Rumor Debunked: Marist Basketball will not hire Patrick Beilein as Head Coach
I pur rumor because I'm not sure how reliable this source is, but if true congrats to Coach Beilein! Awesome to see him rise in the ranks and get his first D1 job after his great year at LeMoyne this year. He follows in his dad's footsteps, going from LeMoyne to his first D1 job at a small school in NY.

Good for him! Although he has a tough job ahead of him. #320 kenpom team that won only a handful of games this year. If anyone can do it, it's a Beilein!

Patrick Beilein to succeed his father, John Beilein, as the head coach at the University of Michigan. Coach Beilein the senior retires after leading the Wolverines to 15 straight NCAA tournament appearances, 5 Final Fours, and 2 National Championships.....

I wonder if this is the best he can do? He's already turned around two (small) schools. Still a step up though.

Since when do we have to make sense in order to MGoRespond? You would eliminate half the MGoPoints awarded daily. Lighten up.

I've spent some time in Poughkeepsie. Strangely enough, from my experience this statement could be made in absolute seriousness or with total sarcasm.

He will have plenty opportunity to pick his feet in Poughkeepsie.

Well, he is an owl, so I think that between diet and habitat, the last time would have been fairly recently. I guess the challenge is having to do it at night for Mr. Owl. Then again, if he's near an urban / suburban area, I guess it could be done under the streetlights.
I need someone to make a video of Gene Hackman and Gene Wilder yelling...preferably at each other...through the magic of editing.
I know one is retired and the other is dead, but come on YouTube people, make this happen.

Same path his pops took, Beilein went from Le Moyne to Canisius, another MAAC school before moving on to Richmond and so forth. If Patrick can find some success for Marist it should set him up well for a mid-major position.

he can find the next great Marist player since......Rik Smits I guess?

It was the move of the outgoing Marist coach, Mike Maker, from Williams to Marist that helped prompt Duncan Robinson’s transfer to Michigan. On a related note, Robinson’s historical performance in National Semifinal games is strong: 30 points and 6 rebounds as a freshman: https://www.ncaa.com/game/basketball-men/d3/2014/03/21/williams-amherst

Brendan Quinn is reporting that this isn't happening. Said he "confirmed" that the rumor is untrue. Based on his recent run of articles, I'm guessing he asked John directly.
Disappointing for Patrick, but thanks for the heads up.
Maybe he's got something else in the pipeline.
What does that even mean? That he flies in and out every day for games and practices?
Probably just means he has a summer house in NY.
If he were hired at Marist...he would be replacing Mike Maker, who was the coach at Williams that decided NOT to take Duncan Robinson with him when he made the move. Interesting how these all come full circle...
wouldn't have followed him. Why leave Williams College for Marist? Williams gives complete need based financial aid, so most athletes can actually basically go for free. Plus Makar told Beilein about him.
to illinois with him. Duncan was never going to go to Marist.
But given who his dad is combined with his success, I would think that Patrick Beilein would be able to get some nibbles from something higher profile than Marist.
I mean look at how other sons have leveraged their famous coaching dad's profile to accelerate their careers. I'm sure Beilein Sr. is against it, because that is who he is, but it is just the nature of the business.
