Hello: Jack Doyle (Preferred Walk-On LB)
Per Allen Trieu:
#Michigan has added Grosse Pointe South (Mich.) LB Jack Doyle as a preferred walk-on.
Not much info out there. According to Scout, Doyle had 115 tackles (88 solo), three pass breakups, three sacks and 23 tackles for loss as a sophomore. {Edit: Jack will be a member of the 2013 class}
Probably more info behind pay-walled articles.
Welcome to the Maize & Blue Family, Jack! Go Blue!
I previewed him in February 2012 (link) along with a lot of in-state kids. I assumed somebody would give him a shot, but not Michigan (not with a scholarship, anyway).
Sounds like a pretty good pick-up for a preferred walk-on spot.
Bienvenido Jack!
Attitude, Effort, Toughness. Always a spot on the roster for a kid like that.
GO BLUE DEVILS!

'71 GPS grad here.
I think that makes you senior grand marshal of South grads on this site. I'm thinking it must've just been "The High" when you started.
I know I've mentioned it before, but '00 grad myself.
I bet you know that one guy that I know.
I know several people. Which one of them do you also know?
The guy with the hair who does that thing with the stuff.
Brian Cook? Nope, never met him.
that's "Senior Really Old Guy Grand Poobah" of South Grads. I don't recall reading you were a grad; I wonder if I knew either of your parents.
Old GPHS split into its North and South components in 1968.
Neither of my folks went to South nor even grew in GP. Both are Catholic school products. If you ever knew them, it would have to have been sometime in the last 25-30 years as we didn't move to GP til I was 3.
Im going to give a sincere attempt to be excited about this... After all, Jordan Kovacs was once a walk-on.
AFAIK, he didn't have any FBS offers.
I sense a move to FB in the near future. 6'2 215.
He'll be a redshirt Fr. the year Houma and Kerridge are Juniors. His decision to walk-on at UM may pay off in the long run
He looks like a middle linebacker to me. I could maybe see him as a blocking tight end, but I think fullback would be a little bit of a stretch. We also have Wyatt Shallman coming in, who I think is a FB/H-back type, so I think that position is pretty well populated for the next several years.
I'm not disagreeing with that, but if he's a better LB and you're equally stocked at MIKE and FB, then you might as well put the kid at his best position. And, in my opinion, that would be linebacker.
I used to live in Grosse Pointe, when I was in America. My wife also went to Grosse Pointe South. It's not a cool story bro, but I just wanted to mention it because I miss that place.
welcome to the family!
We knew Doyle on our League - MAC Blue, and he was a Conference Player Of The Year. I know he was also Division 1, 1st Team All state. Should be a great addition for Michigan. Go Blue
Welcome Mr. Doyle. Here's hoping he plays hard, impresses, and earns a scholarship down the road!
He is also a very good leader. He was voted captain of both his baseball and football teams.
May your career be at Michigan be productive on the field and in the classroom!
Not sure why he doesn't have any D1 offers after watching the highlights. Welcome aboard Jack!
When I was a kid, I played in the MAC at East Detroit. Considering he's from GPS, I'm sure his folks will have no problem footing the bill for his tuition while he trys to work toward a scholly.
Great pick-up for a walk-on. Looks like a solid player.
Look forward to seeing you in the Big House, Jack.
When you see him play, you'll know why Michigan wanted him. Great character and a natural leader. Humble, strong and intellegent. -The complete package.
