OT: Jets-Preds Game 7 open thread
Ah, "Game Seven"...the two best words in the English language after "breakfast burrito." This has been a positively scintillating series to date, and the winner tonight has to be considered the Cup favorite going forward. Winnipeg carries the hopes and dreams of an entire nation, but it's hard to resist the appeal of a NashVegas vs. Vegas matchup. GAME ON!
for the Jets since the beginning. Winnipeg is a great hockey city and they deserve some success up there after loosing their team once. Also do like the three UM players on the team. Hope now they can beat Vegas and keep it rolling.
this business trip was in January - which is, to say the least, not the ideal time to visit the Canadian Prairie. Good God was it cold.
But I appreciated the city and the passion they had for hockey there - the AHL (Manitoba Moose) game we attended was loud and completely packed. The NHL belongs in Winnipeg/Winterpeg.
Definitely rooting for tje Jets the rest of the way.
Jets draw first blood.
I'm absolutely stunned that one went in.
The puck was on edge so it just snuck throught but I'm with you, stunned! He has to be on the post on that, especially with that angle!
2-0
EDIT: Rinne pulled.
Wow... didn't see this start coming at all. Two really bad goals by Rinne. I'd love to see the scene in Winnipeg right now!
Crazy start. Having spent some time in Winnipeg for work i can attest to the passion of their fans since the return of their team
It's fun as hell to watch, as an outsider. I also love how the organization honors the original Jets, not only the NHL years but their WHA accomplishments as well.
I dig Nashville, and I think it is great that they have a good hockey team given the town. But it is hard for me not to want Winnipeg to win given how small the town is (705,000+).
With that said, the Pancake Pantry is pretty awesome: https://www.thepancakepantry.com/
I'm happy with either team winning.
Nashville's metro is nearly 2 million, so over twice the size of Winnipeg
2-1. Subban on the PP
Nashville gets one back on pp
HUGE goal by Subban! Great one-timer!
When this PA announcer tells us who scored for Nashville, I suddenly feel like I'm at a monster truck rally.
3-1 Winnipeg.
That might be it, folks.
the Nashville schtick is wearing on me. Catfish on the ice, college hockey chants -- maybe I'm a bitter wings fan but that's a lot of Michigan hockey appropriation. Go Jets
and we stole most of what we do from Cornell
Had this discussion in another thread... Nashville is a young franchise just getting established. They don't have the history the Wings have. So while the catfish thing is utterly ridiculous, and a blatant ripoff of the octopus, it is what it is. Damn kids. And yes, a very jealous wings fan. Hoping for a Jets/Lightning finals. Can't stand the preds or the knights.
THe Predators are largely a Michigan product. When GM opened Saturn there, a lot of Michiganders moved to to Nashville and brought hockey culture with them. The whole catfish thing is directly descendant from the Octopus.
Great game though.
Jets sitting deep in their zone. But that penalty is a killer.
Stastny again. 4-1 Jets.
Say goodnight.
Soft goals all night for the Jets. Love it.
Wow... that's about it. I'm close to buying a Dale Hawerchuk retro Jets player-tee right now.
Never seen that celebration before. I would be sorely tempted to help that glove find its seat on the other side of the glass.
That crowd in the building and on the streets in Winnipeg on Saturday night is going to be insane!
In Atlanta they had the shittiest ownership, shittiest uniforms, shittiest AHL affiliation, shittiest lack of Michigan players, and just overall the shittiest luck of any team in the NHL.
Now all of that has done a 180 and it’s no fun at all...they are four wins over an expansion team from playing for the Stanley Cup.
The NHL’s due diligence when scoping out the Atlanta Spirit (who bought the team from Ted Turner) was laughable. Once the check cleared they stopped caring altogether. Quite a few of us are still bitter about it.
it was the Chicago Wolves ... which I thought was considered one of the BEST AHL franchises?!?!? What was wrong w/ it from the Atlanta POV?
Don Waddell was sufficiently responsible, as well...he was great at drafting players who were very good at the AHL level but for whatever reason were not able to take it up another notch to the big league. You don’t see that with teams like Pittsburgh, who are always able to get players from their AHL affiliate to play at a high level when called up. Detroit gets good output from its K-Zoo call-ups regularly, too...because they’re ready to play. The guys on the Wolves played like they couldn’t wait to get back to Chicago when they got called up to Atlanta.
If you’re a Wolves fan it was a great affiliation...Chevy ran the team the way he wanted, Waddell was seemingly happy to let him do it, and the ownership didn’t give a damn because all they were interested in was owning the arena and the Hawks. The Thrashers weren’t even a stepchild, they were just afterbirth.
