OT: Adidas passes Jordan as the #2 brand in U.S.
Adidas has passed the Jordan brand as the second-most popular sneaker in the United States, market tracking company NPD Group announced Monday.
"I've never seen a brand in the sneaker industry grow this fast," NPD sports industry analyst Matt Powell said.

Nike/Jordan might want to cut back on the price gouging. Most people just want a pair of shoes. They don't need them to come in a $200 jewel-encrusted, individually numbered, Championship Rule the Skies Exclusive Limited Edition for the Month of May (TM) briefcase.

Shocked that Big Baller Brand isn't #1

Misleading story and thread title. About what I would expect from a Darren Rovell story. Adidas passed Jordan for sneaker sales in dollars. That isn't necessarily related to popularity or performance. I had always associated Jordan Brand with more high-end sneakers. For comparison, McDonald's having more sales in dollars doesn't necessarily make it more popular or better than In-N-Out.
The story here for me is that adidas had fallen so far behind that it actually got passed by Jordan in the first place. Jordan is a specialty brand of Nike. I never would have expected that it was even ahead of adidas.

As someone very in touch with the sneaker community, addidas is the new "hot" thing. Partially because of Yeezy, but more importantly because of Boost. Boost is the new foam that addidas has been usuing since Kanye's first sneaker with them, and it is impressive. Boosts, yeezy, and anything related are all the rage at launch dates, while many but the more iconic Jordan retros aren't moving off of shelves. It doesn't help that the last 3-4 core Jordan main brand shoes have not hit with this group either.
The Jordan Brand/Nike has been price gouging for too long, while promising unseen quality improvements, and its catching up to them.
The Boost sole is incredible, and as a former "sneaker head", I have never tried on a pair of atheltic shoes that was more comfortable than a pair of Ultra Boosts.

for Adidas design and fit. But that's certainly not the case around Tallahassee, where I live, where anyone associated with soccer--a whole lot of people--is in Adidas gear, and Nike is considered a little passe. And although I've lived with the idea for two years, a basketball player on a football jersey still looks dumb to me.

Adidas sizes are inconsistent. It was a lottery trying to pick the right size when buying online. Sometimes a large was medium and sometimes it was xxl, I buy a medium and its xl, I buy a small and its a small. I could never get the the right size and I couldnt get it at M Den cause I live down south :/

Did not have a sizing problem with Adidas. But then with Adidas I didn't buy any of their "performance" material - just cotton T shirts and sweatshirts.
I have a Jordan flex fit hat and a nike flex fit hat. Both in L/XL. The Jordan fits just right and the Nike is a little loose. Have 2 Jordan Dri Fit (or whatever the hell they call that fabric) T shirts. One is an XL that fits good to a tad loose and an XXL that fits the damn same.

Doesn't it share this with Nike? I always assumed that Nike and Jordan shared technology, and the main difference was in design. I would be interested to hear more from any sneakerheads here.

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that kids today never saw Jordan on the court.

I'm sure it does...that and the price.
But mainly, MJ isn't an idol to these kids. Like you said, they never saw him on the court.
Also, they're running out of ways to be cutting edge and creative with these shoes, IMO. Everything just looks like different shoes pieced together. Meanwhile when Jordan's were at their peak, they were always something fresh and new.
What are kids wearing these days? Kobe's? LeBron's? There will never be "Jordan level" shoes, but anyone know what's popular? Chuck Taylor All-Stars? (joking)
