I don't (and won't) use the app, so a mobile version would be nice for the tiled library.
I think the formatting and layout of the site / discussion threads is fine, although the ability to easily quote another poster in thread replies might be nice.
And maybe a direct message feature would be good. For flirting. And hate mail.

I hate other boards where people quote someone's entire five paragraph post just to rebuttal one line at the very end. Makes everything cluttered and unreadable.

It works well on some sites, but not all.
Being able to have a "favorites" list would be nice too.

or just better nested comments altogether so that something you reply to doesn't end up a trillion pages away from what you are responding to

I use the full site on my phone, and it works well. I just want the site to work. I don't care about a "modern" layout, whatever that means. If it means it'll look like Eleven Warriors, as many have said... no thanks. I think that site layout is a disaster.

I get it, but I really don't want that. I like having the full site layout available when I want it. Whenever sites make a "mobile" version, or responsive design, whatever, there are inevitable cuts made to accommodate. I can think of a few sites that I won't even load on my phone for that reason.

I'm a fan of the proposed changes, especially to the comments section. The site currently looks fresh outta 2005.

1995 is being kind.

Does anyone have any screen caps of the blog from when we played Texas in the Rose Bowl? That's when I first started reading and I can barely remember what it looked like originally.
I prefer the way the blog is laid out currently, especially with the entire front page in chronological order. If it goes the 11Warriors route as previously mentioned where the highest quality content filters to the top, I'm afraid I might accidently miss out on some content.

From what I understand the Latest UFR/Recruiting/Preview article will be laid our horizontally at the top of the home page below the banner. Below that all articles will be in chronological order vertically.

Waybackmachine has January 2005 covered. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you'll be at January 1st. Brian decided not to kill himself after the game. Excellent! CLICK HERE

No need for screen caps. Just go right back to the source for a trip down memory lane.

Oh hell ya. Back in the simpler times of desktop/laptop computers only..

this is still how I picture MGo.

I like it fine but it needs to be touched up. I appreciate that they're working to get it right.

This site to be better today than yesterday, and better tomorrow than today.

Changing the layout doesn't change the essence of what makes mgoblog great:
Posbangs, clever OTs, incessant negging of redundant posts, Ace's UFRs, Ace's Unverified Voracities, Ace's season previews, Ace's Monday post game prose...
The essence will remain.
September 12th, 2017 at 1:55 PM ^
Do we have to have Brian's essence?
September 12th, 2017 at 1:59 PM ^
Who's Brian?
September 12th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
Having now brought this up, I bet someone tries to market it at the next MGoMeetup in Ann Arbor, possibly even lobbying Arbor Brewing to produce a bottle of it just for kicks. A very limited run, mind you. VERY limited. One bottle, in fact.

If anything the articles will be easier to access without scrolling down or going onto the next page. Plus the site should be more flexible. I'm reading at work all the time, and usually have my window as small as possible to not draw as much attention to my slacking off. The website conforming to the size of the window will make using this site even easier (for me at least)!
And hopefully the comments section is improved by auto refreshing in real time.

Sadly for the rest of us Darker Blue has made this plea to Brian every year for the past 9 years and every year Brian listens and shuts down the long awaited upgrade.
I suspect this year will be no exception. Thanks a lot Darker Blue.

Damn we were so close this time too.

Maybe someone would rather target Darker Blue than Speight? Pretty please? It's all his fault.
September 12th, 2017 at 1:44 PM ^
Why buy one when you can buy two for twice the price!?!
There's always next year, friends.

Or at least share the same features. Tiled articles up top, then listed below.

I still don't understand why that layout is more modern than what we have going.
September 12th, 2017 at 2:50 PM ^
Go to SBNation (I hate their redesign) and resize with your internet window. Things shift/move with the size change. Modernization is mostly to for adaptability, ease of use, mobile phone use, etc.
Otherwise, the diaries, mgoboard boxes are out of date. The column headers, and gradient bars seperating things are out of date. Look at the "Make a Donation" button. That is from the 90s! None of that is a big deal though, imo.
