Big ten changing covid protocols
What a joke. Why change this now? It’s clearly because they want to make sure OSU has all their top players back to play Clemson. Fuck all this OSU pandering
December 20th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
It doesn’t matter, Ohio State won’t beat Clemson. I agree they only change rules to benefit OSU, but they’ll still get smoked.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
We may not like it but if the shoe was on the other foot ( we can only dream) do we think the BIG would treat us any different?
December 20th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
Absolutely, yes.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:06 PM ^
The conference is going to do what benefits the conference. If we had a good football team they’d do the same. Unfortunately, we don’t.
December 20th, 2020 at 2:50 PM ^
Yep, and some will point fingers at the B1G but you know how to solve all of the "OSU bias." Start beating them on the field. Plain and simple
December 20th, 2020 at 1:08 PM ^
You think Michigan against another conference in a major game, the B1G wouldn’t do whatever they could do to help Michigan... wow... that’s just an absolutely asinine take
December 20th, 2020 at 1:13 PM ^
Indeed. It appears osu gets all the benefits because they’re usually playing for a title. Michigan is usually playing for the Citrus bowl. No surprise here.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:42 PM ^
The big10 would absolutely cater to any school that was in this position. Michigan included.
The problem is, for any team to get to that position they have to overcome osu & the favoritism throughout the year.
December 20th, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
Or, like I posted above, maybe start beating them more than once every 17 or 18 years. We'd know for sure then. But I guess I'm asking for too much.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
We may not like it but if the shoe was on the other foot ( we can only dream) do we think the BIG would treat us any different?
December 20th, 2020 at 1:13 PM ^
Yes I do. Never underestimate the conference’s ability to fuck Michigan as hard as possible.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:16 PM ^
Michigan does a fine job of tanking itself. It doesn’t need outside assistance.
December 20th, 2020 at 2:14 PM ^
The 2016 OSU game called and wants to chat.
That was an epic fuck job to Michigan.
December 20th, 2020 at 3:43 PM ^
Yes there were some bad calls in that game. We also sound like Penn State fans constantly complaining about the officiating when we should be complaining about our offense.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:55 PM ^
CDC changed protocols from 14 to 10 days
14 + 7 day heart check = 21 - old protocol
now 10 + 7 for 17 day protocol
December 20th, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
I agree but timing is bad.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:11 PM ^
Exactly. CDC made the change on Dec 2. The Big Ten didn’t change their rules until 2 weeks later
December 20th, 2020 at 1:31 PM ^
And they wouldn't have changed them if OSU wasn't in the playoff, which is a fabulous look.
December 20th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
All the BiG is doing is trying to put OSU on equal footing with their competition in the Playoffs. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the new 17 days is still more than the 14 days of the other conferences in the playoffs. And keep in mind, the CDC reduce their requirement to 10 days just recently. But yet, the B1G is catering to OSU. Amazing. They would do the same for any conference member in the playoffs. Well, everybody but PSU. The whole world is out to get them.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
Very bad optics Big Ten. If you were gone to change it you should’ve done weeks ago.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
$cience!!!
December 20th, 2020 at 1:15 PM ^
Just because they didn't change weeks ago is no reason to double down on the mistake and keep the unnecessarily long old rules.
December 20th, 2020 at 2:00 PM ^
Why is it 7 days for the rest of the country but 17 for the Big Ten?
December 20th, 2020 at 12:57 PM ^
This isn’t going to save them, if their play against Northwestern and IU is any indication.
Having 20+ guys out yesterday didn’t cause Fields to go 12 of 27 for 114 yards and two picks.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:01 PM ^
Seems like Fields is terrible when faced with pressure. Both Indiana and NW dialed up pressure and Fields struggled
December 20th, 2020 at 1:24 PM ^
Right on, Fields is terrible against pressure. It had to due to good schemes by the secondary in both cases. Fields will hold on waiting on progressions to break down the defense.
If you play that game too long, OSU will say , ok then let's play man ball and kick your ass.
They hate too be a run orientated scheme with a passion, and Fields can be human, but terrible?
You don't watch UM games then.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:05 PM ^
Um, what?
Not having your best WR and other players on the team out (offense or defense) doesn't impact the team/QB?
December 20th, 2020 at 5:24 PM ^
It was also revealed that he sprained his right thumb in the 1st quarter yesterday and had it wrapped. But still. his decision making is a head scratcher at times and he holds onto the ball way too long.at times
December 20th, 2020 at 1:05 PM ^
Actually, I think at least some of that was due to inexperienced receivers running the wrong route. But it does raise questions about why OSU didn't have their back-ups better prepared. For the first time in a long time, the OSU passing game looked like crap.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:18 PM ^
Well the WR coach, Brian Hartline, who is responsible for getting the backups up to speed was also out under the COVID contact tracing protocol.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
The past few years OSU has gone ~6 deep with WRs. No spring ball, limited/no summer workouts, no September non-con games to play young players in the second half = inexperienced, young WRs aren't able to gain experience with reps.
