Dinich - Decision still planned for today
Don't like that legality part...
November 10th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
The longer he waits, the worse it's gonna be for him.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
I would bet that it's looking a lot like Dave Brandon's freakout over Shane Morris' concussion, over there. Brandon's crony army of idiots worked through the night picking apart literally every word of their announcement, which wound up being transparently cynical and hilariously unprofessional anyway.
As in, ChatGPTitti knows he f'ed up, but is too much of a narcissistic coward to publicly admit to error. But it's likely the letter Michigan sent had its desired effect, basically everyone in the office screaming that they will get a bomb dropped on their heads if he does something. So he's stuck in a hole he dug for himself, slowly melting into a puddle.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
ChatGPTitti? Is that AI generated adult content?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
If "AI" stands for "Artificial Idiocy", sure, OK.
I started calling Petitti that because he basically tried to do what the Internet told him to.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:36 PM ^
Lemme see dem ChatGPTitties

I’m taking no news yet to mean he’s gonna dump a “fine only” press release as close to 5:00 as possible, which keeps the mob of idiots off his back until Monday morning.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:40 PM ^
Or - he defers an investigation to the NCAA and waits until they complete their work on this.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:44 PM ^
Live look at Petitti melting into said puddle
November 10th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
this is probably the best outcome for the league at this point.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^
We're all waiting for Petitti to show us what's in Al Capone's vault.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
It's not legal, so who cares what they say. If they ban him tomorrow I say don't acknowledge the authority, fuck em and show up anyway and let's see if they force him off field. Just imagine how fired up the team would be.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
If the ban happened tomorrow and "they" asked JH to leave the field, it would not shock me if the team left with him.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
As the team should.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
OH hell no. That ends their season. The thing to do is go out and leave no doubt, win it for Jim, win it for the staff, win it for themselves.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
Hopefully he would convince them not too.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
In life they are few things better than telling people to fuck off.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
The B1G legal position weakens by the day. Evidence is now pouring in regarding collusion among other teams that effectively constitutes advance scouting. It sounds like evidence is emerging that other teams have pulled a Stalions.
So now Petitti realizes he's been played and will be highly embarrassed when it becomes clear in court the extent of his cluelessness and of the selective enforcement of the rules. He must be talking to his lawyers non-stop. This is why what was supposed to happen on Monday still hasn't happened on Friday.
Ideal solution IMO are fines. $1million to Michigan for Stalions and also $1 million to OSU, Rutgers and Purdue for advance scouting and collusion. The penalties to the other three schools is a message that Petitti is not getting played or embarrassed anymore.
A man can hope, right?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
The penalty to the B1G should be to start talks so that each school gets paid in proportion to its TV viewership value.
The next move would be to say goodbye to the conference. I just can't imagine how this wound is going to heal.
November 10th, 2023 at 4:03 PM ^
$1 million?!? NFW. The fines should be $10k each signaling how stupid and trivial this all is.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:39 PM ^
If they announce a ban effective immediately today, I’d bet there is a TRO that suspends the ban issued tonight. You cannot tell a team hours before a key game that their coach is suspended.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
F the NCAA
F the B1G

No thanks.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
The officiating tomorrow is going to be some of the most atrocious we've ever seen. And we've seen some pretty atrocious officiating.
I hope Michigan is prepared to go to court over that too.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
If it is that complicated then why force a decision today.
They are probably trying to screw around and wait until the last possible second to make it harder to get the injunction.
Super bush league if that turns out to be true.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
That is exactly what is going on. Wait until 4:59 so that Michigan won't be able to file for a TRO.
TP = coward.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:22 PM ^
Why wouldn't Michigan be able to file a TRO after 4:59pm?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:23 PM ^
While the courts may not be open for business today because of the holiday, there is always a judge available for critical items that occur.
I would bet that whoever is handling the legal work, the DC firm and/or others, have already made arrangements with a court/judge should a TRO be required.
The later this goes, the worse it will look for the B1G should some strong edict be handed down by the Conference.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
Just more evidence of bad faith by Tony the Paper Tiger.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:36 PM ^
Waiting that long to attempt to suspended goes a long way to disprove the "he's a Harvard Law grad, therefore he must know what he's doing here" crowd.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:39 PM ^
Is there a reason they would have to suspend before 5:00? Can't they do it even later if they wanted?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
I would be interested to hear from a lawyer on this but wouldn't a TRO be more likely to be approved if the Big Ten tries to stick this suspension so close to the PSU game?
Do business hours matter when filing a TRO?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:24 PM ^
You can get an emergency TRO but it's a pain in the ass. Waiting until 5pm CT worries me. It's the oldest litigation trick in the book and would be completely insane in this context to screw your golden goose to that extent.
I wonder where we file our TRO if the Big Ten does suspend Harbaugh. If, for whatever reason, they do it in ND-IL the emergency judge is Sara Ellis who is very highly regarded.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
Yes, it would be annoying but I’m sure they’ve prepped for this since off hours TROs happen. And closeness to the game makes the urgency even greater in my view: not a good look in front of the judge if they suspend so late Friday.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:22 PM ^
I imagine there are people sitting outside courtrooms / clerks offices waiting and ready to file whatever they need to to oppose this.
It'll be interesting to see if it takes 1 guy less than 9 months to undue what has been arguably the most powerful conference in collegiate athletics.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
How does mgoblog have so many Lawyers? Or everyone here just loved watching Suits?
Honestly though -- pretty solid responses in comment sections the past few days.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
What else does one do with an LS&A degree?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
I’m still on the other side of this but it wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong today. I think Petitti is looking for the easiest off ramp. The later it drops the less air time it receives because of live game action on tv. He needs to show he’s doing something to appease the mob when he’s really not doing anything. Stay tuned
November 10th, 2023 at 3:36 PM ^
I’m torn on what this means and honestly have no read. This thing has been so mishandled I think trying to figure out their intentions is not likely. It could be this to bury it in Friday afternoon news dump (as best as it could be buried) or it could be just lining things up to suspend or delaying it as long as possible out of spite and anger at UM’s response.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
Agreed. If he caves, this is the way to go if you want to minimize fallout.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:46 PM ^
I'll edit my comment out, since I agreed with you and then posted at the exact moment the 3-game suspension was leaked.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
that's bad news
so -1 for you
November 10th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
Note that she has some weaseling: "still expected" might be "oh it didn't happen because of 'legality involved in the process and documents'" whatever the fuck that means.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
Yeah - WTF does that even mean? The legality involved in the process and documents?!?!?! As in, Petitti is finding out from his lawyers that he doesn't have the authority to take action? As in the B1G is scared shitless about getting sued? What kind of reporting is that?
November 10th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
UPDATE- Big Ten decision is still expected today, but it’s taking longer than expected because of whatever word salad I can use to make me not look even more like an idiot.
Fixed it.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
Theres no way that's a real quote from the big ten. That is an absurdly stupid statement.
If it is a real quote then God bless those big ten lawyers theyre gonna get sent to the kids table
November 10th, 2023 at 3:35 PM ^
Not unlike what the CEO of a startup would tell my client, who was the company's largest lender, when the interest payments were late.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
Well that pretty much guarantees a suspension. What a dick he is and what a fckin joke the BIG is.
November 10th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
It’s almost as if it’s bad idea to rush these things.
And she spelled “illegality” incorrectly.
