OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Pop Culture References
Simple premise today for our (potentially last of this OT season? Mods? Was there a "Meta, OT" post that I missed?) car discussion: What's your favorite Pop-Culture Car Reference?
Do you, like Slowhand, get off on '57 Chevys?
If you're a Nelly fan are you Team 'Slade or Team Range Rover?
Was the Bad Boys' 911 the greatest move Car Casting ever? Or was Iron Man's R8 too perfect? Did you (do you?) Still want a General Lee? Or did you used to have a Trans Am and make people call you Bandit?
What's your favorite pop-culture car tie in and why?
come with it?
1970 GTO Convertible
Silver with black interior. 4 speed, Rally II wheels (subsequently swapped out for a set of Cragar SS's) and had a 455 HO (first year Pontiac put the 455's in the GTOs).
Blew the engine street racing on Woodward and learned everything I wanted to know about engines and more swapping that out and dropping a RamAir III in it's place.
Fun car.

I'd be happy with a sentient camaro that wants to be my BFF/wingman.
That was a stretch of deductive reasoning.
I wonder if some MGoLinguists are so pedantic that any potential partner would find them unbearable. Cannot have kids if you don't get laid. Problem solved.
Porsche: there is no substitute.
Or for Ferrari Daytona fans:
And then the Aston DB5
Are you the U-Boat Commander?

Forever the db5. There is no question in my mind this is the most beautiful car ever made
Marge's road rage episode is a personal favorite.
Notwithstanding that the film launched the acting & directing careers of Richard Dreyfus, Harrison Ford and George Lucas the film's main stars were probably these....
Didn't hurt Ron Howard's career either.
No you're absolutely right....It sure didn't

but a repeat viewing of American Graffiti always reminds me just how underated and awesome a '58 is.
And can you imagine any modern automaker making such significant styling changes every year for so many years in a row?
Chevy? That's a jerk off man. This here is pure pussy.
I always thought the customized 71 Lincoln Continental used in "The Car" movie was total badass. Boy would I be hard pressed not to buy one of these if they were available...
Customize?
I'd hit it
Points to whomever gets this one right. Though admittedly not too obscure.
I see what you did there.. +1
If we're going purely by casting, the car from Uncle Buck could not have fit the character better.
I wouldn't mind being the windshield of this 1941 Desoto Custom. I wanted to post the video but it's probably NSFMSRK.

Definitely Eleanor

I'll take the sYc Camaro from the second Fast and Furious movie. A real one.
Or Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds.
The delorian was all types of cool in the BTTF movies.
As for perfectly cast roles for a car, it's hard to beat the Ecto-1 from the original Ghost Busters. Never thought I'd think a Hurst was cool, but that was a cool car.
August 9th, 2016 at 10:00 AM ^
The original Ecto-1 was an Ambulance. In this remake they used a Herse as far as I know.
August 9th, 2016 at 12:34 PM ^
it is an Ambulance/Hearse combo.

The original running man video?

With apologies to Bullitt's Mustang, and believe me I am a fan of any Mustang, the best movie car in the world ever is:
But Biff's Ford ("Marty, he's in a 46 Ford, we're in a DeLorean, he'd rip through us like tin foil!") is way up there too.
August 9th, 2016 at 10:29 AM ^
Of course, we can't just limit this to movies. How about the musical world, too?
They arrested me and they put me in jail
And they called my pappy to throw my bail
And he said, "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot... Rod... Lincoln."
August 9th, 2016 at 11:02 AM ^
I've always wondered if you need a License to Ill in order to get 6 girlies in a lincoln continental

Pontiac Firebird...that can talk

But if I want a sentient car, I'm going for 'Bee any day.
