Harbaugh had a presser today

Some notable things from the presser:

Harbaugh says the team has had some positive tests since September

Harbaugh says "Gemon Green has done a really good job" and says Sammy Faustin has moved to CB. Jalen Perry and DJ Turner are competing for second CB position.

Jim says "Joe's been running with the ones -- naming a daily starter is" a day-to-day thing. Says it's hard to name him a starter due to COVID.

On Joe Milton: "Showed a lot of great things. Joe's been running with the ones. He's made a lot of strides. Getting a lot of reps, as well as Cade McNamara who's closed all gaps as well. "Really good command of the offense. Shown a real savviness and a lot of talent. Been really good between the receivers and Joe and Cade.

"The two tackles are experienced guys -- Karsen Barnhart, also consider him a starter as well. Chuck Filiaga has made a lot of strides." Harbaugh mentioned Hayes and Mayfield as the starting tackles. Says Andrew Vastardis will start at center.

HELL YEAH, WALK-ON!  Vastardis is the definition of a Michigan Man.  If I remember correctly, he was a Maths major and is now getting a Master's is Physiology.

From Oct 1 SI article,

"Andrew has been doing really good things so far," Stueber said. "He's a really smart guy. He's trying to go to med school right now, so he's a very, very high motor guy. He knows a lot about the offense. He's lost a good amount of weight, so he's moving really well right now. He's able to pull, move, get up to the linebacker, deliver the blow, so he's doing really good things. As far as an older guy, he's kind of a father figure for a lot of the younger guys. He knows what he's doing. He knows how to act. He knows how to carry himself, so kind of a model for a lot of the younger guys to look at, and I can't wait to see how he performs this season."

Indeed, basically definition of Michigan Man.

"Hard to name him a starter due to covid."?

Who else would he name?  And we are only a few days from their road trip?

Gamesmanship plays a part I guess, but it's also a realistic view on how any day you could have a player test positive and be shut down for 21 days. He can't name Joe the starter for Minnesota because he honestly doesn't know if Joe will be available to him this weekend or not. All it takes is a positive test between now and Saturday, or a false one Saturday morning.

Pressers are all on video now. Normally immediately available, or live streamed on twitter for anyone to consume.

By the time mgoblog is able to transcribe, edit, & post, this stuff is old news, and already been posted/discussed/bitched about it not being on the front page on the mgoboard. IIRC the cost benefit analysis of paying someone to ask a very specific question once every four weeks that is answered with coach-speak no longer made sense to the blog runners.

All I know is coronavirus needs to stay away from our defensive backfield!

Unless of course it makes the starters green Hill Green and green Warren... That was an interesting proposition. Hill green at viper.

I'm not sure how 30 minutes, once/week, affected anything he's doing prep wise.  He was/is never present for the entire thing - he did the interviews, some other news, talked for a bit, then left.  And it never got in the way of his work or travel.  His schedule seems pretty strict...

This complaint is like saying the spring trips interfere with team prep, also.
