Grosse Pointe South 2022 CB Will Johnson
Michigan legacy (son of Deon Johnson, 1990-1994) was offered a year ago. Mlive offers this on the 4* composite CB:
Anyone out there with an opinion on this kid? I saw him play last year and he didn't knock my socks off, but that was just him not getting a lot of action at CB. The team they played didn't throw at him, but they didn't throw the ball at anyone. He didn't look super fast at WR, so I just don't know.
I mean if you saw him last season, you saw him playing as a high school sophomore. Probably a pretty big reason he didn’t knock your socks off.
He's real f***ing good and it doesn't even look like he's trying half the time. He's just kind of going through the motions at WR and still beats everyone.
I don't know if corner is his best position in the long term. He looks like a guy who would be better playing safety and roaming, but with the way Michigan plays defense, he could be a shutdown corner in college. Length, speed, physicality, and ball skills? Yes, please.
Saw him play quite a bit and Magnus as usual is spot on. He has that look of going through the motions in some instances, but between his long striding, playing both ways, and being a sophmore sometimes its just tough to tell. South had a couple very good (HS) slot dots and a QB that ran around A LOT. Between all that, your typical outside WR is not doing normal route running and your QB is not doing a typical drop back and gun it to the WR thing. I saw him do a lot of catching balls that were chucked up in his direction (breaking to the ball, high pointing, body control etc) He returned a couple punts for TDs and returned lots of them for lots of yards. On D, he was rarely tested (maybe fell asleep at times because of that) but was still very good all year. Only time i thought someone got the better of him was the Cass Tech playoff game. But they were also a run around and chuck it up type O and had a crap load of athletes to send out. So he got beat to the spot a couple times in that game. Overall, he is really good.

For a QB/WR comparison, just think about how Shea Patterson was probably not the best guy to throw deep balls to Donovan Peoples-Jones.
What should I title my threads?
Please make your thread titles as informative as possible: "Justin Feagin" is bad. "Justin Feagin leaving the team?" is good.
Sorry. I was so excited to see a highly ranked Blue Devil I got ahead of myself.
Buddy, you’re no Magnus.
I've read Magnus' stuff. I've been on the same message boards as Magnus. OP, you're no Magnus.
247 has him as the #16 player nationally in his class! Now I have no idea if he will stick that high, but I'm sure he will be a name we all become very familiar with as he goes through the process.
He won’t. Spindler and Dellinger were both 5 stars at this time last year.

JJ McCarthy was a 5* at this time last year. He still is a 5* today. Some players will stick and others won't.
Did the OP claim to be Magnus? Did I miss something? I didn't click the link. Thank you OP for not posting on the message board the top 50 stories your grandma read to you while falling asleep.
grandma got run over by a reindeer. she never got the chance to read to me...[sniffle]
Because she fell asleep while reading to me, none of them were memorable.
It's usually the people that never provide any content that complain the most.
Well, my comment was just in jest and obviously referring to the "you're no Jack Kennedy" line. People are mentioning this because Magnus usually has clear info about what the post is and provides some useful info before possibly providing a link. It would just be nice if the OP said something besides providing a link. Not a huge problem, but at the same time, it's not that hard to literally add a couple words to the title or a sentence to the post. At least it was obvious it's about a recruit and doesn't just say "Will Johnson".
Actually, Magnus just made a post that clearly illustrates this. "Crystal balls trending for" doesn't take a lot of effort.
I didn't think the comment required explanation.

Don Brown has others higher on his board. Apparently he got dinged for being in-state and highly ranked.

As a GPS grad from wayyy back in the olden days when the only notable sports at South were country club activities like swimming and tennis, it's a sign of how things have changed—for the better—to read about Blue Devils like Johnson.
Did you run track and graduate in '72?
My wife's a Blue Devil. Beautiful school.
