Former or Ex?
I find it interesting that the A2.com refers to Cissoko as a "former player" (DetNews.com says the same):
http://www.annarbor.com/news/former-u-of-m-football-charged-in-attempte…
and in a earlier article refers to Charles Woodson as an "ex-Michigan football star":
http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/benefit-dinner-will-feature-…
Maybe i'm nit picking, but it seems that those references should be reversed. "Ex" sounds like you left on bad terms, former sounds like you used to play there and moved on to bigger and better things.
I go with the U.S. Marines theory, once a Marine, always a Marine. The only Marines i've seen referred to as ex-Marines are those dishonorably discharged.
Thoughts?

I like your avatar.

Seeing that I generally get as many responses about that avatar as my content, I might need to change that avatar. Or maybe I need to improve my content! Of course I once put a comparable photo in the content and the MGoModerators deleted the content.

Now you probably have an idea of how difficult it is to be an attractive female in the work place.

I don't know about that. What I have found is that I can manipulate this entire board with my avatar...wait a second; you're right, I do understand what it's like to be a beautiful woman in the work place.

What you need to do is post a larger size right below this comment.
to the gold and silver medalists of the 100 meter dash in the Miss Universe pageant. Ladies, celebratory kissing is not discouraged. Um, please?

I will go back and reverse every point I ever gave you.

What exactly is the background on your avatar? I've always wondered that.
Comments like this make me think I could make a fortune on this board by just having models pose in Michigan gear. yes no?

As a former (or veteran) Marine, I think you are correct. Ex-Marines are guys that have received BCD's (Bad Conduct Discharges) or Dishonorable Discharges. I like Veteran Marine but former is ok and fits better with football. So Woodson is a former Wolverine while Cissoko is an Ex-Wolverine.

Since when do honorable Marines shoot innocent kittens point blank? Maybe next election I will vote for Obama...

ain't innocent. Trust me. You don't want me to go into details.

No innocent kittens were harmed in the making of my avatar.

What about just after the making of your avatar?

The kitten was the ultimately responsible for its own demise...

was an insurgent kitten. Now an ex-insurgent kitten, thanks to our Devil Dogs.
The Marine Corp loves innocent kittens.
That was great, I wish I could give more +'s. LOL, people are gophering in the office now, looking at me.
I think thats an Israeli soldier. From what I've heard most cities in the middle east are teeming with cats.
That's not a US Marine, I believe that is an Israeli Defense Force soldier
I recognized that the guy in the photo was not a U.S. Marine, but I liked the photo sequence and the setup. I had a good laugh at them. His uniform does not match current ones in use by the U.S.

You're reading way to much into a second tier news organization. There probably is a difference between the terms, but the assumption that the writer/editor knew what they were doing when using the terms might be questionable.

The chances are good they know what they are talking about.

I think you are reading way to much into this. They both mean once associated with.

I think I'm going to start calling all of my ex girlfriends my former girlfriends. It has a nice ring to it.
If you're done with them, can I have their numbers? I'm starving for a date, because another thread told me that MGoBlog shouldn't be my girlfriend anymore.

During the recent Olympics, I frequently heard the phrase "Former Olympic Gold Medalist" being used to refer to someone who had retired from the sport (but still had their medal). Obviously, unless it gets stripped away for some reason, they'll be a gold medalist forever. The erroneous use of this phrase irritated the shit out of me.
