5* Nyck Harbor in home visit this Tuesday

Ok friends, last chance for Jim Harbaugh to make a lasting impression with Harbor this Tuesday. This is a huge visit and a player we need. Bellamy will also be with Jim. I’ve said this before, these are the type of players that we have to close on to compete w the bamas and georgias of the world…

I just don’t see how anyone can think an 18 year old, 6’5”, 225 lbs. young man is not going to put on a single pound in a football strength training program. He’s already way bigger than any sprinter I’ve ever seen. It might work running track at that size in HS, but college is different.

He’s going to have to choose one or the other and I think biology is going to decide for him.

Again, that's if he somehow is the only 18 year old freakish athlete playing in a major D1 college football program who doesn't gain a single pound in the strength-training program. That means at best, he MIGHT be able to stay a WR. But he's still 65th in sprinting at his best time. Do you really think he'll can and will stick to limiting his size that much to also be just a good (not great) college sprinter? His millions lie in football. It doesn't seem likely he's going to try to stay at his current size (if that's possible) to stay a position that might not be his best spot to make his future millions, just to be a good college sprinter.

Great athletes understandably dream of being the best at everything. But at some point the reality is, you have to focus on one thing to be the best.

The problem is, these other schools feed his ego just to get him on the football field. It's all BS. And they know it.

"Again, that's if he somehow is the only 18 year old freakish athlete playing in a major D1 college football program who doesn't gain a single pound in the strength-training program."

Players gain weight, players lose weight - his strength program doesn't necessarily mean he gains weight, and it isn't necessarily controlled by the football training staff.

"But he's still 65th in sprinting at his best time."

Which would have been like top 10 among NCAA freshman last year.

"Do you really think he'll can and will stick to limiting his size that much to also be just a good (not great) college sprinter?"

Can? Possibly. Depends on lots of things.
Will? Depends on whether he loves track or football more honestly.

Usain Bolt was 6'5" and 195lbs at 15. He never got any taller, and only 10lbs heavier.

"Great athletes understandably dream of being the best at everything"

No... SOME of them do. When we're talking HS - some of them are just amazing physical talents who aren't particularly driven at all.

Hard for Michigan to compete with Oregon for someone who wants to do track as well.

I also think back over the 3 decades I have been following recruiting and how many of the "have to simultaneously do track" football players (regardless of superhuman measurables) end up being great players in college?

Yes, I have read the hype "bigger than Randy Moss with Tyreek Hill speed," but there also is a reason the top 100 sprinters who all have Tyreek Hill speed (and most outweigh him) don't play football.

You also have to have a football mentality. Not saying Harbour doesn't but he is less a sure thing than most on here assume.

EDIT: Just saw DHughes made similar point earlier, I agree with him...Harbor would be a great pick-up but his recruitment is not what catches us up to the Bama and Georgias. We need to move from success with high 3 star and low 4 star recruits to regularly being on the radar of dozens of high 4 star/ low 5 star types.  Otherwise, you have become Oregon not Bama.

Normally I’d agree about a player ranked like Harbor but he’s kinda an odd case for a 5* where he’d be very nice to have but not a must get imo given his questionable interest in football and him not wanting to play his ideal position

Harbor is a decent player. But idk if he's a must land, if he was more dedicated to football maybe. Harbor clearly favors track over football those guys don't do well at Michigan.  Harbaugh loves kids that love football. Is Harbor that? I don't think so, would I love to land him, yes, is he a must land, no.
