EDSBS: A Michigan Man Comes Home

A fitting end for Ol' Dave Brandon, as imagined by ActionCookbook.

That was awesome. If only we were actually sadistic enough to force Brandon upon Buttgers.

This is funny, but it's interesting - if you listen to their new podcast, it's so obvious that there isn't even a tiny kernel of truth in this.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:02 PM ^
I realized that we may be saying the same thing. It's so obvious that nostalgia is deeply important in the Harbaugh family when you listen to Jim and his dad talk on their new podcast: https://www.podcastone.com/attack-each-day-the-harbaugh-podcast
September 20th, 2017 at 2:09 PM ^
It is a great line, but I agree that turning his back on nostalgia would be totally counter to his character. The very fact that he ended up at Michigan tells us that his past is important to him.
September 20th, 2017 at 2:22 PM ^
That's what I was trying to say, poorly I'll admit. I thought the line was pretty funny but not at all accurate, especially after listening to a few episodes of the podcast.
September 20th, 2017 at 7:26 PM ^
the current owners.

Translation: there is no way Harbaugh would burn down his house, literally or figuratively, is service of only moving forward in life and banishing nostalgia. We know from the Harbaugh family podcast and many other sources that he is very much a family man, and nostalgic and sentimental about Ann Arbor and the other important places in Harbaugh's past.

Can't be the only one who threw that string of characters into Google Translate. Story checks out.
September 20th, 2017 at 2:17 PM ^
LOL. I assumed I might be the only one, Bando. Should have known better.

"If it ain't broke, break it" - David Brandon
September 20th, 2017 at 1:19 PM ^
his line of prebroken toys probably wasn't a great idea. But really, who could predict that, or that the students didn't want general admission seating. There is no way to predict how consumers will react to things.

In my current role at work I interact with a counterpart who reminds me of the Dave Brandon in this article. The guy at work constantly uses the saying "if you're not making waves, you're dead in the water" to justify all of his really, really, really bad ideas.
September 20th, 2017 at 5:56 PM ^
As much as the guy ruined Michigan football, the Toys R Us bankruptcy is happening because private equity funds did a leveraged buyout a few years ago and saddled the company with tons of debt that it can't service.
If you look at the disclosures, Toys R Us is actually making a ton of money! Like, a lot of it! The company will be fine (probably) and Dave Brandon will not get fired (he'll probably even get a bonus!).
That said, Dave Brandon is bad and he should feel bad for how he ran the athletic department.

Can somebody please find the three minutes or so I just spent reading that? I'd like them back please.
Anybody think writing comedy (like Oponent Watch) is easy should read this. It's clearly not for everyone.
Edit: Well after reading the other comments apparently everybody but me liked the damn thing. Must be an age thing cause I found it really stupid. Oh well......
September 20th, 2017 at 12:57 PM ^
I don't think it's an age thing. The Rutgers twist was humorous but the rest was cringe-worthy.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
The author is an avowed Cincinnati and osu fan.
September 20th, 2017 at 12:59 PM ^
typically i hate these kind of pieces, too, but i thought this was actually hilarious.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:14 PM ^
People just dislike Dave Brandon so much that they ignore the Rob Schneider level of comedy and laugh anyway.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:40 PM ^
and I found it humorous.
....so it's just you.
September 20th, 2017 at 7:27 PM ^
I was thinking about fire trucks.
September 20th, 2017 at 2:16 PM ^
I completely agree. Not everything is meant to be a joke, especially when we're talking about three hard working guys who have all achieved excellence in their respective fields.
In fact, I think we should lay off the jokes about Mr. Brandon altogether. For years, he made sure the water in the opponent's locker room was perfect. Who else is going to do that?
September 20th, 2017 at 2:20 PM ^
Hmmm.... I'm not sure your ID is accurate.... Dave.

I got some chuckles out of the EDSBS article (my favorite of theirs is still the Harbaugh Christmas Rope letter to Pete Carrol after the Pats/Seahawks SB), but I also agree with you that Opponent Watch is one of the best things I read in any given football week.

so damn funny.
yet sad.
yet so damn funny.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:05 PM ^
EDSBS gets less funny each time I read it.
This article rates -100 funnies.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:18 PM ^
now, time to let Brandon fade into nothingness, like the old dot on black and white TVs.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:24 PM ^
find this piece funny but just thought meh.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:25 PM ^
FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! What a great read!
September 20th, 2017 at 1:28 PM ^
wanted this to be a lot funnier than it was, honestly.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:30 PM ^
I'll give it a participation ribbon.
September 20th, 2017 at 1:50 PM ^
Thought this Brandon satire was much more on point:

September 20th, 2017 at 1:55 PM ^
See, and now I thought that one was lame (though the "In the Doll House" line was good). To each their own, I guess.
September 20th, 2017 at 2:08 PM ^
This one is so much funnier than the EDSBS one. I had no idea there was a Big Ten humor website, this is incredible. This article about Wilton Speight makes me want to laugh and cry:

This one's definitely better. So many of the Brandon takes/jokes out there the last two days are super lazy. This one is anything but. Kudos. Good find. Also, I'm really bummed about Toys R Us...
September 20th, 2017 at 1:51 PM ^
I thought it was funny, though I am a little embarrassed that I did having read the comments on this thread.
