"I said, 'Coach Beilein, I already made up my mind. You don't have to tell me why I should stay here. I'm staying here.' There was some awkward silence as we sat there in his office. But he looked me in my eye, and said, 'Oh, OK, that's great news!' He shook my hand and hugged me."

Michigan is still waiting on DJ Wilson's decision, and it is slightly ominous that there's been one announcement and not the other. Wilson has until midnight to withdraw.

Meanwhile getting Wagner back is a very big deal. Wagner shot 73/66/40 on 24% usage last year and created a ton of shots himself. He needs to improve his defense, obviously. He's still likely to be a high-usage, high-efficiency star who keeps Michigan towards the top end of the Big Ten.

It's not a surprise, but it's still great news!  Wagner could have an All American year (not necessarily first team) if he takes half the leap from year two to year three that he did from year one to year two.

DJ is headed for the draft from everything I've heard. Great to have Moe back and I think both are making the correct decision for themselves.

and have read everything saying he was leaning towards going. However, I was responding to a statement that implied the poster was "in the know", especially when the poster said "everything I have been hearing". That's why I asked him what his possible connections are outside of everything readily available online. Guess I don't know why you would make a statement like that if you are just basing it off of everything most of us MGoPosters already know.

You're welcome. I knew you were just checking. I don't usually post stuff that I know but I figured it was close enough to share. I don't have some crazy insider status or anything just know a guy who knows everything about IU basketball and a lot about Michigan too. DJ supposedly has a first round guarantee from Utah according to the same person who said he was leaving. Which would make sense.

He wasn't going in the first round, so use another year to improve on the weaknesses, get stronger, and showcase his improvement on a pretty big stage. I'm sure he will be a lock for the first round next year, so it will be fun to see his fire and emotion for another year. Glad to have him back!

If they both left I think we would have been a top 40 team I guess but now that Mo is back are we in the top 25? Or on the cusp?  If DJ comes back that would be top 20 probably but every indication I see sounds like he is gone.  Go blue, can't wait to see Mo in action again.

DJ is more athletic and better defensively.  Mo is more polished on offense.

I frankly feel that DJ fits more of a need on our roster, but they are both super valuable so I am glad at least one is staying.

"Coach Beilein was in a hard position, a funny position," said Wagner. "He's the head coach and wants to win games here, but he was calling teams for me, and that was not an easy job. He told me he was going to make me run if I came back because of all the work he had to put into this. That was actually pretty funny. Him and Coach Washington put a lot into this by organizing this for me and getting every opinion about me and D.J. (Wilson).

Its kind of a weird statement to say, " There was some awkward silence as we sat there in his office. But he looked me in the eye, and said, 'Oh, OK, that's great news!'"  It makes it sound like Belien at the very least didn't expect him back and even possibly was hoping he would leave.  Just odd.

I think it makes it sound like Beilein wants Mo Wagner back, and was prepared to both (i) hear Wagner out and (ii) share his opinions with Wagner as to why leaving would be risky.  Instead, Wagner cut straight to the punchline.

In short, it makes it sound like Beilein was pleasantly surprised with the results of a truncated meeting.

This is obviously great news. Sucks Wilson isn't returning, but Wagner should make some natural improvement and will be a great player next year.
