The Game After Indiana Effect
This is an interesting trend for the Big 10 teams the game after playing Indiana:
Michigan
Oct 2 @ Indiana- W 42-35
Oct 9 vs. MSU- L 17-34 (Michigan was a 3 point favorite)
Ohio State
Oct 9 vs. Indiana- W 38-10
Oct 16 @ Wisconsin- L 18-31 (OSU was a 4 point favorite)
Illinois
Oct 23 vs. Indiana- W 44-13
Oct 30 vs. Purdue- W 44-10
Northwestern
Oct 30 @ Indiana- W 20-17
Nov 6 @ Penn State- L 21-35
Iowa
Nov 6 @ Indiana- W 18-13
Nov 13 @ Northwestern- L 17-21 (Iowa was a 10.5 point favorite)
Wisconsin
Nov 13 vs Indiana- W 83-20
Nov 20 @ Michigan- TBD..
OVERALL: Big 10 teams are 1-4 in the game after they play Indiana, with 3 outright losses by favorites in Vegas. You could also say that Big Ten teams are 0-4 in this game against teams that aren't Purdue. This might not mean anything but let's hope it does and it continues.

I'm more of a probability guy, so I'm not a huge fan of this, but I applaud the effort. Its more probable that B10 teams be closer to .500 overall the week after Indiana, and a Wisconsin win would swing that number back to the middle.
Otherwise its some sort of Indiana jinx, and I'm just not a superstition guy.

I would expect teams to be under .500 after playing Indiana since they're not playing Indiana again.

Or that teams just happen to schedule a good opponent (MSU, Wisco, PSU, NW) the week after they played Indiana. All 4 of those teams are upper half in the B10 this year.

Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa were all favorites in those games though. And not only did they lose but they were 20, 17, and 14.5 points away from the spread, respectively.

I'll take any good mojo we can get against the Badgers !!!!!

discovery. May the trend be our friend and continue.
I am looking for one to two upsets in our last 2 games. I blow off Purdue as a non-event for many reasons. Look at every team in the nation and you'll see very, very few have not had a tough road game.....or two.

Hopefully Wisconsin got all the points for last week and this coming week out of their system... 80+! The defense and Rodriguez had better prepare appropriately; Bielema has no intention of doing anything except throwing haymakers all game.
Here's to hoping we respond in kind.

Michigan is 1-0 vs. Wisconsin in odd numbered years of Rodriguez's tenure!
Wisconsin has never beaten us in 2010!
Are there more I'm forgetting? The evidence is piling up!

You just broke my snark meter.
November 14th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
Did you mean odd numbered as in year 1? You could say in even years such as 2008.
November 14th, 2010 at 1:09 PM ^
Yeah, as in year 1. As you pointed out, the ambiguity points to other, similarly incredible statistics!
November 14th, 2010 at 1:25 PM ^
Wisconsin has never beaten Rich Rod in the Big House!
November 14th, 2010 at 2:15 PM ^
Brett Bielema is 0-4 in the state of Michigan.

Nice dig up. I'm sure we'll see a much more determined Michigan team against Wisconsin this week. Playing spoiler can be fun.

Who would have thought that Indiana after starting 4-0 would have a worse B10 record than Minnesota? Ah college football....
November 14th, 2010 at 2:17 PM ^
Given that Minnesota went to bowl games in 2008 and 2009 while IU did not - and recruited better talent over that time - it's really not surprising at all. What is more surprising is that a veteran Minnesota team has had such a bad season.

we are 3-0 in the state of Indiana this year.

we are 7-3 against schools in states that begin with any letter of the alphabet

Bielema has never won a game in the state of Michigan while at Wisconsin

think of the movie "Little Big League" with all these stats with that Twins announcer who had the funny stat about batting average against left handed pitchers faced at home for the first time in the last month of the season? That's what I thought of
November 14th, 2010 at 3:15 PM ^
But how do teams fare after playing Purdue?
November 14th, 2010 at 6:57 PM ^
Pretty well, as long as their QB doesn't lose vision in one eye.
