Michigan Stadium Spotify playlist
September 20th, 2017 at 8:34 PM ^
I'm not sure there is a playlist I'd like to listen to less.
September 21st, 2017 at 8:48 AM ^
That's one garbage playlist of overplayed, trite bullshit power anthems that I got bored of listening to sometime about 15 years ago or so.
How is it humanly possible to create a playlist that both students and bluehairs (or soon to be a bluehair like me) think is shit? That takes some work.

This should be the only music played in Michigan Stadium.

I have to hand it to South Carolina, the field entrance to "Also Spach Zorathruta" and playing "Sandstorm" on the opening kickoff is awesome.

As the father of a MMB member, I wholeheartedly agree!

Is there a way to storm this thing to request that they just let the band play?
September 20th, 2017 at 9:12 PM ^
You will never make everyone happy, it is impossible. This is the ultimate lose/lose. Some people want all band, some all music, some rap/hip-hip, some current pop, some classic rock, some a combination of all, some nothing.
Most students like current music adding to the experience, most old blues long for 1960 when the band and only the band played after every first down.
The music in the stadium debate is an endless one, with no solution, because everyone wants their own personal music taste exaclty repilicated.
September 20th, 2017 at 9:22 PM ^
I don't want my own personal music taste. I want to feel like I'm a college football game listening to a college marching band. I will say it took some time and age to appreciate what made attending college football games my favorite experience in sports but with age it becomes more clear every time I hear AC/DC in Michigan stadium. It's generic and when programs used to do it right it was anything but generic. Now, we can all take a highway to hell and Oh Oh Oh Oh to Seven Nation Army togehter I guess.

Maybe if their soundtrack gives you a concussion it would add to the experience?

I love hiphop, rap, pop, and rock music, but at something as special as a Michigan game, I think that only the band should play. You can go to a minor league basketball game if you want to hear piped in music.

watching the 40somethings around me not know Mr. Brightside.
Seriously? I'm 52 and know the Killers.
The ACDC stuff is very stale.
I'd trade it all for more band however.
September 20th, 2017 at 8:44 PM ^
What's this obsession with this Mr. Brightside thing over the past month? I'm definitely not 40, I buy and listen to a lot of music, and I still have absolutely no freaking clue what this song is.
September 20th, 2017 at 8:58 PM ^
Did you live under rock in 2004?
September 21st, 2017 at 9:42 AM ^
I'm responding to Bando's question about Mr. Brightside but didn't want it buried under wake replies.
I'm not in love with Mr. Brightside, it's certainly not even in my top 100, but I have to admit that it IS catchy. It seems to straddle the line between quirky alternative, brittish pop and arnthem rock. It's got some fast paced (understandable) lyrics, a good beat, and it's about common themes of betrayal & jealousy.
Anyone who was between 10 and 30 in 2004 probably heard it sporadically. It's been sung in UK soccer stadioums, and the wake video went viral a few years ago.
I think it all adds up.
I hope they keep playing it, if if lessens the threat that I'll have to hear Sweet Caroline or Thunderstruck for 10thousandth time it will be worth it.

I was never a huge fan of Mr Brightside. While it's not an "arena" song, Jenny Was a Friend of Mine is a much better song.

Love the synth in 'Jenny was a friend of mine'!

It's an awesome song! I'd rather the marching band just played, though.

My thougths regarding a Big House playlist.
Can we please return to a college atmosphere and eliminate piped in music and let the band play more?!?!? Please, please, please

And my thoughts regarding your incendiary hot take is that your incendiary hot take is dumb.
The idea that "game day atmosphere" in the mind of the Athletic Department is a Spotify playlist courtesy of Special K... Good lawd.

Wait, so are you calling his thoughts dumb or admitting that your thoughts on his thoughts are dumb? Personally, I think the latter would be far more amusing.
Incidentally, "Don't Fear The Reaper" (especially since that's more or less what the defense is, so there's a poetry here) would be a better third down song than what they do now. Just my two cents there.

I was in the band - i don't ever recall Don't Fear the Reaper played by the band or Smoke on the Water played by the Fanfare Group. Anyone else recall this or is Mi Sooner talking about the Oklahoma Band (who only plays one song; Boomer Sooner, ad nauseum)?
