Game Day Weather

Did you know Michigan and Michigan State first started playing each other in 1898?! In 1945 they started to play every year and it was in 1953 that the Paul Bunyan trophy was introduced. Do you have a memorable game or moment from one of these match ups over the years? This is the rivalry that everyone gets in on and so many people come into town for the atmosphere, even if they aren't going to the game. No doubt A2 will be absolutely packed as we'll see a picture perfect weather day! High pressure is helping to keep us dry under sunny skies and temps will be a little above normal, too. You'll still want to bring extra layers since we'll see quite a drop in temperature from the afternoon to the end of the game. And before you forget and then you're alllll bummed out in the stadium because you don't have service and didn't get all synced up and you can't participate - do you have the Michigan Athletics app? If so, make sure to activate "Michigan Lights" before the game, we all know how service is in the stadium, and even downtown with so many people around. Get fired up, it's time to bring Paul home! Let's go blue!

Tailgating

This is one of those games where you can just walk around town and feel the energy! We're going to start off the morning with patchy fog, so if you're headed out early to grab some last minute ingredients or to set up the tent, you may want to give yourself an extra few minutes on the road. Also don't speed - there will be more cops around with so many people coming into town and might as well not ruin the day getting a ticket! It's going to be chilly to start the morning with temps in the mid 30s! Luckily we'll have light winds so there's no need to factor in a wind chill. Fog will burn off quickly as we go through the morning and get in on some sunshine; sunrise time is at about 8am. Winds will be light all morning long. We'll be up to lower 50s with sunshine for lunchtime - perfect weather to fire up the grill! This is a great day to throw a ball or frisbee around in the afternoon, and you'll likely be in the t-shirt for a good portion of it! Low 60s for the high temperature Saturday with light winds out of the SE! We should be in the mid 50s this time of year, so we'll take it! If you're trying to grab food before the game, remember that there will be a TON of people downtown. Traffic will be moving slowly - you definitely aren't doing any speeding now lol - and expect longer lines/waits at the bars and restaurants! Lots of the restaurants have already stocked up on extra food so it's not if you'll get your order, but moreso when, so just be patient. Or plan ahead and just have more at the tailgate! Toward game time we'll fall to around 50 degrees seeing a few clouds. Keep in mind, temps will keep falling throughout the game, so although the tee worked well in the afternoon, you might want to grab that jacket before you walk through the gates!

Kickoff

50 degrees for that kickoff! Since the sun sets shortly after 6:30pm, the 7:30 start will be awesome under the lights! Skies will be mainly clear and we'll have a light wind out of the SE - maybe near 5mph. If you're in early, you'll catch the Michigan football alumni players being recognized, plus see the Coast Guard helo flyover!

Halftime

Near 45 for the halftime show with skies continuing to be mainly clear. Winds will remain very light. Whoever is headed to get hot chocolates and snacks try to catch at least some of the halftime show, it should be pretty neat! The Marching Band is celebrating Latin American music and heritage for Dia de Los Muertos! Get ready to participate in the "Mr. Brightside" light show in the 3rd quarter! Aren't you glad you did that whole syncing thing earlier?!

Post-Game

Are you cold? NOPE - you're hype because we just won the game!! Ok, maybe you're slightly chilly because we're now in the low 40s and you left your coat * somewhere in A2 * with all of the excitement earlier - hint, don't do that haha. Temps will hover near 40 for last call as we begin to see some clouds roll in. Winds will be light, and stay that way overnight. We'll see more and more clouds overnight and they'll stay with us for Sunday before rain develops. Stay safe out there and cheer loud for our guys! LET'S GOOOO!!!

CHRISTINA BURKHART IS THE MORNING METEOROLOGIST FOR ABC IN FLINT, MI. SHE GREW UP IN ANN ARBOR AND ASSOCIATES SATURDAYS WITH MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. GO BLUE!!
