because he wants the offensive to believe in itself. Parkey has been perfect since that game.

And Chase Daniel is not Rex Grossman. I don't even get that comparison. Grossman was a talented first stringer with small hands and a fumbling problem. Daniel is a solid passer who has been a career back up behind great players on solid teams.

And Nagy's playbook is large, and Daniel has been with him for years.

The bottom line: your hot take is based on not watching the Bears but on listening to talking heads. Or, if you were a Bears fan, you're one of those dudes who likes to quickly hate players just because that's a Bears fan thing to do.

Oh, I don't hate the Bears. I've watched them many times lately. We can argue what Nagy is doing with the extra points, but I don't agree with your take at all. They aren't children.

Daniel has never earned the starting role because he has a noodle arm. It's just what it is. A solid backup who you don't want to see starting for any length of time. He knows the game, he's somewhat mobile. He can't make many of the throws NFL starters need to make. That's all.

I poked fun with the Grossman comment not because they're all that similar (aside from both being small, Grossman was not mobile at all, and his arm isn't that weak), but because the Bears made it to a Super Bowl with him and he was a weak link in that team, so that represents something to Bears nation.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the holiday. Turkey's just about ready here.

Lions have one offensive weapon and a terrible defense. Bears will run away with this in the second half.

Lions need to add talent at all levels on defense as well as G, TE,WR, and RB. They need speed.

Run defense has looked much better last three weeks which is a good thing.

So I've watched the second half now, and its the most NFL I've watched all season - by a mile.  And I have to say, I haven't missed it.  I'm completely bored...  Think I'd rather watch some nondescript MACtion...

Disappointed at how dull the NFL actually is.

Thing is the Rams-Chiefs game is the other extreme of the spectrum. The NFL basically has fixed the rules to create a pro version of the Big 12. That game legit had that 'dink and dunk' vibe that I expect to see in a Texas Tech v Oklahoma State game. I don't know if I really want that either.