Had 2020 been normal circumstances, Jameson Williams and probably 3 of their true freshmen WRs would be better prepared to take the field and take on an increased role as part of the 6-man rotation. As it is, it's primarily been a 2-man receiving corps with Olave & Wilson. Once Olave was listed as unavailable (and his primary backup) I knew it would be trouble for their passing game against a really good secondary in NW.
EDIT: And yes, Hartline being out didn't help with what could have been on-the-spot instruction.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:37 PM ^
You don't give your back-ups many reps with your 1st team QB, unless they pass the eye test in practice, oryou had early season injuries.
If you think that looked like crap, it's because the back-ups ran the wrong adjustments, leaving Fields looking like UM QB.
Timing / Route Discipline is the OSU strength, and it takes more than a week to develop it.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:52 PM ^
Hang on, I have been around here a while. A team missing their presumed starting QB, their best WR, and 7 OL has no excuse for not being outstanding.
And you all think the conference gives OSU a break.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:57 PM ^
Farcically bad. Why bother playing - just let OSU represent the BIG and get rid of the charade
December 20th, 2020 at 1:06 PM ^
Who's fault is that? Is that OSU's fault they have turned into a machine and are winning football games?
I get a crack out of people talking about how boring the playoff is and how they should just fast-forward to Clemson and Alabama each year. How about other teams actually step up and get their shit done?
December 20th, 2020 at 1:37 PM ^
The problem is that they always bend backwards for osu. Look at 1973. Look at when they jumped PSU recently. Look at this year when it should have been indiana in the championship game.
Letting then go to the cfp just build more momentum for osu that they don't already need. This death machine has been built by getting more air time on tv and more press
The cfp is a big boost for a teams future, win or lose.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:49 PM ^
Some fair points here. The death machine has also been built by superior coaching and a culture which has an intensity to this rivalry we’ll never have.
osu still talks about wanting to beat Michigan even though they have for years and years. Michigan beats MSU twice and all of a sudden doesn’t take them seriously anymore. Which leads to losing as a 24.5 point favorites.
December 20th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
So since you want your buddy Jimmy back for an extension of who knows how many years, why doesn't he do something about it?
He was brought here to defeat the "death machine" as you call it, and here we are....
Most of us are unhappy with where the program is, but you seem just fine and contented.
And willing to bitch and snipe at how well OSU is treated, while your hero takes us to a 2-4 season and you want an EXTENSION.
Wayne Duke is dead. The 21-day rule is ridiculously stupid and even HIGH SCHOOLS don't follow that. OSU or not, it should have been changed. And if OSU is being rewarded in general, it is because they have shown elite play over the past decade. I don't like it, but it is true.
Which is why your boy Jimmy was brought here, to bring us to a level of elite play.
It's a shame that it is clearly time for a change, and we are about to see a 3-year extension and people like you are OK with this mediocrity.
December 20th, 2020 at 2:18 PM ^
That, and they've won the vast majority of their games. I would say that's what actually matters, not a media narrative.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:06 PM ^
As was mentioned above it was the CDC that changed the protocols from 14 to 10 days. (plus the 7 day acclimation process- myocarditis checks)
For a conference that wants to "follow the science" it makes sense that this change was made. This is the way it should have been for much of year.
You know that if the CDC changed the protocol from 14 to 17 days the conference would have immediately made the switch. It works both ways.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:08 PM ^
Schluuuuuuuurp.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:11 PM ^
Why keep punishing the Big10 conference? What good does that do?
The new protocols are still more stringent than the SEC and ACC.
How does making things harder on OSU help Michigan? We should have been playing under this lesser standard all season. It would have made life easier on every program.
Kevin Warren has totally screwed this season up for all fourteen teams. He made the Big10 look like a shit-show and these little corrections at the end are still too little to late. However, I see no reason to stick to an unreasonable standard that was erroneously set and makes no sense, just to prove you are in charge.
Just let them play.
December 20th, 2020 at 5:34 PM ^
Exactly. Why make your conference rep in the playoffs play under stricter rules than Alabama and Clemson. And I still think the new 17 day rules is more the=an the 14 days the ACC and SEC require.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:15 PM ^
B1G leadership has been pitiful this whole season.
And now they look desperate to ensure OSU is at full strength.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
good, then they won't have an excuse when they get run off the field.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:33 PM ^
And it’s 17 BUSINESS days too.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:33 PM ^
The BIG10 has been a glaring example of poor leadership. I don't care what anyone says. Twice they went back on their rules and they bungled this whole 2020 mess.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:36 PM ^
The only way OSU wins a natty is to get by both Clemson & Bama...highly unlikely. I'd actually prefer they fairly get everyone as none of the other teams are sitting 21 days. Plus when they get beat they have no excuse. Get ready for 0-3 against Clemson.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:39 PM ^
The Big 10 needs O$U.
$imple as that...
December 20th, 2020 at 1:40 PM ^
Big Ten would have done the same for any conference school.
