championship gear NOT from fanatics/MDen/Dicks

Submitted by drz1111 on February 5th, 2024 at 1:26 PM

Most of the championship gear I’ve been seeing on the big sites is cheap screenprinted crap.  does anyone have a source for better gear - ie, clothes closer in look and feel to the team-issued gear (better materials, embroidered logos, etc).

My cheap stuff from 1997 disintegrated in 5 years but the good stuff is still in good enough shape to wear to games today - would love something like that for this season.  Everything on Fanatics is crap and it looks like they’ve basically monopolized the market.

I ordered some of the Fanatics Jordan gear and the sizing is...inconsistent.  How does Cutter and Buck run size-wise?  I know Peter Millar runs big but wasn't sure about Antigua and C&B.

For a non-clothing option I ordered a game ball from here:

https://biggameusa.com/shop/competitive-footballs/college-footballs/michigan-wolverines/michigan-wolverines-2024-cfp-limited-edition-nike-vapor-elite

It wasn't cheap but it's an awesome souvenir.

Ordered the case from Fanatics for it:

I ordered a license plate frame from fanatics and the quality is shit but goddamn it my car now says I'm a national champion.

I also ordered what I thought was a national championship flag but it turned out to be a beach towel much to my surprise.  I'm going to look great at the neighborhood pool this summer.

Design is a hobby of mine, before you think I'm completely insane (which I might be - I'm just trying to soak this potentially once in a lifetime experience in).

I've shared this elsewhere, but I make my own gear so I can control the quality and design:

I even made some frosted static window clings for my basement windows:

I ordered mine from the CFP Shop. It's not bad, Jordan brand long sleeve t and a medium sized towel. We'll see how it holds up.

I saw a shirt that said "Rolled the Tide, Walked the Dawgs" but I couldn't figure out if the company was legit or not, so I passed, but I did like the shirt.

Only stuff I've gotten from other spots is things like the SI issue, Daily posters and the CFP tickets. All very good stuff but I found plenty of clothes from MDen, Dick's, etc.

I ordered three things in the joy and aftermath of the NCG.  The first was a hoodie i found on Amazon that I could get in like three days so I bought it (had a party at my OSU friends house I needed it for).  Quality is meh to say the least and after one washing it's already fading a bit.

The second two items I got from MDen.  One was a three quarter zip up (which I'm wearing right now at my desk here in Cleveland) and the other was a hat.  Night and day difference in the quality - MDen gear was light years better.

I usually don't buy championship shirts or hats because I either want to wear them all of the time, and they don't last. Or they are cheaply made, and they don't last. I feel better knowing that those shirts will end up clothing kids in a refugee camp somewhere.

I did get a nice 1/4 Zip blue Antigua pullover with a beautiful all embroidered CFP championship logo from M Den. I have not found the same on the interwebs and it is a really nice looking pullover.  They must have it in their catalog. The logo is a side profile winged helmet, CFP logo, national champions in white, MICHIGAN in bold maize. Sharp as heck.

Have the exact same thing, but for the Rose Bowl game. I slightly prefer it to the NCG pullover because it has the Rose Bowl logo, and the championship playoff logo, and the Michigan block M, and because I went to the Rose Bowl. It looks so good, I can wear it most places, sometimes over a button down.

However, I agree that there is definitely a challenge finding well designed, good looking, well wearing apparel.

I don't know on the XL sizing, because I have a 3XL which is perfect. (I am 6'3", and 310 pounds, so not small.) I got the Navy. I absolutely love everything about this. It is now on sale at the Tournament of Roses store at 15% off, so $80. They are out of 3XL, but I might buy a 2nd one at 2XL since I have lost 30 pounds anyway. The other thing for me is that I often will get a tall, but this one is ok without that option.

I don't want to start a new message board thread, but I have a related question. I would like to add a block M or an arch "Michigan" to a couple pieces of clothing.

  1. I have a Columbia watertight jacket in "collegiate Navy." I want to have a simple small block M embroidered/sewn an the alternate chest to the "Columbia" logo and name.
  2. I have an old Champion heavy weight reverse weave sweatshirt with an arch "Michigan" sewn across the front. I'd like to buy the identical sweatshirt. If this isn't made anywhere, has anyone ever had the letters sewn on themselves?

If any of you have had this done, and can give advise on how, please let me know.

Johnnie O charging over 125 for shirts screen printed.  They have great product but the natty logo is so low quality.   Sent it all back. 400  bucks of what appeared to be sweet stuff and turned out to be iron on junk.   Stinks

Please someone talk to me about the Antigua sizing

I've been coveting the Rose Bowl 1/4 zip but hesitant because of sizing

Do they run small or true?

I got some good stuff, some cheap but fun crap, a nice hat or two - the Fanatics heather T is nice but runs small, so I'd really love to know about the Antigua sizing. The Rose Bowl zip just looks so tight, I was jealous of every single person wearing it in the airport on the way home from the Natty...

Take a look at https://drcheesetees.com

He churns out great, comfortable sports related t-shirts with a dose of retro.  Headquartered in A2 and run by an alum and life long Michigan fan.

I just ordered his championship T.  He also has one of Desmond’s catch, the win over OSU and Michigan’s Heisman winners.  Good Pro Detroit selection as well.

I just got this (and the matching tshirt) I really like stuff from this company, and they have really nice shirts.  I have a handful of designs from them, all screen printed.

https://themittenstate.com/collections/university-of-michigan/products/…

I do want to advocate for screen printing though. When done properly, the design should last years and years. If you're buying tshirts, I would absolutely make sure they are screen printed.

If you've bought a shirt online in the last 5 years, and the design really starts to break off the shirt quickly in the Dryer, then the shirt is most likely DTG (direct to garment). If you ever get a shirt and it smells a bit like vinegar, that is DTG.

DTG is cool, and allows people to have 'on-demand' designs and websites- but it is why you see so much untrustworthy shitty t-shirt sites everywhere.

If you're paying $30 a shirt it should last more than a few washes.

Items I still have from the MDen:

'80 gray Michigan sweatshirt with the left sleeve seam starting to separate.

'84 Blue Michigan baseball hat with a cracked plastic adjustment strap in the back. (That was the style.)

'97 National Championship baseball hat.

Michigan Football Helmet purchased in 2014.

2nd Maize fitted baseball hat received this past Christmas. (Still have the 1st Maize baseball cap.)

2023 National Championship fitted baseball hat.

(This is not a advertisement for MDen, just a statement that I prefer their product because they last.)

Also have various hoodies/jersies for hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball. My son wears most of them now.

The slightly higher costs, to me, are worth it.

I got a rose bowl and national championship shirt/sweatshirt from UGP. I like both of them and they seem good quality. They also indirectly support the site (Seth you should also get an affiliate link to the UGP main Michigan store).
